In the Northern Country, there were no customs that prevented men and women from interacting. Zhan Lue directly called him over to join them for dinner. Lifting the curtains, Jiang Qin entered. Upon noticing Zhan Yin and Zhan Jin, he immediately apologised.

Zhan Lue said, “Eat first and warm up. We’ll talk about the rest later.”

Jiang Qin had been outside for the entire day and did not really eat. The palace maids gave him a bowl and a pair of chopsticks, and Jiang Qin thanked them. Zhan Lue suddenly glanced sideways and teased him, “What’s wrong with you today? Why are you suddenly so formal?”

“There are women here.” Jiang Qin’s gaze drifted subconsciously to the injury on Zhan Jin’s forehand and he said casually, “Is Sixth Princess’ injury better?”

Zhan Jin was shocked and replied softly, “Thank you for the Little General’s concern. I’m much better.”

The Jiang Family was renowned for its long line of legendary generals. Jiang Qin’s father was the famous General Wu An. However, as he was growing old, he passed on his power to the younger generation. He gave birth to Jiang Qin at an old age. Jiang Qin grew up as an extremely favoured child. Although he was only a Lieutenant General by Zhan Lue’s side, everyone was used to calling him “Little General”.

Jiang Qin nodded. Zhan Yin suddenly frowned and asked weirdly, “Since when were you familiar with A-Jin?”

Jiang Qin wanted to say something, when Zhan Jin explained before him, “I was injured a few days ago and fainted. It was Little General who brought me to the doctor.”

“Oh, so…”

“I’d like to give Little General a toast.” Zhan Jin interrupted her again. With a smile, she lifted her cup and passed it to him. Jiang Qin was momentarily stunned and had no choice but to drink it.

Jiang Qin was also an unrestrained man. He spoke humorously and Zhan Yin was so tickled that she could not stop laughing. Xian Sheng’s body was unwell and could not drink alcohol, so he drank more cups of tea instead.

After the meal, Zhan Lue brought Jiang Qin to the study room for a talk. Xian Sheng sent Zhan Yin and Zhan Jin out of the courtyard. He could sense that Zhan Jin wanted to say something, but she remained silent in the end. She entered the carriage and left with Zhan Yin.

In the room, after they have finished discussing official matters, Zhan Lue suddenly asked Jiang Qin, “A-Jin didn’t follow you to the doctor that day, right?”

“Well…” Jiang Qin’s expression was hesitant, as if he was still conflicted about something.

Zhan Lue looked through him immediately and said, “A-Jin had always disliked seeing the doctor. She had some medical knowledge so for minor injuries, she would just cure herself. It’s logical that she did not follow you to the doctor.”

“So that’s how it is.” Jiang Qin did not conceal it further and said, “Soon after you left, she woke up. After knowing that I wanted to bring her to the doctor, she said that it was unnecessary. I could only send her back to the palace. Before entering, she even told me to keep it a secret.”

“Her habit is quite odd.”

Jiang Qin was unsure too. However, after reporting to him, he bowed and said, “I’ll take my leave now.”

“The road is slippery in this snowy weather. Be careful.”

Zhan Lue watched as he left. He stood up and walked back to the room. Just as he entered the room, he saw Xian Sheng sitting at the table coldly. The plate of “Jade Goddess Breast-enlarging Pastry” was still placed on the table.

“Everyone has already left. Shouldn’t Your Highness tell me the real purpose of this pastry now?”

Zhan Lue walked over slowly and sat down in front of Xian Sheng. Propping his chin up with his hand, he praised, “The princess is becoming more and more beautiful recently.”
