Ch10 - This lingering ghost is courting her own death!

Qi Chen watched on helplessly as the group of originally ferocious-looking ghosts suddenly displayed a panic-stricken appearance. They scattered like hornets without a nest, dispersing amid confusion and disappearing without a trace through the walls.

But obviously, their movements weren’t as fast as that flashing knife.

Within the deep night, dozens of cold and narrow flashes of light tore up the ghostly atmosphere entangled in the room. For each flash of light, one ghost was pierced between the eyebrows.

For a moment, Qi Chen only felt dazed. The flurry of bright flashes and dark shadows made it difficult for him to keep his eyes open. He heard that old lady give a pitiful wail before the bowl in her hands clattered to the ground. One could tell based on the sound that it’d shattered.

Amid the chaos, he only saw a dark golden knife flash before his eyes like a meteor, raising a gust of wind by his forehead. It nailed itself to the wall, less than half a meter away from his head with a thud, making a humming sound.

The sound of the long knife piercing the ground seemed to be a conclusion. It straightforwardly put an end to the mad dancing ghosts in the room, not at all messily.

The first thing he saw after blinking away the after-image of the knife, was a lock of short hair on his forehead that’d been chopped off.

That patch of jet black floated down lifelessly from his head to the ground. A gust of wind blew through the screen door, sweeping it away and leaving not a strand behind.

Qi Chen: “……”

But compared to him who just lost a couple of hairs, the other non-human things in the room were much more tragic.

Besides the completely shattered bowl, the ruthless old lady was currently slumped on the ground. The two hands that had fed Qi Chen medicine were pinned to the ground with two daggers. The sharp blades pierced through the back of her hands. More than half was buried in the ground. The remaining half reflected a deeply cold gleam.

Qi Chen heard something continuously hissing and spouting cold air near her. Only upon careful observation did he discover the skin around the place that was pierced by the knife appeared as if it was being burned. It was currently slowly turning black, even emitting a burnt smell.

As for that group of wild ghosts who had looked at Qi Chen like yellow weasels looking at chicken…..

Currently, each one had a knife between their eyebrows and were pinned along a whole wall. They fluttered in the wind like flags when the United Nations held meetings,

Qi Chen still couldn’t move his limbs. He turned his head slowly with difficulty, appreciating the surroundings. Unfortunately with a “crack——“, he had twisted his neck.

At this stiff, immovable angle, he happened to see the knife that wasn’t even half a meter away from his head.

It was different from the daggers pinned everywhere. This knife was longer and more exquisite.

This knife was narrow and thin. The single blade was slightly curved with a beast tooth-shaped edge, ferocious yet retaining a sense of beauty. From the blade to the guard the craftsmanship was flawless. The only regretful thing was the hilt of the knife was incomplete and lacking toward the end.

Qi Chen looked at this life-saving knife. His chin which persistently didn’t drop the whole night finally dropped with a clatter.

WTF wasn’t this Director Dong’s treasured Long Ya?! Why would it appear here in such a ferocious and flashy way?!

Qi Chen finally began to think that this knife that was nailed to the ground seemed like it wasn’t here to conclude this nonsensical night. It was obviously about to draw everything in a more nonsensical direction.

Long Ya had already been thrown out….. was it possible the one that came to save him was Director Dong?!

Because he didn’t have to wait for the familiar heavy set footsteps of a middle-aged man but saw that Long Ya suddenly began to emit a golden light, numerous intercrossing rays of light and shadows enveloped the entire knife.

Qi Chen only felt the ground he was currently laying on suddenly tremble. The knife nailed to the ground appeared to have been pulled out. It continuously grew longer…. Until it exceeded its original length of one foot six inches, this transformation still didn’t show any signs of stopping.

The golden light surrounding the blade became increasingly dazzling until you couldn’t see the original appearance of the knife.

Qi Chen stared, dumbstruck as the mass of golden light became taller and taller….. it was practically going straight to two meters!

No matter how you looked at it this didn’t seem to be the length of a normal knife!!!

As expected, that mass of golden light didn’t transform into the shape of a knife but had the outline of a human form. The light gradually grew fainter until it disappeared altogether…..

After the golden light faded, there was no trace of Long Ya that was originally nailed to the ground. Replacing it was a tall man.

