Cloudside Café

Chapter 19.2

When they came back from the supermarket, they saw that Yun Qian had fried two eggs for them.

They didn’t have any time to eat lunch after such a busy day. Jiang Ying rubbed her stomach when she smelled noodle soup. She couldn’t resist the hunger anymore.

Yun Xian saw that Jiang Ying took big bites. The eggs were gone in two or three bites. He asked her, “Do you want any more eggs?”

Jiang Ying shook her head. “No, it’s fine… Why don’t you give me a bite of yours?”

Yun Xian smiled and put the entire fried egg that he had not touched into her bowl. “It’s for you.”

Yun Xian was attentive about these small things. He always remembered what other people liked. He had been an older brother for a long time, and he habitually let others have their way.

However, Jiang Ying did not feel comfortable seeing Yun Xian like this, especially after he became closer with his family today.

She hoped that Yun Xian could also act like a spoiled child and not be so sensible and caring forever.

Yun Xian saw that Jiang Ying was lost in her thoughts and pinched her earlobe with a smile. “What are you thinking? Eat the noodles quickly.”

After deciding on only one bite, Jiang Ying bit off a small piece of fried egg and chewed it happily. She returned the rest to Yun Xian. “Your baby brother fried it for you. Why don’t you try it? Xiao Qian’s egg is much better than mine.”

Yun Xian said, “He can cook.”

Jiang Ying also took a few pieces of stewed beef from her bowl and gave it to Yun Xian. She patted him on the head. “Today, our previous older brother has also worked hard, so eat some more meat.”

Yun Xian was surprised. He raised his hand and lightly flicked Jiang Ying’s forehead with his index and middle finger. He smiled and asked, “Are you coaxing a child?”

Jiang Ying shook her head and replied, “I am coaxing my boyfriend.”

After dinner, Yun Xian cleared the table and Jiang Ying wandered around the living room.

Almost every family had a wall that was filled with their children’s certificates growing up. Whenever someone came to visit, that wall would always be a tourist attraction that everyone checked out.

Jiang Ying’s family also had a wall with a few awards. The highest award she had received was only a class “three-good” student award1.

At this moment, Jiang Ying was facing a whole cabinet of certificates and trophies. It was only then that she understood the history of a top student’s achievements.

She randomly took out a few to have a closer look. There was second place award in the national mathematics competition, first place award in a physics competition, and a second place trophy in the Morningstar Sci-Fi Essay Competition… The top two shelves were Yun Xian’s, and the lower one was Yun Qian’s. There were trophies from when they were young to adulthood, and they had one for almost every subject. In addition, there are also a large number of municipal level “three-good” student awards and outstanding class representatives. Everything was arranged by year.

Jiang Ying could not help it and sighed, “It’s too frightening.”

She turned to the man who was cleaning the table in the restaurant and sincerely said, “Your genes are too strong.”

Yun Xian glanced at the cupboard without a trace of emotion. “There’s still more. The award for first place in the kindergarten origami competition was also put away by my mother.”

Jiang Ying carefully put the certificate in her hands back to the original position. She secretly put her hands together and respectfully bowed when Yun Xian was not looking.

“Jiang Ying.”

Jiang Ying hurried over after hearing Yun Xian call her from the kitchen.

Yun Xian shook the water off his hands. He picked a cherry and fed it to Jiang Ying. He handed the plate to her. “Bring the cherries to Yun Xian and ask him if he wants water or something else to drink.”

The cherry was sweet and sour. Yun Xian has already removed the core. She only ate the fruit itself. It was so good.

“Okay.” Jiang Ying took the plate and couldn’t resist wanting another one.

Yun Xian swatted her hand and said, “I have another plate for you. Don’t steal a third year student’s food.”

Jiang Ying giggled and brought the cherries to Yun Qian.

The door was not closed tightly. Jiang Ying went to the door and looked in. She saw Yun Qian sitting on the chair and staring blankly.

She knocked on the door, and the boy looked at her.

Jiang Ying put the plate of cherries on the table: “Your brother bought cherries. Try it. It’s very sweet.”

Yun Qian politely thanked her, “Thank you, sister.”

Jiang Ying asked another question, “Well, are you thirsty? Do you want water or something to drink?”

“It’s all right. I’m not thirsty.”

Jiang Ying nodded. “Okay, then I guess you can go back to reading.”

She walked to the door. She hesitated for a moment, but then turned back and said to Yun Qian, “When I was small, I fell off my bike once. My left arm was almost dislocated, and I had a lot of scratches. I went home crying to find my mother. Guess what she did?”

Yun Qian shook his head in surprise. “Comfort you?”

“She beat me up and took me to the hospital while she scolded me.”

Yun Qian was completely shocked.

Jiang Ying’s eyes curved and she said with a smile, “Isn’t it strange? She told me later that she was scared and worried to death. She didn’t know what to do. She was so anxious that she gave me a beating.”

“Sometimes parents just don’t know the right way to express themselves. Scolding you might not really mean that they blame you, but loving you doesn’t need to be doubted.”

Jiang Ying didn’t know how much Yun Qian took in what she said at this moment. She smiled and left one last word, “Don’t think too much, just do your own thing without worrying.” Then, she went out and gently closed the door.
