Medenna crossed her arms.

She immediately knew why Cavan Tassio did that.

“You’re not angry?”

“No, but I was quite surprised. I knew he’d spend a lot of money and do useless things.”

“You’re surprised about that?”

Jack laughed and leaned against the wall, and said, “You’re an unusual lady.”

“To be honest, I don’t want to participate in a debutante.”

“Really?”

“When I started sponsoring Farren, I heard so many rumors about him until I got sick of it. Imagine what would happen at that debutante.”

“It’s obviously because of the perception of mages in this country.”

She became a hot topic just because Farren was a mage.

In this empire, a mage was nothing more than a lowly race with strange powers.

Medenna knew that the people praised her for her beautiful appearance, but laughed at her behind her back saying that she was a vulgar to have sponsored a mage.

“But the fact that Cavan Tassio did such a thing…”

Medenna squinted and held her chin.

“Just when I think you’re living quietly, you show yourself once again, Suzanne.”

Behind him, the beautiful, silver-haired girl would have secretly manipulated things such as this.

“This is not something I should let go of. I have to do something in retaliation.”

“As expected, Rodenherg’s successor is relentless. You know what? That’s why Count Tassio calls you a fox.”

“It’s not as bad as I would have expected.”

“Hahaha!”

Medenna ignored Jack, who laughed excitedly, and pulled a small box out.

When she handed the box to Jack, he looked puzzled.

“Are you asking me to clean up after a murder?”

“Say something that makes sense. Open it and take a look.”

Jack opened the lid, looked inside, and then he whistled.

“Are they ancient coins? They’re all made of gold, right? “

“Yes. Your organization worked hard. Don’t enjoy it alone, but also share it with your members.”

“I’m just impressed by your generosity, Countess Rodenherg.”

When he said this exaggeratedly, Medenna shook her arm.

“You just have to be nice to me from now on. Anyway… I want to ask you something.”

“What is it?”

“Remember when I asked for an investigation separately from Suzanne, I mean Blint and Porsha?”

“Yes.”

“….There was a recent conflict with the Laugels of the Lucas Mercenary Guild. I heard that the name of the person who negotiated as their representative was Blint.”

“Really?”

“Didn’t you know?”

“Well, the Laugel people are exclusive…I didn’t even know his name.”

“I see. The Blint I’m looking for wasn’t mixed race, so it’s likely a coincidence…”

“….Then, please keep up the good work.”

“Since I received such a big gift today, it’s only natural that I do so. Then, please continue to show us a lot of love, my client.”

Jack said, exaggeratedly as usual, and then escaped through the window.

Medenna stared at him for a while and crossed her arms.

“…Something’s weird. I need to investigate Blint.”

It was strange that Jack’s reaction to this was too calm.

“I’m suspicious because of the nature of this novel….”

He didn’t seem like someone who would betray her, but she couldn’t shake off her suspicion.

“This will be confirmed after meeting Blint in person.”

Medenna closed the window and shut the curtains, thinking about the future in her head.

***

As soon as Jack left, he headed west.

The destination was a commercial district not far from the countess’s residence.

It was just where the abandoned building, which was supposed to be the headquarters building of the Lucas Mercenary Guild, was located.

Jack, who landed on the second floor of the abandoned building in a sleek motion, knocked on the window using a unique pattern of knocking.

Blint, who heard it, was chewing on dried fish and opened the window.

“Blint, you’re eating snacks without alcohol?”

“Alcohol’s too expensive. Give me some money then.”

Blint sat on an old chair.

Jack threw some gold coins at him.

“This is…”

“Bonus from the client.”

“Oh, the owner of this building.”

“She asked me to share with the members, and we’re also partners.”

Jack strode toward Blint, and faced him.

“Did you know that I hid your existence from the lady?”

“…But not anymore, right? She wants me on her side.”

“Then you could’ve shown yourself kindly instead of provokingly in that way.”

“Why are you suddenly giving me this advice?”

“Where else could you find a courteous and sincere business partner like me?”

When Jack said that, Blint threw the leftover dried fish at him.