Qi Chen: “……………………………………………………………….……………”

He stared at that man and opened his mouth. And opened his mouth. And opened his mouth again. Yet still, not a word came out.

“Yo ———-” That man looked down at him from above, his tone, as usual, carrying an air of asking to be beaten up, “Are you struggling to sneeze or struggling to cough?”

With this stab, Qi Chen finally found his own voice and said in shock: “Executive Leader Long?! Why, why are you here?!”

Long Ya frowned and humphed with an expression of disdain: “This stupid…… Did you not see where I came from just now?!”

Qi Chen was somewhat absent-minded: “……. I saw, I just wanted to confirm.”

Long Ya gave a cold laugh: “Heh! You look so confused now. When you took a file and a welding torch to my body a couple of days ago weren’t you pretty calm and composed?”

“……” Qi Chen, “Because I didn’t see it change into a living person.”

“Now that you’ve seen it change into a living person and also finished being stupid, can you please move your front and back paws and get up. Addicted to acting paralyzed ah?! Let’s go!” Long Ya glanced at him from beneath his eyelids, only missing the action of prodding him impatiently with his foot.

Qi Chen gave a hollow laugh: “I twisted my neck and can’t move.”

Long Ya: “……..”

Qi Chen: “I’ve probably been drugged by something, my limbs currently have no sensation.”

Long Ya: “…….”

Qi Chen maintained that position with a helpless expression, staring unblinkingly at Long Ya.

Long Ya said irritably: “How come you can get into such trouble every day?! Succeeded in giving yourself an occasional holiday zuzong?” After speaking, he bore a ‘begrudgingly reluctant, loosening respect and degrading honor’ stepmother’s face. He bent over and directly carried Qi Chen over his shoulder, exuding the vivid aura of a ferocious thief.

In the instant he was thrown over his shoulder, Qi Chen’s head drooped from inertia. He heard a ‘crack’. The twisted neck had been fixed so easily with a drop of the head.

Evidently, Long Ya wasn’t only a ferocious thief he probably also had the abilities of a wandering barefoot doctor.

Long-daye probably felt that carrying a living person was already too strenuous. Even if he had a free hand, he was still too lazy to lift his hand to open the door.

Hanging upside down on his shoulder, Qi Chen only saw Long Ya’s left hand strike with a crisp ‘pa’ sound. The entire wall of daggers began to buzz. Qi Chen hadn’t even reacted when he felt the entire building quake twice then collapse with a rumble.

Qi Chen: “……..” He’d seen lazy before, but he hadn’t seen anyone lazy enough to commit such a sin.

This building collapsed quite neatly, like the peeling of tangerine skin. The walls and roof collapsed on all four sides. In short, it didn’t injure either Long Ya or Qi Chen, who was being carried, in the building at all.

Now that the clear moonlight shone down unimpeded, Qi Chen looked at the collapsed building. There wasn’t a bit of its original appearance he had once seen from outside the courtyard. The surface of the wall that had toppled on the ground was covered in blackened burn marks. The roof beam of the building also had the appearance of having been burned. The weeds at the foot of the wall were almost as tall as a human.

Obviously that old lady and her vanished conspirator had transformed some abandoned burnt building into the small two-storied building Qi Chen saw.

Because his visual angle was a little taller than normal and his field of vision broader, Qi Chen saw a figure he hadn’t noticed before.

“Ai, Executive Leader Long.” Qi Chen frowned and struggled to see the person collapsed behind the open fire so he couldn’t help conveniently patting Long Ya, “Can you walk a few steps closer to the open fire? Someone collapsed there.”

Long Ya bristled: “Hands off, where are you patting?! Are you treating me like a remote control car, going wherever you want?!”

Although his mouth held a thousand words of displeasure, Long Ya still circled around that unmoving old lady who collapsed on the ground, already on the verge of death, and walked beside the open fire. He lifted his honorable Long foot disdainfully and flipped over the person collapsed on the ground with the edge of his foot.

When Qi Chen saw this person, he associated them with the voice he heard when he hadn’t opened his eyes yet. If he didn’t guess wrong, the person that conspired with the old lady definitely wouldn’t have brought along a burden to escape so carefreely. At that time, the muffled sound of something falling to the ground could’ve very well been a person falling to the ground.

And that person should be the one who was possessed by dirty things, Xu Liang.

Because all along, he couldn’t believe the real Xu Liang would treat him this way.

