Guild Rank Battle ①

(Bersleid: Yeah, the upcoming chapters are going to be a drag. Not as bad as that one WN where they show the same fight for 30+ chapters and 5+ different perspectives, but it is still a drag and a let-down. Not gonna spoil your fun, but to me, this was entertaining for these three chaps and I got bored after. So yeah, hope you CAN enjoy it, though lower your expectations. Also, for those who missed my notice, I was sick, didn’t want to make it big, so I just quietly slipped it in. There.)

On the day of the Guild Rank Battle Royale –

“Wow, there are so many people here!”

Hinagiku exclaimed in surprise at the sight before her.

After registering for the tournament in Windham, the starting town they hadn’t visited in a while, they headed to the park in the southern district, which was the venue for the tournament. There, countless players had already gathered.

“We have to fight here?”

Licorice looked worried as she gazed towards their guild, “Lua Cheia”, and then hid behind Crim’s back.

…I don’t think standing behind me will be of much help.

Crim, who had been drawing attention since the recent live stream, smiled wryly and searched for an empty space to move to.

“I became a fan after watching your live stream! Please call me a small fry!”

“Huh!? Y-yes, I got it?”

“Thank you very much!!”

Crim watched the cheerful player walk away with a dumbfounded expression.

This kind of thing had happened several times already.

“Looks like you’re popular, Crim-chan.”

“I would have preferred to avoid this kind of popularity if possible…”

Crim smiled wryly at Frey’s words, who was suppressing a laugh.

Well, rumours die out in 75 days. Crim thought optimistically that it would eventually settle down.

At that moment…

“Oh, hello Crim-san.”

“Oh, isn’t it Elmir!” (Bersleid: The first challenger, who was destroyed by Freya…)

Suddenly, a voice called out from behind. Crim turned around in surprise to see a young man in a knight-like attire wearing metal armour. Recognizing him, Crim relaxed and her expression softened.

“I saw your stream, you’re quite popular.”

“Haha… it’s okay to laugh about it, you know?”

Crim played along with her outward-facing performance as “Crim Lua Cheia”.

“Isn’t it popular, Crim-chan?”

“I wish I could avoid this kind of popularity if possible…”

Crim smiled to herself while holding back a chuckle at Frey’s words, looking slightly exasperated. She was optimistic that the rumours would eventually die down, as they usually did after 75 days.

“No, really… I don’t think it’s true. You look cute and pretty with it,” the young man said unexpectedly in a serious tone.

“I-I see… It’s a little embarrassing to be praised outside of the stream, though…”

Crim was actually embarrassed by the unexpected compliment, but her expression remained stern. The reason for this was probably related to the placement of the qualifying tournament. Because…

“I intended to show how much I’ve grown in this match… but my [Silver Wings] are in the same block as you, right?”

“Yeah… the 7th block. And the top candidate for victory, [Northern Glacier], is also there.”

“Well, I guess it’s not just bad luck… maybe it’s because of our bad behaviour in the past?”

“Elmir… What do you mean by that?”

Crim gave Elmir a sympathetic look as he shrugged his shoulders uncomfortably. But Elmir noticed this and flexed his muscles, showing off his strength and giving Crim a big grin.

“Still, I’m not going to lose easily. There might be a chance to overturn the situation in the Battle Royale. We’ve been training hard since we lost to you, so we’re not giving up without a fight!”

“I see… Yes, I’ll do my best too. I’m looking forward to fulfilling our promise in the main match tomorrow,” Crim replied, smiling brightly.

Elmir also grinned happily; his previously blank expression now relaxed.

“…Ah! Then, see you tomorrow!”

With a clear nod, Elmir says this. He doesn’t show any signs of despair anymore and is instead filled with motivation, putting the speaker at ease.

However, they can’t worry about other guilds at the moment. The speaker turns around and talks to Licorice, the girl who’s been clutching onto Crim’s cloak and hiding behind her stiffly.

