I See The Galaxy Chapter 3

Director Zhou sternly lectured Yu Xing for what seemed like an eternity. Several times, she had to hold herself back from telling him "I didn't write that love letter!"

At that time, she was busy eating at the restaurant, so she didn't have time to cause trouble.

She didn't write it, yet it was there. What could she say?

Not even two months since she had entered the school, and she was already being scolded. Yu Xing internally sighed; although she had tried to stay out of trouble, it had found her regardless.

Even if it was embarrassing to have the whole school know of her disgrace, writing a thousand word reflection was no big problem. But that damned love letter had to be posted on the notice board outside the building for a week!

Yu Xing worried about it as she exited the office.

With deep sadness, she obediently posted the letter onto the board with double-sided tape.

When she went to return after posting the love letter, Director Zhou had already gone upstairs for a meeting. Although she thankfully did not have to see his bottom-of-the-barrel face, Yu Xing did not feel any better after.

Exiting the office again, Yu Xing stopped in front of the notice board.

Yu Xing frowned as she read over the love letter.

She read it carefully a second time, lips pursed.

She read it carefully a third time, then a fourth time…

Yu Xing couldn't bear it any longer. She retrieved a pen from her left pocket, took a step closer to the wall, and raised her pen to correct the love letter.

It was a letter of confession, but it only seemed to confess a lack of language proficiency– there were two misspelled words, one and a half wrong English words, and three uses of incorrect punctuation.

It was too much for her to ignore.

As she corrected the mistakes, she thought to herself: how could she possibly have written something so bad? Furthermore, it was found thrown aside in a corner, but it was still posted on a notice board. How could Director Zhou think this was reasonable…

When Director Zhou crossed her mind, Yu Xing cautiously looked around under the bright yellow streetlight in fear of being discovered. After quickly finishing her corrections, she put away her pen and walked quickly towards the school building.

Not even a few steps later, a long and dark shadow appeared on the ground. Yu Xing paused, looking up to see a group of boys walking head-on towards her. She hastily glanced at them, not daring to look at their faces, and quickly lowered her head and sped up her pace.

Considering that they didn’t have an evening self-study session and were walking languidly through the school, they were probably seniors.

If not for her fear of looking like a walking plank, Yu Xing felt like she could speed up even more and join a speed walking contest.

As she came nearer to the group of suspected seniors, a man in front looked at her and said, "Yu Xing? Isn’t she..."

At that moment, Yu Xing really wanted to scrape the words off her badge. Her senior’s eyes must have been incredible to be able to read her name when it was this dark outside!

What was even scarier is that the seniors seemed to want to talk to her.

Yu Xing simply crossed her heart, gave up on walking, and ran away–

What was that? The seniors were calling her? The wind was so strong that she couldn’t hear them!

What? Why was she running so fast? Naturally she was in a hurry to get back to class– learning was calling and she definitely had to answer!

Yu Xing darted towards the sophomore school building in the blink of an eye.

Shen Shiyu almost jumped, confused at what happened. “She ran so fast…”

He was just about to call out to her, but before he could say anything, she was gone.

Still, he didn’t forget to tease his friend. "The standards of this girl who wrote you a love letter are debatable, but she doesn’t seem to be too bad at sports.”

"Do you know why she ran so fast?" In lieu of an answer, Sheng Yi turned his head slightly and asked him another question.

Shen Shiyu didn’t get what he meant. "Hmm?"

Sheng Yi smiled at him. “Because you’re ugly.”

Shen Shiyu: "...???"

Jiang Zhiyan stifled a laugh, walking faster to catch up with Sheng Yi.

Shen Shiyu was dissatisfied.

How was he ugly? There were so many girls who had a crush on him! If he was considered ugly, then ninety-eight percent of the boys in Lin Tian would be ashamed enough to throw themselves into a lake and drown!

Shen Shiyu followed the two of them, ready to start an argument. “I’m not…”

Before he could say another word, they were already outside of the teacher’s office building.

There was something posted on the bulletin board.

“What’s that?” Shen Shiyu perked up. Earlier, he’d seen Cheng Yi’s little fangirl tinkering with it, so he hurried over to see what she had done.

Jiang Zhiyan also went over to look.

The entire group walked over leisurely as if they just were casually hanging out, not bothering to hurry.

Seeing them both going over, Sheng Yi, bored, walked over slowly as well.

The boys who had followed them kept a distance from him, unlike Shen Shiyu and Jiang Zhiyan.

Shen Shiyu was having a good day. He’d found something interesting, and it was even related to Sheng Yi!

As soon as Sheng Yi approached them, Shen Shiyu cleared his throat and read dramatically:

"Senior Sheng Yi, hello! I am Yu Xing of Year 2 Class 3 and I have loved you for so long! I really, really like you! I fell deeply in love with you the moment I met you, and I couldn’t stop thinking about how handsome you are."

