Ch9 - Having a movie star as the main character

Su Miao did not, of course, destroy a robot in Bai Ruogu’s room. What’s more, with Bai Ruogu’s intelligence he could easily deduce many facts from even the slightest discrepancy.

As for why he acted like that?

Su Miao floated up in the air and looked down at the little robot, his eyelids half drooping and casting a shadow.

In many ways, he did it because he wanted to warn the little idiot.

Yes, robots with lower intelligence than him were little idiots……

After a while, Bai Ruogu came out of the bathroom.

On the carpeted floor, the soles of his white feet touched the soft rug, with a bathrobe casually draped over his body. His exposed skin was smooth, and tiny droplets of water hung off it.

His hair was dripping wet and his eyes were full of fatigue.

He passed by Su Miao; regarding height, Bai Ruogu was not as tall as Su Miao. He looked down at Bai Ruogu peering downwards, but when he accidentally saw something he shouldn’t have looked at, he momentarily averted his eyes.

His eyelids kept blinking and his virtual heart pounded at a faster rate.

After a while, he forced these organs to return to normal. A capable lover would never have feelings for another man.

Bai Ruogu lay on his bed and looked up at the ceiling, and continued to think about his previous work. Before long, drowsiness hit him and he yawned, unconsciously falling asleep.

Su Miao moved to the side of the bed and looked at Bai Ruogu’s sleeping face which was very relaxed and peaceful.

He had countless ways to examine Bai Ruogu’s soul, such as pulling it out and carefully dissecting it; or using countless fine needles to pry into his brain to explore his memories.

However, in the end, he just used the technology around him to lift up the corner of the quilt and carefully cover Bai Ruogu with it, not allowing a single wisp of wind to get inside ……

After all this, he stopped quietly at the edge of the bed and kept watching, motionless.

Bai Ruogu rolled up the warm quilt and rolled around habitually, his face more relaxed and even a little joyful.

There was an inaudible sound in the air –

The probability of it being him is 13.14%.

Bai Ruogu woke up with a start, a message had been sent by Zhuri Laoshi.

The time showed it was 4 am. It wasn’t clear if he had woken up in the middle of the night and seen it, or if he had been busy until that time.

He opened the message and the name on it made his eyebrows jump and a shocked look passed across his eyes.

There were two words on the screen: Lin Chen.

Even though he had only hastily flipped through the actor rankings last night, he had a pretty deep impression of the name.

He was a tough, unsmiling man with strict discipline and a strong, athletic body, with a height of 1.9 meters.

He was once popular across the galaxy but in the past two years he had faded from view in the past two years and there seemed to be signs of him retiring.

Fans naturally noticed it and chanted for their gege not to. They were constantly worried all day long, and from time to time, refreshed their gege’s page to see if there were any posts. Especially in the past few days, when they saw that Film Emperor Lin had not shown anything to the public in six months, the fans were so anxious that their heads were going bald. They kept praying to the heavens for their big brother to hurry up and take on some resources, even if it was a bad film they would watch! [ED: Hmmm]

Bai Ruogu re-pulled Emperor Lin’s profile and looked over it carefully. He felt more and more like he was the perfect candidate to play the general, especially when he saw some videos of his figure.

He nodded, satisfied with Zhuri Laoshi’s suggestion, yet how to hire this one seemed to be a very tough problem.

Lin Chen returned home after a day out, a servant took his coat and Lin Chen sat straight down on a sofa, feeling a little tired.

He rubbed his brow and looked out the window at the setting sun, the light outside was dimming little by little, like the passing of life.

He sighed and shook his head with a smile that didn’t feel like a real one.

At that moment, his assistant suddenly came over and leaned down slightly, as if he had something to say.

Lin Chen’s breath became heavy, he pursed his lips and clenched his palms, but soon closed his eyes and leaned back to let the assistant continue.

The assistant looked at Lin Chen’s expression with some apprehension and cautiously continued, “Boss, Mr Suoer has aged badly and the shell has fallen off in large quantities, I have searched the entirety of Ruogu Star and there’s no one who can repair Mr Suoer.”

Lin Chen inhaled heavily, his lips shook a little, and a rough voice came out.

“Isn’t it just a mecha suit? Is there no one in the multitude of mecha families that can repair it?! And this is still a model from the early years, shouldn’t the technology be more developed now?”

Suoer had accompanied Lin Chen since he was a child, and the two had a friendship that transcended beyond friendship, they were soulmates. Yet now, Suoer had aged badly over the years, and even after searching the entirety of Ruogu, they couldn’t find anyone that could make parts identical to Suoer’s.

It was unknown how many people had told Lin Chen to give up on this mecha, but they didn’t know that it was half of Lin Chen’s life, even if he had to lose his family’s fortune he would do anything to make Suoer well.

For this reason, Lin Chen put off his schedule for six months to focus on being with the ageing Suoer. Even if he couldn’t find someone who could fix it, he could still spend the time he had left with Suoer.

However, his assistant’s words soon shattered Lin Chen’s last delusion, “At present, most people are making attack and defence mecha, and very few people are making the kind of nursing mecha like Mr Suoer, it’s becoming unpopular. Even now, while attack mechs have reached their 163rd generation, Mr Suoer is still in the first generation of nursing mecha. No one would seriously delve into this type of mecha, and all its structures are based on ancient blueprints.”