“Licorice, are you okay?”

“I-I-I’m fine…”

…It doesn’t seem like it.

Being a shy and introverted child, she’s become completely frightened by the gazes of the people around her. The speaker can’t help but chuckle at the sight of Licorice, who’s been moving her arms and legs while walking along with them. However, at this point in time, it’s not a problem.

“Are you okay? Don’t worry,” Crim said.

“Sis…?”

“Today, we’ll try to hide as much information about Licorice’s [Magic gun] as possible. Your first priority is to not be found, so prioritize safety and provide support. Okay?”

“Y-yes, sis.”

She patted the little girl’s head, who seemed a bit relieved. During the preliminary rounds today, they didn’t want to reveal too much about her as a sniper, but there was something more important regarding Licorice.

It was to get used to fighting in front of an audience.

If Licorice could get used to team battles in GvG in front of an audience, it would be a great stroke of luck.

“On the other hand, Hinagiku will have to work really hard today. Are you okay?”

“Yes, I understand. My job is to rampage and make everyone recognize me as a ‘threat’, right?”

“Yes, you can do it,” she said with a smile.

“I’m excited to show off my skills!”

Hinagiku didn’t seem to feel any pressure. She gained confidence when she showed off her boss-killing skills among a large group of spectators when she went to acquire sword skills.

“Frey, we’ll leave the battle command to you. Are you okay with it?”

“Of course. I’m up for the task,” Frey said, nodding without any particular pressure.

“Freya, I want you to stick with me or Hinagiku as much as possible and focus on being a ‘healer protected by everyone’ this time.”

“Yeah, for tomorrow, right?”

Freya conveyed her understanding with her eyes, and Crim nodded in agreement.

“Everyone… Let’s do our best to overcome the preliminaries! …Or, that’s what we should say normally.”

If they were going to do it, they were going to win. And that applied to tomorrow’s main event as well.

“Unfortunately, if I do participate in tomorrow’s main event, it’s uncertain whether I can fight with you guys. I want the four of you to establish coordination today.”

“As expected, ‘that guy’ is the problem, huh?”

“Yeah… I think I’ll be struggling to hold him down tomorrow.”

Crim murmured as he glared at his target with a subdued voice. And there…

“Hey, look at that.”

“That’s the favourite to win…”

“After fighting that guy with his handsome looks, everyone lost their confidence…”

The players were buzzing with excitement. In the midst of the crowd naturally parting ways, a group of five, all wearing black military uniforms, walked with confidence.

Leading the group was a silver-haired young man with horns, walking as if he owned the place. On his right was a blond boy wearing a magician’s robe, walking without a care for the attention he was getting. And today, there was also a new addition, a young man with a subtle air of bad vibes, carrying a powerful bow on his shoulder, who stood between the blond boy and the silver-haired young man, chatting amiably with them.

And then, two remaining members followed them on their left and right without showing any disorder.

――[Northern Glacier] (Norr Glacie)… the biggest contender and unwavering favourite to win in this tournament.

As Crim gazed fixedly at them, the leader, a silver-haired young man suddenly noticed her and glanced over with a fierce predator-like gaze.

“It’s the same,” she thought.

During the time when he went to acquire Hinagiku’s sword acquisition skill, this man happened to be present and gave Crim a fierce look, like that of a carnivorous animal that had found its prey, just before he left.

“Yuu-dan (an elegant man), huh? What’s so elegant about him?”

Yuu-dan… a man with a refined and graceful appearance or a gentle nature, or a refined man.

Crim couldn’t believe that he could be such an admirable man, and his hands trembled with excitement, but he clenched them tightly.

Despite feeling the overwhelming pressure, a childish and joyful smile appeared on Crim’s face, as if she couldn’t contain her excitement.

(Bersleid: Forgot to mention, but my motivation is at an all-time low for this one, so forgive my mistakes, and when I finish this arc, I am putting up a poll whether I should continue this or start something new.)
