Chapter 40 – My Son is a Phoenix Man (final part)

Jiang Shan quickly wiped away his tears. “Mum, let’s go back? Yue Er and Little Moon are waiting for us!” After speaking, he took Li Su’s arm affectionately and walked out.

Li Su reacted. “Were you following me? Child Shan, you are brave! You are going to heaven!” She twisted one of Jiang Shan’s ears.

Even though Jiang Shan normally had the appearance of a confident elite, he was now just a son.

“Aiyah, mum. You’re misunderstanding. I didn’t come just to follow you. I was worried about you. Really! It hurts, mum. Let go. It hurts!”

Li Su let him go. Jiang Shan thought about the way Wei Yue Er was to Li Su and took Li Su’s arm, a little embarrassed. “Mum, in the future, our family will have good lives, okay?”

Li Su was a little surprised and a little moved, perhaps because this sentiment was coming from her son. Although Jiang Shan was filial, the mother and son did not have a close relationship. However, Wei Yue Er often took her arm to act coquettishly.

“Okay!” Li Su patted Jiang Shan’s arm. Neither of them mentioned Mei Li. They had a tacit understanding: acting like this person had never appeared in their lives.

LI Su and Jiang Shan returned home. As soon as they opened the door, they heard Little Moon crying. Jiang Shan and Li Su were both distressed. How long had Little Moon been crying? Her voice was a little hoarse already.

“What’s the matter? What is wrong with Little Moon? Why are you crying so hard?” Li Su asked anxiously while she changed her shoes.

Jiang Shan didn’t even change his shoes. He rushed in.

Wei Yue Er came out of the room holding Little Moon when she heard their voices. “Mum, husband, you’re back!”

Jiang Shan hurriedly took Little Moon from Wei Yue Er and started coaxing his daughter.

Wei Yue Er was aggrieved, crying. Little Moon had always been well-behaved and rarely cried like this. Wei Yue Er was a little overwhelmed. “I don’t know what’s wrong. She has been crying since this morning. I’ve been to the hospital and the doctor said she was okay. I brought her back and fed her some milk and let her sleep for a while. When she woke up, she started crying again. I don’t know what to do.”

Li Su looked at Wei Yue Er’s aggrieved appearance and didn’t know whether she should laugh or cry. She saw Little Moon, who was now in Jiang Shan’s arms, gradually stop crying.

“Okay, okay, don’t cry. Little Moon just misses her dad. Look.” LI Su said with a smile as she sat next to Wei Yue Er.

Wei Yue Er looked up and saw that Little Moon had really stopped crying. She was even more aggrieved and cried sadly.

“Mum!” Wei Yue Er cried and fell into Li Su’s arms. Wasn’t she Little Moon’s mother? She didn’t even know why her daughter had been crying. Why was her daughter so close to her husband?!

Li Su couldn’t help the crying Wei Yue Er, and just hugged her. Jiang Shan hugged Little Moon and sat down helplessly. He gently held Wei Yue Er. “Okay, don’t cry. Next time I won’t leave you two for so long. No matter where we go, our family will be together.”

Wei Yue Er cried more fiercely after hearing that, but this time it was tears of joy.

Mother Wei, who had gone out to answer the phone just now, was now standing at the balcony door crying.

Time flew and five years passed by in a flash.

In the end, Jiang Shan relied on his own efforts to buy a place for Li Su in this city. It was a small place, 80 m2, but it was enough for one person.

Li Su also moved out when Little Moon was in kindergarten, two years ago, and lived a free and simple life.

One day, Li Su got up early in the morning and was wondering what she should do. Should she play mahjong or go dancing? Suddenly, someone banged on the door.

As soon as Li Su opened the door, Little Moon dragged a pink Hello Kitty suitcase in and waved goodbye to the driver.

Li Su rolled her eyes. Seems like she wouldn’t be playing mahjong or dancing.

“What’s wrong, Little Moon? Are you running away from home again? Who was it this time, your mother or your brother?” Li Su took the suitcase from her granddaughter and held her granddaughter’s hand. They entered the house.

“Hmph. It was mum, dad, and younger brother,” Little Moon said loudly.

Li Su sat on the sofa with her granddaughter and poured her a glass of milk. She handed it over. “How did they provoke you? Tell grandma. Grandma will vent your anger for you.”

