33 : Process Fern -1

“Login. Now then, let’s get to creating what I needed to make right at once.”
“Chuchuu”
Why did I need to make a weapon in the first place?
The reason for that was to deal with enemies which『Taruwiveno』couldn’t address.
So, which enemies can’t it handle?

“Since the antenna from earlier will work as a base for the grip, I’ll just remove any unnecessary parts.”
The first problematic enemies were those unaffected by poison.
If I encountered them, I’d just run away, but there might be situations where I wouldn’t be able to, so it’s important to consider how I should fight given those circumstances.

“I’ll knit the vines of the dangling meat fern flower together to make a rope…”
Another problem is when the opponent’s numbers are too many.
If the number of my opponents were around 6 or so, it’d still be negotiable, but when it’s 100 or even 200, having to use『Magic Eye of Poison・1+』on every single one of them would be impossible to say the least.
Here, the best outcome would be escaping as well, but if that’s not possible, I’d like to have a AoE attack method.

“Ah, while I’m at it, I should use the upper and lower jaws separately.”
The thing is, they could come at me before the poison effect even activates. In other words, a so-called blitzkrieg.
The damage over time from my poison is ample enough, but it doesn’t do much instantly and even if the poison progresses to a severe illness, it’ll be difficult to cripple them all. It wouldn’t do me any good if they approached me faster than the time it takes for my poison to stack up.
Well, again, the best thing to do here is to simply run away, but in the case that that’s impossible, I at least want to find an easy way to restrain them from coming any closer.

“Muu, this is surprisingly complicated. It’s no good if the length is too long or too short….. Hmm, it’ll be hard to make adjustments after cursing it too.”
Then, under these conditions, what sort of weapon could I make that would work with my levitation curse?
I searched up a lot of various weapons in real life and the one I decided on was exactly what I was in the middle of making currently.

“Okay, it’s ready, more or less.”
With that said, I looked over to the object placed in front of me once again.
The main handle consisted of a metal rod that was 1 meter in length and on it’s end, a Poison Spitting Rat’s lower mandible was settled there.
Along with that, a dangling meat fern flower vine also spanning a meter was tied to the tip as well.
Finally, at the other end of the vine was… the upper jaw of a Poison Spitting Rat, or rather, the skull of it which had been rearranged. Its eye sockets now had the front teeth of Poisonous Bite Rats protruding out of them and the inside of the skull was largely packed with even more of their front teeth wrapped in a pelt to add to its weight.
Furthermore, since the 2 jaws from the Poison Spitting Rat fit well together, it was possible to still make them look conjoined if one of them was properly placed on top.

“All things considered, I wonder how I should go about cursing this thing.”
To put it simply, from an outward appearance, the finished weapon was a flail.
It was a weapon that used a chain or string to attach the handle to the striking part, called the grain. It’s quite difficult to defend against since its behavior can be erratic at times and it has centrifugal force behind it, enabling powerful blows.
It can be considered challenging to use, but it’s not like I can properly handle normal weapons with this body of mine in the first place.
Though, instead of being influenced by your knowledge of using existing weapons, I guess it’s better to be able to start from scratch.

“Well, can’t go wrong with just directly increasing its strength.”
“Chuu”
I placed the completed flail on the grudge table.
Upon doing so, as usual, the grudge table enveloped the flail in a red, black, and purple fog.

“At the very least, I hope this’ll obtain a strength that won’t pale in comparison to a weapon made of metal…”
Like always, I watched intently as I muttered my wishes to steer the curse.

“There’s no need for it to have poison. It would probably be hard to use if it did.”
My mental image of it was flawless.

“Please don’t break either. Please don’t break.”
I imagined a weapon that abolished everything unnecessary and was jam-packed with only the essentials.

“It’s done.”
The fog cleared away. The tied knots of the vines and such were gone. Each and every component was securely unified into a single flail.
Thus, I immediately appraised it.

