42. Don’t abandon me (1)

The Franklin Empire usually asked for the upper Society’s opinions and votes to give the agenda.

It looked pretty democratic.

As a result, Duke Filtmore’s demotion at Ordin was a unanimous decision except for Deon’s vote since it was considered invalid.

*BANG*

The prime minister, sitting at the upper seat next to Joshua, stamped the national seal on the document.

The vote appeared seemingly plausible.

However, the crown prince had bribed most of the people in the conference room so it might as well be called a dictatorship.

“Damn it,” Deon muttered a curse in his seat and straightened his loose posture.

He wanted to reverse this decision somehow.

It didn’t matter even if he would get alienated by his fellow aristocrats once he stayed here.

It also didn’t bother him much that all of his investment was withdrawn and his family’s reputation was ruined.

However, Ariad——

Somehow, he still wanted to stay by her side.

When the sun, which the clouds had covered earlier, showed up, sunlight poured into the window.

Deon frowned as the light shining on the table hit his grey eyes.

His fierce gaze landed on Joshua, who was left alone in the meeting room where all the people had just left.

Deon had no way to turn his game around.

His brain attempted to devise a plan but it hadn’t thought of something smart either.

He only had one plan at the moment.

Deon planned to take a step back for a while and look forward to the future.

In short, he would have to wait and see.

When his eyes met Joshua, who was busy collecting and organizing the documents,  Deon spoke in the silent atmosphere.

“I want to talk to you.”

Joshua rose from his chair and glowered at Deon as if he was a centipede.

He didn’t even respond.

He just turned his back on him, heading for the door.

Then, he slammed it and disappeared.

Deon clenched his molars.

Even if he willed himself to calm down, he would automatically curse the bastard because he deserved it.

Still, Deon didn’t give up and quickly rose from his seat to chase after him.

As he climbed into a waiting carriage in front of the palace, he ordered the footman to chase after the crown prince.

The instant he reached the crown prince’s palace, Deon opened the carriage door and rushed out.

Deon was still cursing as he ran after Joshua who was about to disappear into the building.

“You need to talk to me, son of a b*tch!” His harsh voice rang out.

Then, a familiar woman popped out at the palace’s entrance.

“Joshua! I think a stalker had visited my room!”

As soon as Sohee saw Joshua, she suddenly held out what she had in her hand.

“Look at this!”

In the blink of an eye, the air seemed to freeze starting from the servants and to Deon who was trailing after Joshua.

The delicate painting in the giant canvas was so realistic in highlighting her flesh-colored private parts.

“Oh, there’s a lot of people here!”

So-hee didn’t intend to reveal her nude image in front of so many people.

She just wanted to see Joshua as soon as possible but she had no idea that there were so many people behind.

Her fingertips curled the picture hurriedly in embarrassment.

A thin sigh broke out in front of her.

Hiding his arms behind his back, Joshua said in a low voice. “Everyone, close your eyes.”

So-hee immediately hugged the canvas but she accidentally made eye contact with Deon behind Joshua.

Something was flowing under his nose that stretched sharply like a fine sculpture.

Both of his nostrils were bleeding.

Perhaps due of the embarrassing moment, So-hee’s explanation was lengthy.

“I think someone was watching me while I was taking a walk. Because when I arrived at my room, this painting was already on the bed, and the window was open.”

After grasping her point, Joshua left in a hurry and the painting disappeared in the maid’s hands.

Sohee told her. “That painting is lewd so please burn it until no traces are left.”

As she gave the painting one last glance as it disappeared, goosebumps broke out of her skin.

Left alone in her bedroom, Sohee buried her face in the blanket.

The tableau from earlier suddenly crossed her mind.

Joshua narrowed his gaze, snapping at the sighing bystanders while Deon decorated the grand finale with his double nosebleeds.

“Why do I have to be the shameless one?” So-hee burst into laughter like a mad woman.

The dark memories emerging from her mind halted instantly when she heard a knock.

As she was bending over, Sohee raised her head.

The knock seemed to come from a place where it shouldn’t be, making her feel guilty.

Speaking of the devil.

Sohee knew he would come.

She never uttered his name out loud but the grey-haired predator appeared as soon as she thought of him.

Deon, who just climbed the window without breaking a sweat, sat at the small table next to it.

“How did you get up here?”

“I climbed.” He replied with nonchalance.

The tree had been cut.
