Chapter 48— Equipment and Materials

"Here it is. I also store the fangs of the big boars here."

Gran, a traveler who came to the village.

According to him, the wild boars I defeated can be used as materials for weapons.

So, I immediately took Gran-san to the warehouse where the boars' fangs were stored.

"Hmm, excuse me, desu."

After saying that, Gran-san, who came into the warehouse following me, heads for the targeted fangs.

Not saying a word, he gently reached for a fang on the shelf.

Gran-san treated it as if he were dealing with precious antiques.

His actions kind of look like an appraisal team's that I saw in my previous life.

"They're wonderful. It's true that they're the fangs of magical creatures. Moreover, it seems that they were taken from boars that could use mana and killed while the boars were channeling that mana. I know this because I feel the remnants of magical power."

"Remains of magical power? Is there any merit in that?"

"That's right, Ars-kun. If possible, when hunting an animal that uses magic, it's easy to get good materials by killing creatures while they're using that magic. Then, when you use its materials for weapons, the path of magic power will be different desu. "

"Then, the fangs of the wild boars here can be used to make strong weapons, right?"

"That's right, but it's not always possible to fulfill Ars's wishes ..."

"What? Why? You mean you can't make weapons for me?"

"I'm not saying that because I'm mean. I need some equipment and catalyst to use the materials of magical creatures as weapons. I'm sorry that I can not make it because this village does not have them, desu."

"Equipment and catalyst? What do you need?"

"That's right. I need a furnace that can withstand high heats and a catalyst that is the magical nucleus of magical creatures."

"I understand the first need, but what is a magical nucleus?"

"A magical nucleus is a body part that a magical creature needs to have to be able to use magic. Since each creature needs different parts, I can't explain the nucleus in one word. However, all of them are rare. It's hard to get them, desu. "

So it seems that is the part of the body for magical creatures needed to use magic.

When I heard Gran-san's story, I immediately got an enlightment.

It's the horns of my Familiars, the Valkyries.

Valkyrie and the others can use magic, and cutting off the horns makes it impossible for them to use magic.

I don't know if they're a magical creature species, but I'm sure their horns have the same characteristics as the magical nucleuses.

I immediately ran around the warehouse, picked up the horns of the Valkyries that had been piled up in a corner of the warehouse, and showed them to Gran-san.

"Won't these be a substitute for the magical nucleus? If so, only the high-temperature furnace will be the problem ..."

"... These are very surprising, desu."

Looking at the horns of the Familiars that I handed over, Gran-san showed a surprised expression.

Then, immediately returned his face to its original expression and start observing the Valkyries horns as if to bite into some delicious steak.

When he thought he had seen the surface for long enough, Gran-san touched every corner of the horn with his hands and kept looking as if he would do so until there was a hole in it.

"I can only say this, but I think that one of these can be used as a catalyst in replacement of a magic nucleus, desu."

"After all. I thought so, too."

"Maybe this horn is from the Familiars in this land?"

"That's right. You understood."

"I've heard such a story while coming here. There are species that can use magic among the beasts, and there is a place to procure magic nuclei stably by taking out the magic nuclei. No way... in this village. I didn't expect to see such a place, desu. "

"Wait a minute. Are there any beasts that can use magic?"

"That's right. You didn't know it, desu? Familiars are treated as a super-luxury item."

 I can't believe it.

Did the peddler not even know this?

Does that mean they're too cheap to sell at the current price?

 This requires price negotiations again.

If he were intentionally hiding the information, I might want to rethink my future relationship with the peddler-ojisan*. (TLN: Ojisan= uncle)

"I was saved. I didn't know that at all. I heard good things from you."

"Well, that's right. I hope I have helped Ars."

"And it would be nice if there was a furnace that could produce high temperatures, right?"

"Strictly speaking, we need other materials and tools, but anyway, a furnace is indispensable. No way, is there also such a furnace in this village?"

"No, I don't think so, so I'll try to make it."

I don't know how many times they can withstand being used at high temperatures.

However, the bricks I make are not just the type made by baking clay, but should be heat-resistant bricks that can withstand higher temperatures than usual.

When I first made bricks with magic, I made them with that in mind.

I don't know how much they actually have a heat-resistant effect.

But let's make a furnace out of those bricks.

With the chance to get a weapon(s), my motivation went up higher than the ceiling.

T/N: Howdy, guys! (AND GALS!) xD

Ya, so I was on a break from Scribble Hub the past month, and in that span of time, I did work and work and more work. Moneey maaakes the wooorld go rooound, after all... xD

I have dropped tl-ing Smartphone, but someone else has picked it up again. I will now devote my time to this (and life of a wizard) again! At the least, I want to have 7 chapters per week here, but I want more than that. I hope you will keep supporting my amature-ish translating!