After a moment's pause, Shen Shiyu continued to exaggerate the contents of the letter. "Did you know that I think about you every day? Oh, senior, you’re my heaven and my dream! I love you, I love you, I love you..."

Sheng Yi calmly listened to Shen Shiyu's theatrical re-creation of the letter and smiled. "If your eyes are not working, you should gouge them out and replace them with glass."

Shen Shiyu stopped and sneered at him. “I didn’t think she was vivid enough, so I helped her embellish it.”

There were several scribbled corrections on the paper. Jiang Zhiyan interjected, "There aren’t many words in this love letter, but there are many mistakes."

Shen Shiyu looked closer. “Yeah, looks like it. Tsk, not good enough.”

"She was just sneaking around here, could she be correcting the mistakes?"

"She was correcting her mistakes right on the paper? Is our prince’s status not enough for her to copy her corrections onto a new paper? How careless of her…”

They talked among themselves, holding a serious discussion.

Sheng Yi was the involved party, but instead it seemed like he was an observer sitting in. He raised an eyebrow. "Are you done talking? Do you want to set up a tent and spend the night here talking? If you aren’t done, I’ll leave already."

“Ah... we’re done, we’re done!”

Shen Shiyu and Jiang Zhiyan hurriedly collected themselves and stopped making trouble.

The group continued to walk towards the parking lot.

Shen Shiyu secretly glanced at Sheng Yi's expression, but he really didn't care. Even Jiang Zhiyan would follow along with a joke, but Sheng Yi was completely uninterested in playing along.

Still, it wasn’t as if they were unfamiliar with each other, so he was used to his temperament.

How could Sheng Yi be interested in these sorts of things?

Out of the three of them, he looked like the easiest one to get along with, but in truth, Sheng Yi was the most anti-social, arrogant, and uncaring of them all.

Like those fangirls who used to make every effort to attract his attention, Yu Xing was similarly destined to fail.

Shen Shiyu simply shrugged and stopped thinking about it.

Yu Xing was panting as she ran back from the teacher’s office, and once she entered the classroom, she was immediately heckled. "Yo, isn't this Yu Xing, our class celebrity?"

Laughter began to spread in their classroom, though less than thirty people were inside.

She was already mentally prepared for this, so she just walked to her seat with her head down.

Two boys were sitting in the back using their phones, and when they caught sight of her walking towards them, they said sarcastically:

“I thought you were shy and quiet, I couldn’t tell that you actually had such high ambitions.”

"Don’t they say that poor people have high ambitions? If you’re poor, you have to aim for the best.”

“...”

Qiu Huini saw that she was as silent as a ghost and kicked the foot of her table, "Hey, they’re talking to you!"

Yu Xing turned her head blankly. "Huh?"

Qiu Huini was impatient. “What’re you sounding so confused for?"

Xia Yuanqing mocked her, "The whole school knows about the love letter you wrote to Sheng Yi, what are you going to do?” She pretended to look concerned, but her eyes were smiling maliciously. "Why didn’t you tell us? We’re in the same class, we could have helped you write it!"

Yu Xing was silent.

Help her write it? As if.

She wasn’t stupid. This whole thing was just for their own amusement. This Class 3, and even Lintian as a whole, they all despised and looked down on her. Whatever way you looked at it, these rich kids were just trying to mock her, the outsider.

One of the boys interjected, “Forget it! You’ve seen her; if even I don’t like her, what more Sheng Yi? Her ambitions have really rotted her brain!”

The other boy laughed. “Yeah, ugly people shouldn't make trouble– the more troublesome they are, the more annoying they are, don't you know?"

Qiu Huini and Xia Yuanqing said to them, "Hey, don’t speak so harshly to girls." However, the corners of their mouths were curled up and they couldn't stop smiling.

Amidst their mockery, Yu Xing sat up straight and silently opened her book.

Their words went into one ear and out the other.

It didn’t matter. Their bad impressions of her were returned in kind.

Class 3 called her deplorable, she called them 24K dumbasses.

Since the love letter incident, Yu Xing drew strange looks whenever she walked around school. She eventually had to take off her badge, only wearing it during morning reading sessions, class meetings and other occasions when their teachers were present, and then took it off and put it in her jacket pocket afterwards.

Whether good or bad, the incident had finally passed.

That weekend, she was looking forward to her day off. She returned home early and stayed there the whole day, accompanying her aunt who had taken a special leave from her work.

As the sun set that evening, her aunt, Yu Wanzhen, reminded her, “Aren’t you going to go celebrate Qiuqiu’s birthday with her? You should go get ready.”