“You should be careful when you meet her. If you treat her badly, you might die.”

“I know. The crazy dog that the lady raised won’t stay still. I’m looking forward to it.”

Jack laughed out loud when he heard that.

This was because he thought of the black-haired kid in the lady’s house.

“That’s all I can say to you. Let’s meet with your neck intact next time.”

“Yes, thank you.”

Jack suddenly disappeared through the window again.

Blint, who was staring at the sky, threw gold coins into the air and caught them.

The gold coins in his palm revealed heads again.

***

The day of appointment had arrived.

They were about to meet Blint and have lunch together.

The meeting place was a private room in a restaurant that the Rodenherg family secretly used to conduct business.

“The guest you mentioned has arrived.”

“Okay. Lead them here.”

“I’ll lead them here right away.”

Farren and Sein were also there.

Sein mainly concentrated on Farren, just in case he went rampage.

He pretended to be calm, but that perfectionist little boss was extremely wary.

Sein, who got used to Farren after working together for a long time, could clearly see that.

Whether Medenna noticed it or not, she seemed to be looking forward to meeting Blint.

He came inside after being guided by the servant.

“Oh, you’re a handsome young man.”

Medenna praised him.

His appearance was very attractive and wild-like.

He was dressed neatly to respect her.

“Nice to meet you, Lady Rodenherg. My name is Blint.”

“Yes, I’m Medenna Rodenherg. Thank you for coming all the way.”

“Don’t mention it. Rather, you treat the person who occupies your property so kindly that I don’t know what to do.”

He said smoothly.

‘This Blint and the Blint in the novel are similar in many ways.’

He could even control the mood in a room in a way that left everyone comfortable.

“Sit down first. You’ve met the other two before so there’s no need for an introduction, right?”

“Yes, that’s true.”

“Okay. I’m hungry, so let’s eat first.”

“I’m sorry in advance because I’m not well versed in noble dining etiquettes.”

“Forks and knives will be new for each course, and you can cut the food into bite-sized pieces and eat it, so you don’t have to worry about it.”

“I’ll keep that in mind.”

After that, the appetizer was served.

Farren didn’t open his mouth at all, listening as Sein and Medenna replied to Blint’s jokes.

It was such an awkward encounter that even a person watching from the side would also feel it.

After finishing the meal, dessert and tea came out.

Medenna, who thought it was finally time, came right to the point.

“Okay, then. Can I begin by asking you a question?”

“Sure.”

“I could have forced you out of the building, but the reason I didn’t… Do you know why?”

Blint smiled brightly at her question.

“You don’t want the Lucas Mercenary Guild and the Rodenherg family to be linked together, doyou? On the surface, the mercenary guild run by nobles cannot mobilize military force to evict barbarians. But knowing you, it’s possible for that mage to get rid of us silently.”

“I don’t intend to make Farren do such a thing.”

Medenna said clearly after drinking her tea.

“Your reasoning is not wrong, but the biggest reason is that I’m interested in you.”

Sein sneakily observed Farren.

Perhaps on purpose, he wasn’t looking at Blint, but the fork Farren held, which was bent in a strange direction.

“Oh my. I don’t know what to do. What makes you so interested in me?”

“I think you know it’s because of your skills. The Lucas Mercenary Guild has a shortage of manpower. And I like people who seem to be good at work.”

“Hmm.”

Blint crossed his arms leaning against the back of his chair.

His eyes were focused on Medenna and Farren.

When he made eye contact with Farren, he could feel the pressure given off by him.

He seemed to be refraining from using magic because he was in front of Medenna, but he could easily suffocate people only by his aura.

While not noticing Farren’s behavior, Medenna spoke politely.

“I appreciate your guts, but I also appreciate how resourceful you and the Laugel people are.”

“It’s an honor.”

“So I’d like to suggest this. Do you have any intention of working at the Lucas Mercenary Guild?”

Sein unknowingly looked at Medenna in admiration.

It was a clever way of solving the shortage of manpower at the Lucas Mercenary Guild all at once.