“Younger brother is always crying, so mum has to take care of him. Mum hasn’t told me she loves me for three days. As for dad… I went to the company to find dad, but I saw dad talking with a beautiful older sister, and he ignored me. They don’t love me anymore. I’m angry!” After Little Moon finished speaking, she held the glass and started drinking her milk.

Li Su frowned, then relaxed. Was her son getting into trouble outside again? No, her informant had not told her! Over the years, Jiang Shan went home on time every day for the first half of the year. He never stayed overnight outside. There was nothing the little stalker, Little Moon, would not know. Jiang Shan shouldn’t have had a chance. Li Su smiled. “Mum didn’t mean it. Your younger brother is still young and needs someone to take care of him. Your mother forgot to say she loved you because she is dealing with him. Our Little Moon is so cute. Who wouldn’t love our Little Moon?! You! Look, your younger brother hasn’t even gone to kindergarten. How pitiful. Will Little Moon fuss over her younger brother?”

Little Moon had always been very proud of going to kindergarten. She had always felt that it was a pity her younger brother had never attended kindergarten. She nodded. “Grandma is right. I won’t fuss over my younger brother.”

“As for your dad, hm… It’s too much. How about punishing your dad by not giving him dinner tonight?” Li Su smiled. She didn’t believe that Jiang Shan would act irresponsibly in front of Little Moon. It was impossible!

Little Moon put down the cup and shook her head. “No, dad has worked so hard. How can I not give him food?”

“Little Moon loves dad so much? Then what do we do? How do we punish dad?” Li Su asked with a smile.

Little Moon tilted her head, thinking hard. She couldn’t think of anything.

“How about this? Your father likes to eat vegetables the most. During dinner, Little Moon should eat all the vegetables and not give any to your dad.” Little Moon was a bit of a picky eater and didn’t like to eat vegetables. Jiang Shan pretended that he liked vegetables and rushed to eat them with Little Moon every time in order to coax her to eat more vegetables. Therefore, Little Moon always thought that her father’s favourite food was vegetables.

Little Moon’s eyes lit up. “Okay!”

“All right. Go rinse your mouth first. Grandma will wash the cups and then take you to the supermarket later. Our Little Moon has been wronged, so grandma needs to make up for it.” Both her grandchildren were treasures and she needed to take care of their hearts.

“Thanks, grandma! Grandma is the best!” Little Moon smiled widely.

“Not just grandma. Your mother, father, grandma, and grandpa all love Little Moon!” Li Su touched Little Moon’s pigtails. “Did your father do your hair for you today?”

“Hmph, they also love younger brother. Only grandma is different. Grandma loves me the most!” Little Moon said frantically.

Li Su smiled. This child still remembered when Yue Er had given birth to her second child. Jiang Shan had gone to see Yue Er, and Wei Ding Shan and Mother Wei went to see the child who had just been born! Li Su had been the only one who kept holding Little Moon at that time.

“Silly child, we all love you. We love you the most. It’s just that your younger brother is young and needs everyone’s care and attention. When your little brother grows up, he will protect you and look after you,” said Li Su as she touched Little Moon’s face.

Little Moon pouted and stopped talking. In fact, she also knew that her parents loved her, but she was still unhappy watching everyone around her younger brother! Bad dad! He knew that she wasn’t happy, but he didn’t coax her himself. He just talked to others!

“Okay, go rinse your mouth!”

At this moment, the front door opened. Jiang Shan came in, panting. “Mum, is Little Moon with you?” As soon as he finished speaking, he saw Little Moon next to Li Su and immediately felt relieved.

“Dad!” As soon as Little Moon saw her dad, she was happy and forgot that she had just complained about him. She rushed over.

Jiang Shan hugged Little Moon. “You are too courageous. Why did you just run away?! Dad was busy at that time and really didn’t see you. How could you run away without saying anything? You scared dad to death! Don’t do this next time, okay?”

Jiang Shan had been terrified. When Little Moon came to the company, he was in the middle of explaining things to his subordinates. After he finished speaking, someone had told him that Little Moon had just come by and they didn’t know why she ran off. Jiang Shan knew that Little Moon was a little upset ever since Yue Er gave birth to a son. Little Moon had thought that the adults didn’t love her. She had never liked him talking to other women, so she must have misunderstood.