Yu Xing looked up, nodding. She washed the two mugs she used in the afternoon, set them on the drying rack, and went back to her room to change her clothes.

Su Qiu's birthday was not that day, but she had waited for Yu Xing to be on leave before celebrating.

Yu Xing changed into a long-sleeved t-shirt and wore a light-colored jacket, and hopefully it would be enough to keep warm. She was too lazy to change her skirt, but Lintian’s skirt was a plain brown and looked similar enough to a regular skirt.

She always wore her school uniform according to the dress code, and after wearing it for a long time, she thought that the skirt was quite convenient, as it was durable and easy to wear.

Yu Wanzhen thought she was dressed too plainly. “Why don’t you wear something brighter?”

Yu Xing laughed. “This is more comfortable.”

Seeing as she did not wear her usual ugly glasses, Yu Wanzhen was slightly satisfied. "Good, you’re not wearing those things. Your eyesight isn’t that bad, why do you always wear them? I bought you smaller ones and you don't want them, why do you like those…”

Yu Wanzhen looked at her for a few seconds and pulled her down to sit. "Sit down, I'll braid your hair."

"Auntie, I-"

"Don't move."

Yu Xing couldn’t argue.

Yu Wanzhen held her hair, parting her thick and long bangs and separating her hair into three long strands. Then, from top to bottom, she braided them all into one neat flower braid.

Her hair wasn’t too long, falling a little over her shoulders, and the other side hung down to slightly cover her cheeks, but it didn’t block her face.

Yu Xing wanted to refuse at first, but it was rare for Yu Wanzhen to be so happy, so she sat still and let her do her hair.

In order to live out her school life peacefully in Lintian, she had gotten used to dressing roughly over the past month.

Today, on Su Qiu's birthday, she had originally planned to only dress up a little, but seeing her aunt so happy, she felt that nothing else was important.

Yu Wanzhen worked for a while, and once she saw Yu Xing's face that had not seen the light of day finally uncovered for once, she was satisfied. "Alright, that looks good. Have fun and be safe."

Yu Xing hugged her aunt before she went out, holding her recently received pocket money.

Su Qiu had already met up with her classmates, so Yu Xing went to the agreed meeting place to find them.

As soon as they met, Su Qiu hugged her. Yu Xing inhaled her familiar scent, and before she could speak, Su Qiu rubbed her neck.

"A-Yu, you smell good."

"It itches." Yu Xing laughed and pulled away. "No, of course not."

Su Qiu had always been a little more lively than her since they were younger; though she was not particularly restrained, she was very gentle.

Releasing her, Su Qiu introduced her friends. "You already know a few of them–"

This wasn’t the first time they met, so they all greeted each other.

"You haven’t met these two, they just joined our class this semester." Su Qiu pointed to two new faces and introduced them. "This is Yu Xing."

Yu Xing nodded. "Nice to meet you guys."

The two boys meeting her for the first time suddenly became shy. One was fine; though he was internally blushing, he was still outwardly calm.

The other was more affected.

In Yu Xing’s direct line of sight was a handsome and gentle-looking boy, who instantly turned bright red and choked on his words.

“H-hello!”

The girl in front of them had white and clear skin with an oval face, a small red mouth, and a coquettish and delicate nose, and her eyes, what did they look like... Like obsidian, yes, as if a sea flooded with light, glittering and radiant as a star.

When she looked over at them with such bright eyes, people’s breath inexplicably caught in their throats and they couldn’t help but panic.

Today, when they accompanied Su Qiu to celebrate her birthday, they knew that they would pick up another one of Su Qiu’s friends on the way.

The two boys who had never seen her before were interested when they heard the others mentioning her and couldn't help but ask questions. At that time, Su Qiu was in the convenience store buying something, so they were waiting at the door.

The boy who was most familiar with Su Qiu said, "Su Qiu's friend looks… Ahem, she’s quite good-looking."

Another girl also said, "And she’s very nice and cute."

At that time, they thought it was just another good-looking girl. Since Su Qiu was one of the prettiest girls in their year and they had become close friends, they had gotten used to good-looking girls.

Now that they thought about it, the light coughing mixed in with the "good-looking" was not them flattering her, it was them being embarrassed!

The boy who suddenly started stuttering earlier internally spat at himself for his poor performance, and he couldn't help but steal a glance at Yu Xing’s face, so nervous that his palms were sweating.

This was not just ‘quite good-looking’?

This was too fucking gorgeous!

Translator's Note:

yu xing cares about two (2) people at the start of this novel and she's honestly so relatable for that. if it's not su qiu or her aunt she doesn't even bother acting nice.

also the hair-doing part of this chapter genuinely made me confused, my hair's always been too short to braid so when i was trying to translate how her aunt was doing her hair i had to look up a wikihow article on how braiding hair works, ~the more you know~
