To simplify everything, Lina has been playing all the roles in her own play.

She had Prince Savalier poisoned in order to cure him of it. What a horrific plan to think of.

Apparently, Lina has been feeling ashamed since the saintess selection incident.

As the saintess, she will eventually become the queen of this kingdom after marrying Maynard—or so she has been spreading around way before the saintess ceremony, and such conduct of hers had earned quite the scorn of the surroundings.

Nobody ever entertained her thereafter, and even his father, Count Wagner, had become the laughing stock of the high society. Their reputation has fallen so low that she can no longer expect a decent marriage. Far from that, the count has even considered sending her off to a monastery, thus, Lina was driven to a corner.

That’s when she started thinking of a way to turn her reputation over.

Nevertheless, poisoning the prince and wanting all of the recognition by saving him from it was just too much.

Even if she had the absolute certainty that she could save him, she still put the prince to severe suffering for moments and even ruined the entire day. Even the server who served the champagne was frightened too. Some things can be excused, and then there is this.

Count Wagner implored the magnanimity of the king saying that it was just an impulse from her daughter, and how she had no murderous intent, but there is no way his majesty will forgive her for putting his son in severe danger.

In the end, Count Wagner was stripped of his titles, while Rina was put in a dungeon awaiting her punishment. The young master of House Wagner, Lord Glotz, was appalled by the things his father and younger sister did. He offered to relinquish both the land and the title, but the young heir was so virtuous a gentleman that it makes you doubt his blood relation with the two perpetrators. He’s a man who wouldn’t hurt a fly. Furthermore, he is close with his highness, Savalier, and although these things cannot entirely absolve him of the crimes of his father and younger sister, he was still given a reprieve. He was banished to study in foreign lands until all the heat cools down, and can only inherit the land and title upon his return after two years. In the meanwhile, the management of House Wagner shall be under the responsibility of the royal family.

‘It shouldn’t be as severe as execution, right, sir?’

When the night came, Maynard, as per usual, visited to drink tea with me. I asked him so and he replied with a soft smile.

‘An assassination attempt of a prince is enough grounds for a execution, though.’

I see. I knew it. It’s not like I’m trying to cover for her, but the thought that she was just a lady that danced in the palm of the existence of a saint, made me more sympathetic to her. When I look up at Maynard’s eyes, he only assured me that everything is fine.

‘To be accurate, it is either execution or confinement. Lina may have poisoned Savalier, but crowds of people also saw her saving him. Therefore, we concluded it as her not having any ill-intent, and brought it down to confinement.

‘Is that so? Thank goodness…’

‘You’re too kind. Even though she put you through so many things.’

‘…I… do hate Lina, sir. But that is different from wishing her harm.’

If I were to be asked whether I can forgive her, I would say no. Therefore, even if they decided to execute Lina, I would kneel and cling to beg for her forgiveness. But still, an execution would leave a bad after-taste, so I felt relieved knowing otherwise.

I drank the tea with milk and honey right next to Maynard. I’ve been putting in more milk lately because I’ve been having trouble sleeping since that day.

Now, the things that Lina did were put into light, and the talk about her being the true saintess had stopped altogether. All of the people who have been condemning me before had, all of a sudden, turned over a new leaf, as though everything hitherto had been an illusion. I know that Maynard must have done something about them. This silly prince used the incident to spread false rumors that the saintess was the one who resolved everything. We were just listening to Sir Savalier’s talks about it, and when I asked Maynard why he did such a thing, he only said, “This way, no one would talk ill of Aileen anymore.’ I was surprised when I was told that Sir Savalier, the king, and the queen, all agreed to such a thing, but thanks to that, the castle’s employees don’t look at me coldly anymore.

They’ll make certain of the circumstances for a while longer, but apparently, I may be able to return to the ducal manor soon.

‘If you ask me, I’d rather you stay here forever.’

Or so he says, but I’ll be paying my stay here by gradually being engaged to him, so I refused.

There are some things I want to think about with everything that happened.

Things about me, and things I must do from now on.

I’ve been engaged to Maynard for 18 years not doubting I will be wed to him eventually, then suddenly it was broken off, then I was chosen as the saintess, then I met Firman, and finally, I lost everything once more. This shows me that I really need to think about how I should be living my life from now on.

So I want to give it serious consideration.

I want to carefully consider what I really want to do with my life from now on.