Although he had known that Little Moon had been accompanied by a driver and that the only place Little Moon would go when she ran away from home was either the Wei’s or his mother’s, Jiang Shan was still worried. He had hurriedly left the company and went out to look for Little Moon.

Little Moon saw that her father looked very worried, so she put her arms around her father’s neck and smiled.

When Jiang Shan saw her expression, he knew that Little Moon hadn’t paid attention to his words. Still, he couldn’t bear to say anything. He could only complain to Li Su. “Mum, you are used to it. She has become more courageous and runs away from home at every turn. You have to take care of her!”

“Me? That’s your girl. If you try, you can manage it yourself!” Li Su said angrily. “Don’t you have any shame saying that I am used to it? Who is used to her being this way?”

Jiang Shan hugged Little Moon and smirked. “Well, mum, I’ll take Little Moon to the company. For dinner, mother-in-law said that she bought hairy crabs and that we should eat together. Don’t forget. I will pick you up later.”

Li Su patted his forehead. “if you didn’t mention it, I would have forgotten. Today is your mother-in-law’s birthday.”

Jiang Shan took Little Moon and left. Li Su looked at the time. Shen then went to see Yue Er and Yang Yang!

Before she entered, Li Su heard a deafening cry. Yang Yang was really loud. Little Moon was much more well-behaved when she was younger!

When Li Su entered, Wei Yue Er greeted her with a wry smile. “Mum!”

“Why are you losing weight again? Is Yang Yang making trouble?” Li Su asked, distressed.

“Mm, Yang Yang is too noisy! I just went to the washroom, and he cried like this.” Wei Yue Er was very helpless. She didn’t have time to wipe her hands. She hugged Yang Yang, otherwise he would yell the roof off.

Li Su went over to take Yang Yang. But, as soon as she took Yang Yang away from Wei Yue Er, he cried louder. After trying several times, Li Su had no choice but to give up.

Wei Yue Er also wanted to cry. “I don’t know what’s wrong with this child. He’s fine with me, but when others hold him, he cries. I haven’t properly talked to Little Moon for three days! Perhaps it was because Little Moon was so well-behaved that Wei Yue Er had thought all children were well-behaved, so she chose to have a second child. She hadn’t expected to give birth to a very clingy demon!

Little Moon was so good when she was a child. Anyone could hold her and she rarely cried. She almost didn’t have to be a mother. Now, Yang Yang only stuck to her. She has to hurry and go to the washroom otherwise he will cry! It’s so hard for her! She was crying inside!

Li Su and Mother Wu looked helpless after hearing the news. If there were other methods, they would help Wei Yue Er. But, Yang Yang only stuck to Wei Yue Er.

“The two kids are really interesting. Little Moon likes dad the most and Yang Yang likes mum the most. Each person gets one,” Mother Wei said with a helpless smile.

At this time, Yang Yang lay in his mother’s arms as quiet as an angel. He was unable to understand the amount of trouble he just caused.

Wei Yue Er had forgotten the unhappiness she felt just now. She was now full of joy as she looked down at her precious darling.

Li Su and Mother Wei glanced at each other and smiled helplessly.

In the company, Jiang Shan was working on documents. From time to time, he looked over at Little Moon, who was writing and drawing on the table next to him. Suddenly, he received a call from Wei Ding Shan, asking him to go to the office.

Jiang Shan thought this was a little strange. He put down the phone and went to Wei Ding Shan’s office, carrying Little Moon.

Wei Ding Shan had a serious expression, but after seeing Little Moon, it softened. “Little Moon is here. Why didn’t you say something earlier? Come and play with grandpa. Grandpa has a lot of toys here. Come, grandpa will take you!”

Little Moon often came here to play, so she jumped into the area behind to play.

“Dad, what’s the matter?” Jiang Shan asked with a frown.

“There are two things I think you need to know,” Wei Ding Shan said with a sigh.

“What is it, dad?” Jiang Shan became nervous.

“The first thing is that… Mei Li is dead.” Wei Ding Shan stared at Jiang Shan.

“Dead? How come?” Jiang Shan was surprised. Hadn’t she been sentenced to 15 years? How long has it been? How was she dead?