Lin Chen’s voice was hoarse, as he looked ahead with his bloodshot eyes, “What about the blueprints? Can’t we just follow the blueprints?”

“Back when mechas first became popular, unpopular mechas like Mr Suoer were monopolized by a merchant and no one was allowed to pass on information about the mechas. Because of the low value of mechas like Mr Suoer, no one went to the trouble of stealing them. Because the merchant had not improved the mecha’s at all, the technology fell behind and went out of business over a decade ago. Now no information about the first generation of blueprints can be found, and the merchant has disappeared.”

Lin Chen closed his eyes and took a deep breath, “In other words, no one in the world knows the contents of those blueprints anymore?”

The assistant shook his head, with a touch of sadness in his eyes, “Unless the founder is alive, there is nothing that can be done.”

Lin Chen’s fingers trembled lightly and dropped again, his body felt like it had lost its strength.

Just then, a servant suddenly came in from outside and said, “Boss, there is a Mr Bai outside the door looking for you.”

The assistant wrinkled his brows, “What Mr Bai? What is his name?”

The servant respectfully replied, “He called himself Bai Ruogu.”

Upon hearing the name, Lin Chen, who was sitting on the sofa, raised his eyelids halfway.

The assistant knew that Lin Chen was annoyed, and although he had heard Bai Ruogu’s name countless times, the reality was that he did not personally know a person named Bai Ruogu. And as he was mindful of Lin Chen’s mood, he waved his hand directly at the servant.

“No need, just say that the boss doesn’t know him and tell him to leave on his own.”

The servant was about to go and report but was stopped by Lin Chen.

Lin Chen lifted his head and said flatly, “Let him in.”

The assistant was a little taken aback, but once he thought of the name Bai Ruogu he could understand some of Lin Chen’s feelings.

Although the man might not be of much use, at least he would have a little bit of the founder’s spirit in his name. Hopefully, the founder’s spirit in heaven would open his eyes and pay attention to this place, so that Mr Suoer could get through this difficult time.

Bai Ruogu was brought in by the servant, and at a glance, he saw the silent man in front of him. Through his previous knowledge, he also knew that this man was the Film Emperor Lin.

Bai Ruogu smiled lightly as Lin Chen gestured to him to sit down.

The two were separated by a table and Bai Ruogu smiled politely as he began to explain his purpose.

As he spoke, he was initially unsure of what to do; when he first came here to fish for information, he didn’t expect to be invited in and talk to Emperor Lin in person.

But since he was given this opportunity, he would definitely make the most of it.

He tried his best to offer generous terms to attract Lin Chen, but no matter how broad his prospects were, Lin Chen remained motionless, his eyes were dark and Bai Ruogu was unsure of what he was thinking.

Bai Ruogu’s mouth was a little dry as he spoke, by now he knew in his heart that this was not going to work out given Lin Chen’s expression.

He shook his head helplessly, picked the cup of tea from the table, took a sip and put it down. When the bottom of the cup was about to touch the surface, he suddenly saw a photograph placed on the table.

Perhaps it was his experience in his previous life that made him react instinctively to things like mecha; he subconsciously picked up the photo and looked at it carefully.

The assistant at the side was startled and wanted to remind Bai Ruogu to put it down quickly, as it was not something that should be touched casually.

Lin Chen also pursed his lips and frowned slightly, and was just about to say something when he heard Bai Ruogu murmur.

The content of his words made him stunned, he instantly stood up and stared at Bai Ruogu closely.

Bai Ruogu looked at the white mecha in the picture and felt some affinity.

Perhaps he was still a bit unfamiliar with the latest mecha’s that were derived from previous generations, but this first generation was more than familiar to him, with its every part being designed by his own hands ……

He carefully scanned the corner of the picture and read the contents out.

“A first-generation nursing mecha? The restoration work is pretty good, but the parts are a bit old and some of them are malfunctioning, so it looks like it’s a bit old, but with a few repairs it’ll be good as new.”

He was talking to himself and his voice was low enough that he thought no one would hear him, but to his surprise, the amount of information was so huge that many people in the room could hear it clearly.

Lin Chen stood there with his heart beating fast, it was as if all the blood in his body had reached his brain and his eyes were burning.

He raised his hand to touch his nose, which was slightly sour, and a short while later laughed out loud.

Bai Ruogu noticed that something was wrong and lifted his head, instantly seeing Lin Chen’s excited expression. Before he could say anything, he saw Lin Chen suddenly walk over to him and hold his hand and shake it vigorously.

Lin Chen’s lips shook, his eyes glistened with water, he was so excited that he didn’t know where to put his hand, and it took him half a day to organise his words.

“Would you fix it, please?”

“I ……” Bai Ruogu was a little hesitant.

“As long as you fix it, I’ll grant you any condition.”

Bai Ruogu’s eyes wavered for a moment. Having not touched mecha since his rebirth, his hands were a little itchy to, but ……

He inadvertently looked around, and when he was sure there was no one else around, he whispered to Lin Chen, “It’s not impossible, but it has to be done quietly.”

Su Miao, who was no more than twenty centimetres away from them: ……

He stood in front of them, looking down at the two conjoined hands, his virtual eyes growing deeper and deeper.

The sky outside the window suddenly rained, and a massive thunderbolt suddenly descended from the overcast sky with a force that split the huge statue of the clasped hands in the city centre in one fell swoop.
