CH.3: Cultivation is so Difficult, Some Things Should Not be Exposed

The reputation of this land of cultivating immortals has a long history.

Compared to the sects in the remote mainland, Zhonglu was a place with outstanding talents. Not only was the spiritual energy double that of the four continents, but all schools of Daoism were completely preserved. And in Zhonglu, there were four great sects: Luo Xianjian, Haoran Gate, Tianyin Sect, and Yinquan.

Luo Xianjian was the school of the sword, and behind its doors, there’s an immense amount of sword cultivation techniques. Sword cultivators are sharp and move with their will, thus known as protectors of the weak, and with their powerful strength, they’re indistinctly the head of the four great sects. Haoran Gate was divided into Confucianism and Daoism, cultivating the noble spirit of righteousness, and most experts who travel the land and rivers, practicing chivalry and justice, are of Haoren Gate. The Tianyin Sect was more mysterious, its disciples’ whereabouts hidden in its mist and far from home. Most of them are scholars, studying the natural mysteries known only to heaven, paying special attention to the word ‘fate.’ And lastly, as the name implies, Yinquan 1 has a mouthful of the Yellow Spring 2 within its doors, cultivating the ghostly technique, but that was not the devil path.

Each year, these four great sects would hold an unified disciple-acceptance conference, and no matter who’s family’s children, or any parties’ rogue cultivator, they will do their best to be accepted as disciples–this was not the lesser ten years of struggle, this was simply the difference between walking on a high-altitude tightrope or a broad road of brilliant future prospects.

This year’s General Assembly remained just as popular. Even before the official opening time, Chun Shen Mountain became extraordinarily lively.

Chun Shen Mountain was covered in towering green, trees lush and shadowy, steep plank walkways winding up in layers around the mountainside. The sun shines on the clear streams in the mountains, giving rise to dense water vapor.

The ordinarily deserted mountain welcomed a large crowd during the Conference. As per routine, rogue cultivators set up minor exchanges, letting go of items they wanted to sell and exchanging with others.

After the exchange, most people found a place to sit and meditate, waiting for the Conference to open.

“It’s not that I’m bragging to you. Everyone here knows me and I know all the processes! Just with five spirit stones, you can understand your future opponents and levels’ key points, isn’t it very cost-effective?” In the corner, a crafty-looking fat man pointed at the young youth in front of him, “I only told you because you looked good! Someone, give me 10 spirit stones and I won’t tell him.”

The youth was clearly inexperienced, and his expression hesitated. However, five spirit stones really were too much for a rogue cultivator, causing his heart to be tangled.

Seeing this, the fat man tried to persuade him: “as long as you enter the four major sects, what fear would there be about spirit stones? If a Spiritual Master took you as their disciple, your spirit stones would be counted in the thousands every month!”

The fat man’s last words made the rogue cultivator determined. He had just raised his head to accept the fat man’s offer, but was startled by two people who flashed in front of him.

The young man flying by was graceful in his vermilion-patterned white robe, sword gliding low and showing his robe’s silk edging, appearance delicate. His black hair dispersed like a waterfall behind his body, and his pair of slightly fussed red phoenix eyes roamed, making others unable to move their gaze.

And the man behind him was also dressed in white, but wore an entirely different charm. Long hair tied in a jade crown, eyes as deep as the sea, nose bridge tall and straight, his whole person as warm as jade–one cannot help but feel a sense of trust.

These two men, one after another, stirred up ripples.

The fat man looked from the side of his eye at the rogue cultivator from where the two had disappeared. He turned his head towards the young cultivator and said, “I’ll first give you a single message, just looking at those two men, you’d know they’re from an influential family, talent certainly good……”

The young rogue cultivator returned to his senses, asking in amazement: “Wow, how could they fly? Isn’t it only at the foundation-building period that the sword can fly—-could it be they’re disciples of the four great sects?”

Hearing the rogue cultivator’s question, the fat man rubbed his thumb and index finger together. After the rogue cultivator took out five spirit stones, he unhurriedly put the spirit stone in his mouth, biting it, answering: “Within the influential cultivation clans, there are always those who has some special technique, enabling talented people in the Qi refining period to resist their sword—-but it’s also not a real sword flying, they can only use swords subdued by their ancestors, unable to fight. Alright, I got the money, I’ll tell you about the more famous people here.”

The rogue cultivators with scattered expressions of envy or curiosity were temporarily left hanging, and the two passing figures finally stopped on a rarely visited mountain.

It was Lin Zhizhi and Su Yu.

But unlike usual, the formerly lively face of Lin Zhizhi currently had no expression, even towards the brother and friend, Su Yu, there were no changes.

—-This was Lin Zhizhi’s latest decision.

In order to not unlock that full-of-pits 3 Seductive Physique, he must single-mindedly cultivate, heart and soul with Dao. If he acted according to his past personality, he’ll inevitably delay his cultivation pace. He’s determined to mold his image into an iceberg practicing cultivation like a mad devil—-and after threatening the spirit of the so-called goodwill system, the spirit promised to help him create an iceberg atmosphere to better forcefully cower people who’ll want to get close to him.

Thus after that day, the Lin family horrifyingly found that their little young master had changed! Becoming all kinds of cold, and didn’t even run to the secular world he loved so much, sitting everyday on top of Ling mountain to meditate.