“I’m not very clear on the specifics. It seems that the prison she was in had a fire. In the ensuing panic, she was pushed and she fell down. She hit her temple and died on the spot,” said Wei Ding Shan. “Her parents did not come forward. They refused to collect her body. Lawyer Yang was notified and he told me. I arranged for her to be buried in a nearby cemetery.”

Jiang Shan was silent for a while before he said, “That’s great. Dad, I have already paid back what I owed her. You had no need to do what you did. It was done out of goodwill.”

Wei Ding Shan nodded. “I didn’t want to tell you about this, but I was afraid that you would blame me if you found out about it in the future. Actually, it doesn’t matter if you blame me. I was afraid you would be angry with Yue Er. Jiang Shan, you and I should understand my feelings as fathers. As long as Yue Er is happy, I will do anything! If there is retribution, then I will handle it.”

“Dad, what are you talking about?! You didn’t do anything wrong here. If I were in your shoes, I would have done the same thing for Little Moon. No, I would have been more ruthless! You didn’t do anything wrong,” Jiang Shan said firmly.

Wei Ding Shan was very satisfied with Jiang Shan’s attitude. “Actually, my retribution did come.”

“Dad!” Jiang Shan said anxiously.

“This is the second thing I wanted to tell you. Here, take a look at this document.” Wei Ding Shan handed over a document.

Jiang Shan looked at it and stood up abruptly. “Liver cancer! How?!”

Wei Ding Shan smiled indifferently. “Don’t make a fuss. Your mother-in-law and Wei Yue don’t know. I have only told you. I plan to hand the company over to you, Jiang Shan. I don’t ask for anything else but for you to treat my daughter well.”

“Dad!” Jiang Shan had mixed feelings. “Dad!”

“Dad, what’s the matter?” Little Moon suddenly ran out, eyes wide. She looked at them, ignorant.

Jiang Shan’s heart that had been racing suddenly calmed. He walked over and hugged Little Moon. He then said, seriously, “Dad, I promise you that I will treat Yue Er well and take good care of our children. I will be filial to you and mother-in-law! I promise!”

Wei Ding Shan smiled with satisfaction.

The news that Wei Ding Shan had liver cancer was only kept from Wei Yue Er. She was too busy dealing with Yang Yang, that little demon. Mother Wei accompanied Wei Ding Shan to seek medical treatment. Li Su mulled it over, then moved back in to help them take care of Little Moon. She helped ferry Little Moon to and from school and helped Wei Yue Er out.

Jiang Shan was busy dealing with the company’s affairs.

Fortunately, Wei Ding Shan’s liver cancer was discovered early. After surgery, it had improved a lot. However, his body was still in poor condition and he needed time to recuperate. Jiang Shan was left to deal with the company.

Wei Yue Er finally learned of Wei Ding Shan’s condition and she blamed herself. She cried sadly and Jiang Shan hugged her, distressed. “It’s okay. Isn’t dad okay now? Don’t cry!”

“Really, dad is all right? Stop crying, you are a mum. Why are you still crying so much! When Little Moon and Yang Yang look back, they’ll laugh at you.” Wei Ding Shan looked at his daughter’s self-blame and couldn’t help but tear up.

As soon as Wei Ding Shan finished speaking, Yang Yang burst into deafening cries in Li Su’s arms. While he cried, he threw his hands in the direction of Wei Yue Er.

Li Su found it difficult to hold him, so she handed him to Wei Yue Er. Yang Yang put his arms around Wei Yue Er’s neck and stretched out to kiss Wei Yue Er all over her face while calling out ‘mother’. Wei Yue Er accepted her son’s kisses and her sadness disappeared.

Jiang Shan stared at Yang Yang, disgusted. “Dirty! This is my wife! You can kiss your own wife!”

Little Moon rushed over as he was muttering and called out, “Dad!”

“Ah! It’s dad’s Little Moon! Did you miss dad?” Jiang Shan hugged Little Moon. Not to be outdone, Little Moon kissed Jiang Shan’s face.

Li Su, Mother Wei, and Wei Ding Shan watched them and laughed happily.

Li Su smiled happily. She looked back at the past few years calmly. Jiang Shan was loyal to his family, filial to his parents, loves his children, and shows no signs of blackening.

Li Su realised her task had been completed, but she had no idea when she would die in this life. However, she didn’t worry about it. Life was beautiful. It was time to enjoy it!
