Peasant Arc

Chapter 69 [ ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ] - Reunion

I added that Lenny face, BTW.

I cut through the center of the Fontana army, which consisted of about 500 people, and charged forward.

Since the peasant soldiers in the leading group were blown away by me, there were only a small number of people trying to block our path.

Some of the peasants managed to muster up the courage to try and stop me, but I fired off a [Shotgun] to make it impossible for them to get close.

In this way, we approached the armor-clad people in the center of Fontanas' army.

A few of the armoured soldiers formed a group and placed their shields next to each other in a defensive stance.

They seemed to be intercepting us.

I wish I could use the kind of magic that sent large rocks flying towards opponents like the one that defeated Vargas, but that's hard to use it now since I'm moving too fast while mounted.

If that's the case, I'll simply use my Hardened Brick Stick to break down the entire defensive line.

I thought of this, and with the momentum of my rush, I re-invigorated my entire body using mana, strengthened my body, and swung the stick sideways.

The metal shields collided with my stick.

Gakkan.

A deafening sound rang out as the items collided.

The impact was so great that I dropped the stick from my hand.

In a panic, I pulled out my Hard-Fang Sword.

If I had been attacked when I was empty-handed, I might have been in danger.

But it seemed that my assault had been successful.

The armored soldiers, who were on the defensive with their shields up, were not blown away like the peasant soldiers, but the lead soldier was pushed down and needed to be covered by the one behind him due to the impact of my stick hitting him and his shield.

The rest of the armored soldiers managed to only take a few steps back, and hurriedly tried to move to repel it.

The time it took them to do so had caused me to miss my chance.

"They're weak. They're not that strong, these guys." (Baito-nii)

"Don't be silly. The General is just really reckless. It makes them seem weak, no?" (Vargas)

"Don't say that, Vargas-san. They are pretty strong. Now let's go kick some ass." (Ars)

"Ok."

I headed towards the soldiers in armor while talking to Vargas.

They are certainly strong, and their equipment is of good quality.

I think they are many times stronger than those peasant soldiers.

However, there is something about them that is clearly different from me.

It was the quality of mine and their mana.

The armored soldiers clearly had more mana than the peasant soldiers.

But when it came to the quality, or rather the density, of it, they were the same as the peasant soldiers.

A light blue haze of mana that was unconsciously dripping from their bodies.

The amount was large, but that was it.

On the other hand, my mana is completely different from that.

As a result of taking in mana from the air and from the food I eat and mixing it with my own mana in my stomach, it has become a sloppy, viscous liquid.

The difference in the quality of this mana alone seems to make a distinction in our fighting abilities.

There are about thirty armored soldiers, but three of us might be able to get by with just that much.

It might be possible for one of us to defeat ten of them, an unrealistic feat.

It was when I thought that.

"I won't allow any more violence."

This person was a bit behind the several armored soldiers I had pushed down, and was the same one who had accused me of crime earlier.

He was riding a Valkyrie, just like me.

So this guy is the head of this enemy army.

I'm glad you came all the way from the other side to save me the trouble of having to make you come out.

"Long time no see, Ars. How have you been?"

"....... huh? Who are you? I don't know who you are."

Just as I was about to launch my attack, the other man spoke to me.

This caused me to lose my perfect opportunity to attack.

 Who is this guy?

"Hmm, you were too young to remember, I guess? It's me. I'm Raymond, the head of the Fontana family that rules this land."

TLN: Remember back when I was new to translating and couldn't find out if Raymond was a very important butler or the head of the family? Well, it seems he's the head. This doesn't really make a huge difference to the story, because we haven't really seen character interaction involving him for more than a bit of 2 chapters... I still have time to fix the error.

 The head of the Fontanas?

 Raymond?

 There's no way I can't remember him.

I've met him before when I first went into a town.

It's the person who received the Valkyries that were presented to the Fontana family.

The person who suddenly cut off their horns without asking.

And the person who directly granted me the right to own my land.

The man from that time is right in front of me.

Or rather, he was the commander of this army.

Could it be that this guy is the source of all this?

He was in the important position of being the head of the Fontana family, and he even issued a permit with the Fontana family's emblem on it that declared that he would revoke my land.

I'm not sure what to make of it, but I'm sure he planned this.

He even said that I was to blame in the ultimatum he made before the war began.

 Blood rushed to my head.

Whose fault is it that I'm in this mess?

It's all his fault, Raymond's fault!

 It's not my fault.

My nails dug into my hands as I got angrier.

 Blood oozes from my palm.

This feeling was the same as the time when I saw the Valkyries' horns being cut off in front of my eyes, and I could do nothing but endure it.

But it wasn't exactly the same.

Unlike that time, I've gained strength.

I've become strong enough to fight back even against a nobleman.

"Oi, Ars! Look around us! We're surrounded!"

I was so angry that I thought all my blood would gather in my head and break a blood vessel.

My niisan called out to me in a hurry.

It was only when I heard his voice that I became aware of my surroundings.

 I was beaten.

Why had Raymond suddenly approached me?

It was a way to get me angry and buy time for the armored soldiers to surround me as I regained my thoughts.

I foolishly stopped and listened to what Raymond had to say, even though I had the most powerful way to attack him, a mounted ramming attack.

"Shit, General! They're using magic!"

The situation continued to get worse.

The armored soldiers surrounding us were not attacking us with weapons, but with magic.

 Magic attacks.

That's right, I had been caught completely off guard by the overwhelming strength with which they had used against us thus far.

There is magic in this world.

There's nothing that says that magic attacks are the sole property of the soldiers on our side.

Because I use it, I understand how troublesome it is.

The magic attacks were unleashed simultaneously by the armored soldiers surrounding us.

TLN: Welp, things are getting feisty real quick... have a great day.