Rat Flail
Level : 5
Durability : 100/100
Interference : 100
Corruption : 100/100
Abnormalities : 5

A flail that has a rat’s skull as it’s blunt part.
It’s strength increases depending on the surrounding curse concentration.
It seemingly moves in accordance with how the user intends it to.

“Nice, no demerits at all.”
I held the rat flail with both my hands and lightly swung in place.
Yep, since the momentum moves my body, it’s hard to handle.
Which is why I left the safety area to try it out in a fairly spacious office.

“Then, first I’ll just gently…”
I vigorously launched off of the floor as I twirled with the rotations being accelerated by my wings.
Even in the middle of the intense gyrations, my additional eyes were able to accurately aim at their target… I used the momentum behind my spin and bashed the blunt part against my enemy!

“Chu-…gah…”
“Alright, no issues there it seems.”
The blunt portion of the flail scored a direct hit on its target, the back of a Poisonous Bite Rat’s head.
The Poisonous Bite Rat’s cranium forcibly dented and just like that, it had perished.
For the time being, I’ll end my test run here.
As expected, it had a strong sense of uniqueness to it, but it’s seemingly become a sufficient weapon.

“Well then, in which case, I should move on.”
I collected the Poisonous Bite Rat’s front tooth that was remaining after the corpse had disintegrated before returning to the safety area.

“First up…『Taruwiveno』”
Upon arriving back at the safety area, I turned to face the vine that stretched from the ceiling to the floor and fired off my『Magic Eye of Poison・1+』at the bud located at the tip of the dangling meat fern flower.
After a short time, the vine dropped down as it was torn from its root.

“Dismantle, dismantle.”
I disassembled the plant using the tooth knife.
The leaves were cut from the edge of the vine and collected.
The flower bud was also supposed to be cut from the vine, but… it was quite resilient.
However, although it took some time, I somehow succeeded in acquiring it.
Anyways, let’s appraise it.

Dangling Meat Fern Flower’s Bud
Level : 1
Durability : 100/100
Interference : 100
Corruption : 100/100
Abnormalities : 5

A flower bud produced at the end of the vine from a dangling meat fern flower.
It has the property of increasing its strength depending on the curse concentration around it.
It emits a nice scent, but because it was detached from the vine and moss, it will not bloom any further.

“Hmm, the buds don’t seem very easy to use.”
At this rate, would it be better if I just threw it like a rock or ball at an enemy in an area with high curse concentration?
If I head over to a place that’s low in curse concentration, its strength would decrease and I’d be able to peel off the marbled meat-like layers which might have various uses, but… that’s impossible for me, huh.

“Regardless, I should try harvesting it after the flower blooms next time.”
I wonder if it lacks nourishment, or maybe the safety area isn’t big enough. To begin with, I don’t even know if it needs growth anyways, but only 1 dangling meat fern flower vine was willing to grow that far.
That being the case, it wouldn’t be possible to obtain the flower until tomorrow and after.
Moreover, although the dangling meat fern flower absorbs the curse concentration around it to grow, the curse concentration itself doesn’t actually diminish from the room.
This might just be a convenience that exists for the sake of the game, but beyond that, it could be that the curses are purely too abundant in this world.

“Now then, let’s start processing the leaves, shall we?”
I picked up one of the many Poisonous Bite Rat skulls I had along with a sizable bone and tore up the leaves of the dangling meat fern flower as I tossed them into the inside of the skull.

TN: By the way, in the comments for the raws, someone questioned what Taru’s pose was during the activation of her 13 eyes. Does her pose involve her joining her hands like Virgin Mary? Maybe she poses like a surgeon with both hands raised before an operation? Or does she spread her arms out and lean forward facing her target? Or maybe she crosses her arms in front of her chest like a mummy?
The author says he hasn’t specified a pose, but imagines that her poses probably depend on how she’s feeling during the moment.
