Chapter 78 Unparalleled Talent

Time slowly passed. Once they confirmed that no other beasts came up, they finally felt relief.

“Let’s treat Xiang Ning first. I’ll check the stairs with Liu Ruoxue,” Li Zimo said.

Fang Rou nodded and took out her medicines. She looked at Xiang Ning, who was grinning and trying to be innocent.

“You, just when I said the wilderness is dangerous if you’re wounded…. This is the second time you’ve been severely injured,” Fang Rou sighed as she carefully treated him. Luckily it was only superficial wounds, but it was painful enough that he had to grit his teeth. It was unavoidable, as the medicine stung too much.

Ten minutes later, he stretched his body. The medicine was good! Initially, his back had been burning in pain, but now only a dull ache was left. Fortunately, his movements weren’t affected.

“Thank you,” he thanked her.

Fang Rou rolled her eyes and didn’t say anything. Only after she finished cleaning up did she tell him, “You can rest tonight, the rest of us will take turns standing guard.”

Xiang Ning agreed. He wasn’t in any condition to fight right now, so he could only rest. Once he was fully rested, he would be able to protect them again. Nights in the wilderness were dangerous. He checked the ranking and saw that Wu Rui from Hanwu Academy was still number one, while there were three more teams from the same school below his squad.

It was still too early to decide anything on the first day, so they would stick to their original plan. To obtain a good score, they needed to secure an excellent hunting ground. That would be much more efficient than randomly finding beasts in the wilderness.

Xiang Ning felt that their location was excellent. While there were a lot of ferocious beasts in the city, there were even more places to hide. They had the upper hand there. The buildings had been made by humans, so naturally they could fit in very well. If they properly utilized the buildings and terrain, they could silently kill many ferocious beasts.

The night was long, and after hearing the howls of beasts all night, Xiang Ning finally opened his eyes. While he hadn’t been able to sleep properly, he had still managed to recover half of his strength.

The team quickly cleaned themselves and ate some rations before strategizing.

“I think we should hunt within this area for the next three to five days. While it might be dangerous, we should be able to utilize the environment to silently kill the beasts.” Xiang Ning explained his thoughts to his squad.

Everyone agreed. They were located pretty far from Fortress Three, so it should take some time before anyone else would come here. That meant they had a chance.

For their very first step, they needed to clear the entire building they were in.

There should be more than ten beasts in the building after they killed the tier two Night Cat the night before. If they want to make this building their base, they need to kill everything else that was there.

“Let’s split into two groups. Each group should take one of the two emergency exits and go down simultaneously. That way we can prevent any of the beasts from escaping, as well as corner them. Additionally, I don’t think we can operate as a five-man team in such a tight space,” Li Zimo suggested.

It was exactly as he had said, the hallway was much too narrow for five people. They needed to separate into two groups.

“I’ll go with Xiang Ning, that way our power should be equal.” Fang Rou stood beside him. Other than Liu Ruoxue, everyone there was a martial artist. Only Liu Ruoxue was a pure spirit cultivator, so her body was slightly weaker and she would need more than one person to guard her.

Fang Rou and Xiang Ning were more than enough to handle any beasts, as long as they were tier one. Lu Shiyu was also capable of doing the same, but she needed to protect Liu Ruoxue. Xiang Ning, on the other hand, was confident in Lu Shiyu and Li Zimo’s combat power.

Everyone here was capable of killing a tier one, four-star ferocious beast, and with Lu Shiyu they could even kill any beasts below eight-star. As long as they didn’t encounter a nine-star beast, they should be able to defend themselves.

“Let’s see who can hunt the most,” Li Zimo said for fun, but everyone else felt that it was a good way to motivate themselves.

All five of them cautiously descended the floors. They gave each other a signal on every floor until they finally reached the twelfth, where the smell of blood was the thickest. Everyone immediately raised their alertness to the maximum.

“Be careful,” Xiang Ning whispered into his communication device. He was extremely focused due to the hellish scene in front of him. The hallway had eight corpses of other beasts, and as for the tier two Night Cat they had killed yesterday, even its bones had been ground to dust.

“There’s two tier one, six-star Night Cats in the hallway eating another carcass. Their positions are excellent, you guys can attack first!” Li Zimo decided after confirming that both Night Cats were facing him.

As long as they attract their attention and block the first few attacks, he was certain that Xiang Ning would be able to kill one of the beasts.

Li Zimo was truly a capable man, even though he was young. His confidence in becoming the bait instantly flagged him as someone extraordinary, destined to become someone great in the future.

The observers in Fortress Three also nodded their heads.

Almost everyone had had their eyes glued on Xiang Ning when they killed the tier two Night Cat the day before.

“Xiang Ning is an excellent talent!” many of the headmasters clamored.

“Look, they’re going to hunt both of the beasts.”

The following scene surprised them even more. Li Zimo hadn’t even entered the hallway for five seconds before two flashes of steel took down both of the Night Cats. The speed was too quick for anyone to fully comprehend what had happened.

“Sigh. We’re both from the same academy, but why are you so talented?!” Li Zimo was envious.

……

Great Blue River.

Fang Hao’s squad finally arrived. They were greeted by the rocking waves of the river, but Fang Hao was still deep in thought. He had successfully broken through and was now leading a squad of five tier four martial artists, two tier five martial artists, and one tier six martial artist. They were all the strongest fighters in the military and Thunder Dojo.

“Young Master Fang, I think we should investigate the site where something went wrong. Everything that happened there is still a mystery,” a white-haired elder spoke.

“Yeah!” Fang Hao readied himself. They were now roughly a kilometer away from the place of the incident and could faintly see the town, even though it was surrounded by a sea of trees.