The current situation proved that Qi Chen didn’t guess wrong at all. After being flipped over by Long Ya, that person revealed a face Qi Chen was familiar with.

Right now, although Xu Liang didn’t have the vitality of when he was normally awake, he looked a lot more gentle than he was on that small road.

“He…….”

Qi Chen hadn’t finished speaking and Long Ya already knew what he wanted to ask. He glanced at the person on the ground and interrupted Qi Chen: “Still breathing. Only unconscious.”

Qi Chen released a huge breath then hesitated for a moment: “Executive Leader Long, this person is my friend. Can you perhaps ——”

“No!’ Long Ya was resolute and decisive with a twisted face of disdain: “It’s torture enough carrying one. What will it look like carrying two?! Wouldn’t it be stupid? Ss —— at most I’ll grab his ankle and drag him back.”

Qi Chen: “…….” Dragging him back on his road of rocks and icy sludge, will Xu Liang’s face still look human?!

But he hadn’t even spoken before Long Ya changed his mind himself…… because he really didn’t want to use his hand to pick up the stupid foot of a mortal.

Long Ya hesitated between ‘contributing his honorable shoulder or dirtying his honorable hand to pick up someone’s foot’ for two seconds. Ultimately he still picked up Xu Liang in a bad mood and threw him over his shoulder. Only he didn’t have any sort of friendship with Xu Liang so his carrying was extremely perfunctory. It was full of a ‘even if you fell to the ground and your face got ground into mush it wouldn’t have anything to do with laozi’ manner.

He originally thought the entire matter was over. Who knew that when Long Ya turned around about to leave, Qi Chen on his shoulder looked on helplessly as the old lady that had originally collapsed on the ground without breath, suddenly struggled. Then, seemingly using a lifetime’s worth of strength, she lifted her hands from the ground.

That pair of hands had already been burned into a pitch black appearance by the daggers. Qi Chen even doubted if those hands would carbonize and crumble into dust the instant she raised them.

However, that old lady didn’t seem to care about this at all. In the instant Long Ya passed, she suddenly got up, her two burnt black hands firmly gripped onto Qi Chen’s hand that was hanging behind Long Ya’s back.

Qi Chen: “……”

As expected the so-called ‘it's the soft persimmons that people choose to squeeze‘ was an eternal truth.

(T/N: basically it’s the weak that get picked on)

Long Ya only felt his right shoulder grow heavier, his footsteps pausing. He turned around with knitted brows, instantly seeing the old lady gripping onto Qi Chen.

He tsked and said softly: “This lingering ghost is courting her own death!”

“Don’t you dare count on me to have the concept of respecting the old and cherishing the young for an old bastard like you that plots to take someone’s life! Besides, if time was really calculated, you should be the one respecting me — —” As the last word fell, the gleam of a blade suddenly appeared at Long Ya’s feet. As long as he stepped down, that sinister and vicious old lady’s soul would fly away and scatter.

“I’m begging you…….” Unexpectedly, that old lady trembled and struggled to shift to the side. Then she raised her head and said towards Qi Chen: “I’m begging you to help me…..”

That aged yet soft voice was shockingly the same one Qi Chen had heard in his dreams previously. From Qi Chen’s perspective, he just happened to catch sight of the old lady’s arm, which was as thin and bony as a matchstick, within her sleeve. And on that arm was precisely that stolen gilded white jade bracelet. Only that bracelet currently no longer had the smooth sebum-like appearance it had when it was on the exhibition shelf but was rather ashy and dull as if all the vitality inside it had evaporated. Worn on the hard of this similarly lifeless old lady, it was actually indescribably fitting.

Long Ya was probably a typical ‘open to persuasion but not coercion’ type of person. It’s just that even when being persuaded, he had to be irritable.

But right now the old lady before him was obviously not on his radar for persuasion. Thus he only paused for a moment before saying impatiently: “Are you done?! Picking a soft permission to squeeze on purpose! Begging him to help you? What can he help you with?! Why didn’t you think he could help you when you were pouring horse urine down his throat just now?! Get out of the way!”

Seeing that Long Ya was about to raise his foot, the old lady curled up and released Qi Chen’s hand. Then she fumbled for a token-like thing from her clothes, hurriedly presenting it: “That’s right, right. I, I have this! I, this old one has this!”