When Father Lin asked, Lin Zhizhi would look out into the sky, as if surveying the heavens, “I’ve thought it through, I shouldn’t waste my talent. Strength is the most important thing.”

Even towards the four big sects disciples, or bumping into Su Yu who tried every possible means of currying favor, Lin Zhizhi only faintly nodded.

But what he didn’t expect was that his facial temperament had been brought out even more, blending with the icy water into something cold. Not only did it not extinguish his charm, but instead he became as if holding a frozen flame.

Full of strange and contradictory temperament, but more and more alluring.

Su Yu stood behind Lin Zhizhi, just quietly standing, feeling as if he’s become one with heaven and earth, as if nothing can hide from him—-but for the change in his close friend, he had some inexplicable confusion in his heart.

The Su family’s eldest son’s eyes were gentle, his voice more pampering and indulgent than towards any other, calling out to Lin Zhizhi: “Zhizhi?”

Lin Zhizhi turned his head—-so far, whenever he recalls the other side’s head’s [Thinking Every day], he wants to blow the other person’s high nose off with a fist—-but he showed amazing perseverance restraining his impulse and maintained his apparent calm, “What’s the matter?”

“What’s happened with you lately? It seems like… you’ve been avoiding me?”

After the end of the sentence, Su Yu’s dark pupils did not flash a glimmer of light.

Lin Zhizhi struggled in his heart for a minute weather to open up and ask—-but when he thought that if he didn’t ask, he was afraid he and Su Yu would never be able to get along naturally again, thus he straight-forwardly opened his mouth, “You…..”

But just as he peeked his head, he went back inside his shell.

Mother’s egg,4 no matter what faced with a familiar face, you can’t just ask: “Are you secretly in love with me” those types of words! No matter how you phrase your language, you’ll feel shame the moment you say it! It’s just like a shameful play!

“Do you…. Do you like someone?” Finally, under Su Yu’s quietly waiting eyes, Lin Zhizhi choked out such a sentence.

When Su Yu heard him, his eyebrows jumped up, and he asked, “Where did you hear that?”

As the incomparable son of a cultivation clan, how smart is Su Yu? Furthermore, with his deep knowledge of his childhood friend, he guessed 80% of things right in a moment—-but didn’t know how Lin Zhizhi suddenly knew.

If he truly knows, then… should he confess directly?

No matter how his thoughts turned, Su Yu’s expression always remained at ease, waiting for the opposite youth’s reply.

“It’s just a sudden feeling……” Lin Zhizhi said slowly, flipping through memories in his head, “Thinking carefully, you’ve never been close with a woman.”

To his surprise, Su Yu admitted very generously, “En, because I don’t like women.”

“…………”

Lin Zhizhi suddenly became upright: Aima, this guy doesn’t want to confess on the spot, does he?

“As for the person I like……” Su Yu bowed his head and smiled vaguely, “When there’s an opportunity, I’ll let you know.”

His remark was like a denial for Lin Zhizhi’s probing. Afterall, in accordance with Lin Zhizhi’s character, if he directly spoke with his current progress, he would be completely rejected and alienated—-he took so much effort to finally come to this person’s side, able to stand at the nearest place, how could he rashly reveal himself now?

Lin Zhizhi quietly checked the favorability value, looked at the unchanged [Goodwill 100], and was silent for a moment: “Okay.”

—-Afterall, there was a saying in the cultivation world: “The cultivation of Daoism is so difficult that we should not expose some things.”

With cold treatment until they’ve entered different sects, in all likelihood, any feelings will fade naturally. Afterall, for practicing cultivators, the greatest desire is to become immortal.

After about half a day, in the wake of faint ringing bell, the Acceptance Conference officially opened.

The four major sects seek for two things: one is to see the root of talent, the second to see the heart’s perseverance.

To be accepted, you must have a spiritual root. The better the spiritual root, the further you can walk down the path of cultivation. But although qualification is the most important, those with average spirit roots and a heart of unwavering determination are not necessarily without the opportunity of success. To want the Dao, you cannot do without either.

According to the past, Chun Shen Mountain would swing a chain in the air. Those who want to participate in the conference must walk through this chain before they have the qualification to be tested.

After walking through this chain, you will encounter a bone mirror, able to test your bones’ spiritual root. Then, you’ll enter the inner heart test, experiencing different illusions.

A real sect person in charge of accepting apprentices will spiritually control the field, and if one does not fall, will be assigned into sects according to their performance. If you obtain number one, you can even choose your own sect, in addition to a high reward.

With the sound of the bell, seeing a wave in the air, a snake-like chain slowly stretched its body, gradually extending to connect to the cliffs on both sides.

A solemn and dignified voice sounded: “Those who want to learn, come forward.”

HAHA for the question I was like “hmmm Idk bro gotta scour the deep baidu webs for the answer” when it was;; on the raw’s synopsis;;

Honestly, I really like Su Yu so far. Gentle, calm, and best of all pampering.

For the names, such as the Sects, should I keep them untranslated, or translate them if it’s confusing? I kept them untranslated due to how it flows better than: Overwhelming gate, collect immortal sword sect;;
