13 : Make Kettle – 1

“Now then, to the office on the right.”
I left the safety room and faced the right pathway, flying past the slope of debris and entering the new office.

“Jyuu……”
“…… The only thing new in here was just a wooden plank.”
Thus, the results of the search.
I found 4 Poisonous Bite Rats, several cables and a wooden board that seemed easy to use.
As for the items I actually picked up, it was three Poisonous Bite Rat front teeth, a cable, the wooden board, and one Poisonous Bite Rat corpse that was perfectly undamaged.
Well, it wasn’t bad.
First, if I dismantle and process this Poisonous Bite Rat carcass, I could at least make some new clothes out of it.

“However that, the tooth knife was okay, but regarding weapons, it was probably important to think it over a bit more.”
Also, while I was fighting the Poisonous Bite Rat, I noticed something concerning the handling of weapons.
Well no, I realized it a while ago, but since I was primarily focused on item creation via the grudge table or Curse Concentration Deficiency, I simply forgot about it.

“It was impossible for me to directly swing my weapon after all.”
I swung the knife in my hand horizontally.
Then, because of levitation, my feet couldn’t stick to the floor, so my body moved in the opposite way of the knife swing.
This sensation was like sitting in a spinning chair and swinging your arms without having your feet touch the floor.
At any rate, my body naturally moved based on the law of action-reaction, so the momentum of my arm swinging the knife was dampened.
With this, I wouldn’t be able to properly cut through an opponent with the blade.
Depending on the situation, I could see my body being forced to rotate from the point of contact between the knife and target as well.
Normally, your field of vision would turn along with your body, but since I had 13 eyes, that wasn’t a problem.

“Well, the knife wasn’t all too bad.”
I returned to the topic at hand.
As a matter of fact, short weapons like the knife and the rebar with attached concrete were weapons that I could still handle to an degree.
Just like when I was using the front tooth before, all I had to do was cling to my opponent’s body and thrust the knife into them.
It wasn’t as if it was unmanageable at all.

“As for something around this length…… Yeah, there’s nothing I could do with it.”
I picked up a 1 meter long deteriorated pole that seemed unusable as a weapon and lightly swung it.
Then, my body spun in a way that outmatched the response with the knife. I felt like it was lacking in speed and sharpness as well.
With this, I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t even do 1 damage to an enemy.
I discarded the rod.

“Hm……”
I was once again at my wits end with how much of a nuisance levitation was.
To begin with, even with existing martial arts, it was usually common sense to have both feet on the ground as fundamentals.
Yet, since I was given the curse of levitation, I’ve gone outside the realm of common sense.
Seeing as how I wasn’t interested in remaking my avatar, it’s become essential for me to think of different way to fight.

“One option was close combat with a knife and a small mace.”
This first fighting method was the same as what I’ve been doing.
However, close combat clearly demanded nimble actions and with my movements….. I had a feeling that it was only inevitable that I’d eventually get checkmated.

“One was to somehow become a magic user. Attacking with a barrage of throwable items was a possibility too.”
The second way of fighting was focused on long distance.
Yep, it was impossible for me currently.
If I progress through the game, I might find a curse that resembled magic, but right now, I was alone with no other players or enemies around. In an environment with just rats around, I can’t really expect to find any hints either.
Throwing was also impossible without a surplus of resources and reserves to an extent.
Gun? Bow? Well, I’ll put those concerns in the corner of my mind for now.
It didn’t seem like I’d be able to handle them even if they did appear anyways.

“Another alternative was…… Preferably, I could maybe adapt a style that makes use of a weapon’s weight and centrifugal force to smack enemies around. If it was just this, it was probably doable even for me.”
The third combat approach was to somehow use the mass of the weapon itself to accelerate it.
Momentary acceleration was possible if I just stepped off the ground, so that instance of acceleration should produce some good enough results for this fighting method.
The weapons that come to mind would be a large axe, a greatsword, a big hammer…… On second thought, would I even be able to carry the weight of any of these weapons to begin with?
Weight would have to be within my capabilities while the weapon itself should have some momentum behind it…… I might just look it up in real life instead.

“Now, the next room was……”
I put an end to my contemplation and resume my exploration.
Currently, the inspection of the left and right offices that could been seen upon leaving the safety area was completed.
The only thing remaining was the small chambers near those offices.
If you think about it reasonably, I feel like there should be stairs or something linking to other floors somewhere around here.

“……”
The number of aisles connecting to the left and right offices totaled 3.
The walls broke off around the middle section of the pathways, most likely leading to the passage in front of the safety area. There was probably a long path that cut across horizontally.
Then, I didn’t know the exact location, but I could hear the sounds of something moving and the cry of a rodent in one of the rooms somewhere.
In other words, there were enemies.

“Nn……”
Starting from the safety area, I cautiously observed my surroundings as I made my way to the furthest pathway and slowly entered.
I could see a Poisonous Bite Rat-like figure at the other end of the office, but it hasn’t noticed me.
Then, there were several doors lined up to the left and right side of the pathway.
Inside the rooms were…… Simply an assembly of debris and defiled desks.

“This place seems to be safe enough.”
Looking at the floor in its entirety, I had arrived in front of a room that was situated in the opposite direction of the safety area.
The door was closed.
Thus, I verified that there were no noises or such coming from within the room and opened it.

“An office kitchenette? Huh!”
Inside of the room was an office kitchenette.
It doesn’t seem like the rats did any damage to it, but the usual disintegrating phenomenon laid waste to the shelves and cooktop.
However, I realized the possibility of a something and hurriedly entered the office kitchenette, shutting the door behind me.
In all likelihood, this should prevent the rats from showing up while I was investigating the area.

“If it’s a office kitchenette, then it should surely have it……”
I quietly started fishing through the pile of rubble and ruins to the best of my ability.
Since this was a kitchenette with a cooktop, the item or something similar to it should be around here somewhere as well.

“There it is!”
And so, what I discovered amongst the pile of debris was a kettle that shined gold in color.
Moreover, there wasn’t a single occurrence of the disintegration on the entire object, it was a kettle in perfect condition.

“Appraise appraise”
I turned the『Appraisal Loupe』towards the kettle without delay.

I held the handle on top of the kettle and lightly shook it.
Normally, the part between the main kettle and the handle should move accordingly with my own movements, but it didn’t.
I also took it upon myself to try to remove the lid, but it too showed no signs of budging.
Just as the explanation entailed, a curse was seemingly causing it to be immovable.

“……”
I thought about it for a bit…… And came to the conclusion that it wouldn’t be much of a problem.
The way I was thinking of utilizing it regarded this issue as a trivial matter.

“Alright, let’s return to the safety area once.”
I then stored the kettle inside of the Poisonous Bite Rat’s fur bag and defeated the Poisonous Bite Rat that was in the left office.
As I made it back to the safety area, I simultaneously leveled up.
