Adventure Lover

“Welcome.”

I held my phone up to the reading device at the entrance of the store, and the door opened, welcoming me with a robotic electronic voice.

The Shinjuku branch of the association-certified Explorer’s store, ‘Adventure Lover’, was bustling as usual.

A group of young men were looking at me and muttering to each other. I stood out a bit because I had been coming and going in and out of the Shinjuku Dungeon with a cooler box for the past month or so.

I walked through the large store and went to a corner sheltering a glass case.

Magic pouches, skill orbs, and other weapons with special effects were on display, and a stern shopkeeper met me with a glare.

“I want a magic pouch.”

“Do you finally feel like spending money?”

In the past month, I had become acquainted with this stern shopkeeper. I have been coming here every day to sell my cobalt crystals. For items that were difficult to sell to acquaintances, such as ores, the quickest way was to sell them to an association-certified store.

“So, how big do you want it to be? If you’re going to buy one, I’d recommend you start with a large capacity pouch.”

“How much can this 15 million pouch fit?”

“It can hold 600 liters. That’s three barrels.”

“What about this 200 million pouch?”

“This one has a capacity of 1,000 liters, but it has a time stop function. If you put food in it and forget about it, it won’t rot.”

“That would be a fantasy.”

“Yup, that’s a new one on the market.”

The clerk raised his eyebrows and exhaled.

“I can tell. Sell me this 15 million pouch.”

“Thank you. I guess this means no more cooler boxes.”

“Yeah, it’s become quite conspicuous.”

“There’s a rumor going around that you have the blessing of the Fishing God.”

“If that was true, I’d be at the ocean or the river.”

“Do you know? Most of the Setouchi Dungeons are located in the ocean.” (T/N: ‘Setouchi’ is the inland sea located in southern Okayama Prefecture, Japan.)

“Is the conquest going well?”

“No, not at all.”

“I know right.”

“It looks like only those with the blessings of the God of the Sea can go.”

“Are there many with such blessings?”

“I’ve heard there are a fair number of fishermen, but there aren’t many young fishermen to begin with.”

“You mean old people don’t go to dungeons?”

“That’s right. There are still a certain number of people who don’t believe in the existence of dungeons.”

“They’ll believe it when their grandchildren are born with skills.”

“You’re right. By the way, don’t you need a skill orb?”

“I’m going to the fifth floor now. I’ll buy one after that.”

“We’ll see about that with your sloppy skills when you come back crying to buy one of my rare skill orbs.”

“Die.”

“But you’re a solo explorer, right? Are you sure you can handle it without any skills? Did you know that it’s a passing theory that the very first floor boss only takes on a party?”

“That’s all right. I’m thinking about how to handle it alone.”

Yeah, I was thinking about it a lot.
