Yan Xueshan had already heard of President Galsworthy von Felix before.

The first time he heard about him was from his adoptive father, who knew that there was a very powerful melee warrior, known as the Golden Star.

Then, when he went to college, the Melee Master Instructor used the combat videos of the young President when he was still in front line service as teaching materials.

At that time, Yan Xueshan never thought that he would also become a teaching material one day.

However, he no longer had the opportunity to watch the President’s mecha operations in action.

The President was getting older. Even though he was strict with himself and was still an Admiral, Galsworthy suffered from chronic illness and was judged by the doctors to be unable to operate his mecha any longer.

So twenty years ago, he retired from the position as a Divisional Sergeant and switched to command. Seven years later he became the most important person in the Federation.

There were only a few occasions when Yan Xueshan met the President. Of course they were all on official business occasions.

The first time was when he was approved to become Artemis’ exclusive Master Sergeant. At the time,  several snipers sergeants were candidates to drive Artemis, and in the end, he was chosen based on test data.

When Artemis was officially launched for the first time, the President made a special trip to inspect the scene. He applauded Yan Xueshan on the viewing platform, called him over and encouraged him.

Later, Yan Xueshan heard that it was actually the President himself who appointed him as the exclusive pilot of Artemis.

Then, he and Arthur had already become partners.

It was also because of the good performance of the two of them that they could be further promoted.

Looking back, Arthur was very nervous and said to him fearfully, “I might lose the election.”

Yan Xueshan still hadn’t quite understood. “No, you are fully capable of being promoted to S-rank Sergeant. I don’t get what you are worried about.”

Arthur hesitated to speak for a moment before saying vaguely, “You don’t know, but there is someone above who doesn’t like me. It’s not enough for me to be better than others. I have to be much, much better than them before I can get a promotion. “

Promotions and other things were completely beyond the scope of Yan Xueshan’s understanding, so after thinking for a while he walked up to Arthur who was sitting on a bench with his head down and said directly, “I still think you don’t have to worry. You are indeed very, very good.”

Arthur raised his head and looked at him.

Yan Xueshan coldly said, “Instead of being depressed, it’s better to go to training with me. I will accompany you. I can’t guarantee that you will be approved and get smoothly promoted to an S-class Mecha Master Sergeant, but you are still my partner. We work well together, and unless you die in battle, I won’t change partners for any other reason. Let’s go to the training room.”

After he finished speaking, Yan Xueshan didn’t care what Arthur’s response was, he just up and left. After taking two steps, he heard Arthur footsteps following him, at first hurriedly, then calmly.

The battlefield was such a time-critical place, there was no time for you to be dejected. Your comrade might die in one second, but you need to continue fighting in the next second.

Afterwards, Arthur was successfully promoted to S-class Sergeant and got the Zhulong. The two of them continued to work together, performed military exploits and were sent several letters of commendation by the President.

One day, the Military Department suddenly notified them that they would use their images as war heroes for publicity.

Yan Xueshan only agreed for them to publicize the photos of Artemis, as for himself it was a matter of respect.

Arthur followed his example, and he didn’t like to show his face very much during his service. However, he wasn’t as secretive as Yan Xueshan and occasionally would accept a few interviews alone.

After the final battle he and Arthur came to the Federation Capital and received awards and medals from the President.

In retrospect, how didn’t he notice that the President looked a lot like Arthur at that time? Maybe it was because he was really indifferent to such things.

However, up to this point, Yan Xueshan believed his contact with the President was limited to business matters, without any communication about personal issues.

The vague impression was that of a majestic, wise, bearded old man with a large and sturdy body. He always had a smile on his face – a smile not unlike Arthur’s – you wouldn’t find a trace of hostility in it, but rather find him very approachable.

His gaze wasn’t sharp at all, but soft with a bit of a smile. Yet, when he looked at you, you felt like he could see through you.

Yan Xueshan had a hunch back then that if this retired former first Division Sergeant of the Federation were to board a mecha again for a serious fight with him, he wasn’t 100% sure that he would win.

This meeting still gave Yan Xueshan this feeling.

Galsworthy von Felix was dressed in a military uniform. Since he was both a Federal Marshal and the President, he preferred to wear the uniform. There were no other decorations on his clothes except for the shoulder insignia, and even this military uniform seemed to not be brand new, just clean and tidy.

He first inspected various places in the base, and met with Admiral Arthur, who was in charge, and several other officers.

Finally, he shook Yan Xueshan’s hand with both his hands and said kindly and cordially, “It’s good to see you again, Mr. Yan.”

“I hope to see you at dinner later. It will be a separate gathering, just between us, and you won’t be allowed to escape like last time.”

Yan Xueshan wasn’t nervous but Arthur was a little nervous.

Yan Xueshan asked him, “What’s wrong?”

Arthur said, “No matter what he says to you, you don’t need to take it to heart. It’s me that will marry you so you don’t have to care about his opinion.”

Yan Xueshan could see that this father and son duo didn’t have a good relationship.

Every family has its problems.

During the six years they worked together, Arthur often wrote letters to his mother at his desk, but he never saw him write a letter to his father, let alone mention him even once. As a result Yan Xueshan always thought that Arthur was a child from a single-parent family.

At the dinner table, Yan Xueshan sat on the side with Arthur. He himself was very calm, eating in silence and following table manners.

The president asked, “I haven’t heard about the progress of the upcoming wedding. Do you want to be engaged first? Earlier Arthur said that it was because the base wasn’t stable yet, but now it should be time to put the wedding on the agenda.”

Yan Xueshan said, “Arthur said that he would arrange it, and I will only be responsible for paying half of the money so I don’t know the rest.”

Arthur’s expression was ugly. His father naturally didn’t care about him and had only been looking at Yan Xueshan. As if only Yan Xueshan sat opposite him, he quite enthusiastically spoke. “I heard that you piloted Artemis again to participate in the battle.”

Yan Xueshan nodded and apologized without regret. “Sorry, I don’t have this qualification now. I will submit the application afterwards.”

The President said, “It’s okay. Even if you’re retired, you’re still a hero of the Federation. I wouldn’t let you be harshly criticized for this small matter.”

Earlier, Yan Xueshan had suspected that Arthur had proposed to him with ulterior motives, and that there might be a push from the Presidential father behind it. Hearing this, he couldn’t help cheering up, thinking, as expected, maybe the next sentence will be the President asking him to return to his previous job.

With a smile on his face, as if he had really become an ordinary old man, the President said with interest, “Speaking of retirement, I also heard that you bought a farm after you retired from the military, right? I learned from Arthur’s mother that he also seems to be helping you with work.”
