Chapter 42

The refrigerator door opened. Fresh air finally poured in but Lin Yi didn’t know how to breathe it in. The light from the kitchen stung Lin Yi’s eyes; it hurt but Lin Yi didn’t dare close his eyes to avoid this light he’d finally regained. He’d gone on a limb using the name ‘Linlin’ to stimulate the woman in red, but Lin Yi hadn’t been sure how exactly it would provoke the woman.

He’d been in the refrigerator, forced to maintain his twisted position for too long and now he could barely even move a finger.

Although NPCs would only kill people at night, if him using this name provoked the woman too much, getting hit or being stabbed somewhere non-vital was still quite possible.

Lin Yi had to ensure that he could still walk. He needed to stop Ou Ying from doing a Replay with Qin Zhou as soon as possible.

So Lin Yi deliberately opened his eyes to see. Sure enough, just as he had guessed, the woman in red was furious. Her arm muscles were spasming, causing the kitchen knife she held in her hand to shake. The light shone against the blade, causing cold pinpricks of light.

Lin Yi could see that the woman in red was dying to stab him to death.

“I’m Linlin’s… tool for conveying a message.” Lin Yi added the second half of the sentence and he said, voice hoarse, “Linlin left a message with me to give to you.”

After Lin Yi finished speaking, he fell silent. He didn’t dare to say anything else. More talk, more mistakes. He was afraid of provoking the woman in red too much lest she close refrigerator door again.

His whole body was paralyzed. If the woman in red closed the refrigerator door, he could only watch helplessly. He didn’t even have the strength to call for help.

The woman in red stared fixedly at Lin Yi. Her chest was heaving nonstop as if she was suppressing some kind of emotion. After a long time, enough time that Lin Yi had gotten to breathe fresh air into his lungs and his brain had restarted, the woman in red calmed down a little.

Her gaze, however, was still firmly fixed on Lin Yi, using a of resentful kind of gaze to gouge out the man stuffed in the refrigerator.

“What is it?”

He’d been waiting for these words. Lin Yi was relieved and the tension in his chest loosened. He opened his mouth and said something softly.

The sound was so soft that Lin Yi himself couldn’t even hear what he said, let alone the woman in red. And so, she repeated, “What is it!”

Lin Yi repeated his old trick. The woman in red stared at him and then stepped forward and dragged him out of the refrigerator.

Now out of that narrow and oppressive space, Lin Yi slumped on the ground like mud. He could even clearly feel the blood resuming its flow though his veins, along with the pinprick-like sensation as feeling slowly returned to his limbs.

“What is it!” The woman in red glared at Lin Yi and asked for the third time.

Lin Yi now had the strength to raise his voice. He said, “I’ll tell you tomorrow.”

Seeing that the woman in red made to rasise her knife, Lin Yi hurriedly said, “This is what she said, I’m not lying to you. Otherwise, how would I know her name? Besides what would be the point of me hiding what she said from you?”

The woman in red stared at Lin Yi. After a while, she said softly, “You stole my photo.”

“I don’t know what photo you’re talking about.”

Lin Yi said, “…If you don’t believe me then search me.”

The woman in red stared at Lin Yi, then knelt down to search him.

At the same time, on the second floor of the villa.

Chen Jinnan and Zhou Gan had their hearts in their throats. Although they’ve been members of the student union for several years, this was their first time in a Rule World and it just had to be the more-than-a-decade long unresolved 2-6 Rule World.

The two of them always thought that as long as they figured out the main line of the Rule World, they would be able to leave here safely. They hadn’t expected that they’d need to find the 2-6 Monster and perform a Replay. The slightest mistake or ambiguity in the main line they presented would mean death.

Before that, they’d never heard about Monsters possessing one among them. They’d just been briefed about the situation and now they were going with Ou Ying to perform the Replay.

Making the entire thing more difficult was that the 2-6 Monster was the person that Chen Jinnan and Zhou Gan had always considered their pillar, Qin Zhou.

“Ou Ying Jie.” Chen Jinnan called out.

When Ou Ying turned her head, Chen Jinnan said, “How about…”

Ou Ying said, “You can also just wait for me here.”

Right now, they were on the second floor corridor, a few meters away from Qin Zhou’s room. Originally, the three of them had discussed going into Qin Zhou’s room together; Ou Ying was in charge of doing the Replay and the two of them would wait behind her.

This was to prevent Qin Zhou from suddenly killing Ou Ying before she could even open her mouth to initiate the Replay.

Seeing that Ou Ying misunderstood, Chen Jinnan quickly said, “Ou Ying Jie, you misunderstood. That’s not what I wanted to say. I was going to say, why don’t I do the Replay? I speak fast and if there’s any accident then Ou Ying Jie, you can jump in. If something were to happen to you, we’d probably have no idea what to do.”

Zhou Gan suppressed the tension in his heart, nodded and said, “That’s right.”

Because she’d mistaken Chen Jinnan as being afraid, Ou Ying first apologized to him. She then said, “I’ll do the Replay.”

The Replay wasn’t as simple as telling the ins and outs of the main line of the Rule World to the 2-6 Monster. In the end, the Replay was all guesswork based on the clues they’d found. During the Replay process, the Monsters will inevitably catch loopholes. If the Replay-er didn’t supplement the information in time, the Replay would fail.

Seeing Ou Ying’s insistence, Chen Jinnan and Zhou Gan looked at each other and stopped trying to persuade her. Ou Ying continued to walk towards Qin Zhou’s room with Chen Jinnan and Zhou Qian following right behind her.

