Chapter 54 I'm Not Interested

Lu Shiyu hurried forward a few steps, then turned around and locked eyes with Xiang Ning, smiling as prettily as a flower. He was mesmerized by her beauty for a moment. To be honest, he had never met such an attractive girl in his life, though he was just admiring her and his feelings didn’t extend beyond that. 

As she stared into his clear eyes, she thought to herself, It has always been you. 

She smiled sweetly. “Ask away.” 

“Uh, is your hair natural?” Xiang Ning curiously asked. 

She paused for a moment. Shouldn’t he have asked how she knew him? What she didn’t know was that he automatically thought she had heard of him from someone else. Although he desperately wanted to keep a low profile, at this point the entire school knew him. 

“Uh, it’s natural,” she answered honestly. 

“It’s very pretty, I’ve never seen hair like yours before,” Xiang Ning sincerely said.

“Hehe, thanks. The people in my hometown have similar hair color, too,” she said as she twirled her hair in her finger like a maiden whose lover had just confessed. 

“I see.” He nodded. It was true, then—she was a foreign girl. 

If she knew what he was thinking, she would have rolled her eyes and stuck out her tongue. 

As they chatted, a guy about their age walked over. He was tall, handsome, and looked distinguished in the Qiling High School uniform. With his hair slicked back, he looked like a kind, sunny-type ideal man. 

Every step of his was confident as he went straight for Lu Shiyu, smiling that dazzling, handsome smile of his. As it was lunchtime, many students were walking around the school compound after lunch, and that attracted many conversations. 

“Look, that’s Senior Huang Yuanhai from the upper-third year, he’s already a tier two martial artist. What’s he doing?” 

“What do you think? Can’t you see that girl? That’s Lu Shiyu, she transferred here yesterday. Almost the entire upper secondary form knows her. Now that I’ve seen her myself, I can confirm she is indeed beautiful.” 

“Isn’t the guy standing with her Xiang Ning?” 

“Hehe, get the popcorn, a good show’s about to begin.” 

Everyone knew that Huang Yuanhai was there for Lu Shiyu. 

Indeed, when he approached, Huang Yuanhai directly stood between Xiang Ning and Lu Shiyu. The moment she lost sight of Xiang Ning, Lu Shiyu’s eyes turned as cold as permafrost. She was only 1.7 meters tall. Huang Yuanhai, who was 1.9 meters tall, could only see her face, but not her gaze beneath the heavy lids. 

He turned and looked at Xiang Ning in disgust. He had heard of the kid, but he was just an upper-first year student, after all. He was better than Xiang Ning in height, looks, and capabilities. 

When he had arrived at school this morning, he’d seen Lu Shiyu walking past him and instantly been mesmerized by her. He swore he had never seen such an elegant girl in his life. Although she wasn’t the most beautiful girl he had ever seen, her essence was incomparable to any girl he’d ever met. 

When he approached, he had seen how adorable she was acting with Xiang Ning. If Xiang Ning, a guy who wasn’t half as capable as himself, could attract her, why couldn’t he? 

“Look look, Senior Huang is going straight for the kill. I can’t believe he cut right between them.” 

“Yeah, look at that smile! I’d have fallen in love if I were a girl.”

The consensus was that Xiang Ning wasn’t as good a suitor as Huang Yuanhai. If Lu Shiyu was a swan, Xiang Ning was a toad; he definitely wasn’t a good match for her. Huang Yuanhai, especially, thought so. 

Xiang Ning’s eyebrows were knitted. Although he didn’t think of her that way, he was still irritated by the interruption. He was having a great conversation with her, what did this new guy want? 

Huang Yuanhai ignored his irritated glare, breaking into a dazzling smile as he turned to Lu Shiyu and said, “Junior Lu, my name is Huang Yuan.…” Before he finished uttering his name, his eyes met Lu Shiyu’s icy stare. He felt like she had put him in a chokehold, to the point where he couldn’t even say his full name! 

“I’m not interested.” 

Huang Yuanhai’s eyes widened at the cold voice and sudden change in attitude. She looked so innocent and adorable, why did she turn so cold with him? 

After saying that, Lu Shiyu walked past Huang Yuanhai, grabbed Xiang Ning’s hand, and left. 

Everyone, including Xiang Ning, was stunned by her behavior. She dragged him away just like that! All the students had their jaws on the floor. They had seen for themselves the extreme change in attitude! 

“What did I just witness?” 

“Senior Huang didn’t even get to say his name and was already rejected!” 

“What does Xiang Ning have that Senior Huang doesn’t? He’s the young master of the Huang family, for god’s sake! He’s also a tier two martial artist. Plus, he’s much taller and more handsome, what is this?” 

Everyone was confused—they did not believe in love at first sight. This was too rare in current society, and Xiang Ning was just a part-time student. Despite displaying his awesome talent, he still didn’t have any great influence or power. 

“D-damn it!” Huang Yuanhai turned to glare at the two, clenching his teeth!

Lu Shiyu dragged Xiang Ning over to a large tree near their training grounds. They sat on one of the many benches for students in the compound. 

He scratched his head, unsure of what to do. When he saw her sulking, he forced himself to initiate the conversation. “Right… you’re a transfer student, right? Why’d you come here?” 

“That’s because of…” Lu Shiyu straightened her back and stared straight at Xiang Ning, though suddenly caught herself and shrugged, “because of my family. That’s why I’m here.” 

Xiang Ning didn’t think much of it, and nodded. They sat like that for five minutes, then Xiang Ning stood up and left, leaving Lu Shiyu helplessly sitting there alone. She wanted to stop him, but caught herself. She recalled how she had acted in the beginning and furiously blushed. She had been too direct, revealed too much. It raised suspicion.… 

As her mind raced, a can of strawberry juice appeared before her. She looked up and saw Xiang Ning’s innocent smile. It was a pure smile, as always. Taking the juice, she replied in a small voice, “I thought you abandoned me.” 

Xiang Ning didn’t hear her. He opened a bottle of mineral water and took a few gulps before asking her what she had just said. 

“N-nothing.” Lu Shiyu fell silent, obediently sitting like a completely different person from when they had first met.