Arriving at Qin Zhou’s room, Ou Ying took a deep breath and raised her hand to knock.

At the first knock, there was no sound in the room. It wasn’t until Ou Ying’s third knock, that Qin Zhou’s voice came from within.

“Who is it?”

Ou Ying slightly shook her head at Chen Jinnan and Zhou Gan, signaling them not to panic. Then Ou Ying said, “Zhou Ge, it’s me.”

The room was quiet for a while and then Qin Zhou’s voice came once again, “I told you not to approach me. Didn’t Little Genius tell you?”

Qin Zhou’s words reminded Ou Ying of the law of firm belief.

The law of firm belief, once you’ve have established what something is, you will feel more and more that that is what something is. When Ou Ying learned from Lin Yi that Qin Zhou was the 2-6 Monster, it was as though she could spot more evidence to back it up.

In this context, it was more appropriate for Qin Zhou to directly call Lin Yi by his name, rather than ‘Little Genius’.

Ou Ying suppressed the emotions in her heart and said as calmly as possible, “I have something to tell you, it’s very important. Zhou Ge, please open the door first.”

There was a moment of silence in the room and then footsteps were heard.

Chen Jinnan and Zhou Gan’s nerves immediately tensed because of this sound. With a ‘kachak’ the door unlocked.

Their tension rose to new heights.

“What’s the matter?” Qin Zhou stood by the door, looking at the three outside.

Ou Ying walked in and Qin Zhou made no more to stop them from entering. After the three of them entered the room, Qin Zhou set his sights on the three of them, excitement flashed in his eyes.

“Zhou Ge, you are the 2-6 Monster…” Ou Ying said and she saw Qin Zhou staring at her, “Whether this is true or not is a matter for later discussion.”

Qin Zhou frowned and Ou Ying continued, “Zhou Ge, Lin Yi is missing.”

Behind Ou Ying, Chen Jinnan and Zhou Gan were stunned. They didn’t know why Ou Ying suddenly changed the plan.

Qin Zhou looked at Ou Ying, his furrowed brows instead of smoothing flat tightened even more. “What do you mean by missing?”

“I mean it literally.” Ou Ying said, “Lin Yi said that he accidentally dropped the thermometer on the first floor of the villa last night. He was worried we would inhale the mercury so once the sun rose, he went to deal with it alone. But he never came back.”

Qin Zhou asked, “Didn’t you look for him?”

“At first, Cheng Yang and I searched but we couldn’t find him.” Ou Ying asked, “Zhou Ge, could something have happened to Lin Yi?”

Qin Zhou said, “Where did you and Cheng Yang search?”

“Cheng Yang and I searched in the kitchen and every shared bathroom on all three floors. But Lin Yi’s nowhere to be found.” Ou Ying said, “Lin Yi didn’t even show up for the Anke game. Zhou Ge, didn’t you notice that Lin Yi had been absent during the Anke game?”

Qin Zhou paused and said, “The lights were turned off. I couldn’t tell.”

Ou Ying nodded, as if agreeing with Qin Zhou’s explanation. She then said, “After the Anke game was over, I asked Cheng Yang, Su Tianle and Li Dang to look for him again and the three of us came to ask your opinion about this situation.”

Qin Zhou: “I see.”

Ou Ying: “En.”

After a while, Qin Zhou asked, “That’s all? Nothing else?”

Ou Ying said: “That’s all, nothing else.”

Qin Zhou stared at Ou Ying, his expression sank a little.

Ou Ying said, “Zhou Ge, where do you think Lin Yi is?”

Qin Zhou didn’t speak and just kept staring at Ou Ying. After a long time, he said, “This villa is only so big. Lin Yi can’t go out so he must be somewhere here.”

“You’re right.” Ou Ying nodded: “Then we’ll keep looking.”

After saying so, she said to Chen Jinnan and Zhou Gan, “Let’s go find Lin Yi.”

The confrontation with Qin Zhou ended here. Ou Ying quickly left the room. She turned her head to urge Chen Jinnan and Zhou Gan. “What are you still doing there?”

“Oh, coming.” Chen Jinnan and Zhou Gan quickly followed.

Ou Ying walked away without looking back, Chen Jinnan walked quickly to Ou Ying’s side and asked in a low voice, “Ou Ying Jie, don’t you want to do the Replay? Why did you say that instead?”

Zhou Gan also caught up and asked, “Ou Ying Jie, is Zhou Ge not the 2-6 Monster?”

Chen Jinnan said, “Zhou Ge doesn’t look much like the 2-6 Monster.”

Although the two of them couldn’t relax, they secretly paid attention to Qin Zhou when Ou Ying and Qin Zhou were talking. They hadn’t noticed anything unusual about Qin Zhou.

“He is.” Ou Ying didn’t stop but she couldn’t quite maintain her calm expression. “There’s a problem with the main line.”

Both Chen Jinnan and Zhou Gan were stumped. Chen Jinnan hurriedly made to ask but Ou Ying said first, “Letting us do the Replay is a trap set by the 2-6 Monster.”

“A…trap?” Zhou Gan was taken aback. “Ou Ying Jie, how did you find out it was a trap?”

The conversation between Ou Ying and Qin Zhou was three minutes at most. How did she figure out it was a trap in such a short amount of time?

“Let’s talk once we get far from here.” Ou Ying realized that Zhou Gan was about to look back and she quickly stopped him. “Don’t look back.”

But she was a step too late, Zhou Gan didn’t look back but Chen Jinnan did.

Behind them, Qin Zhou had gotten out o
