Chapter 30: A Weakness of the Insects

On the edge of the Arctic Circle was the boundary of the polar day, and southward of it existed both day and night.

Lu Zhou was currently experimenting on a dormant insect.

After hearing news that the insect would sleep during the day, he couldn’t sit still and asked for a plane from the head of state to come here with his men and a team of escorts.

At that moment, the insect was wrapped in countless ropes and being lifted and controlled by a large crane.

Lu Zhou’s experiment was very simple. He sent people to constantly drive the insect back and forth to places with and without the sun for a comparison.

The other researchers and guards didn’t know what he was doing.

“Director Lu, what is this experiment we are doing…?”

The deputy director of the Ministry of Scientific Research was a bit puzzled. He wondered what kind of experiment this person who had taken the director’s position at a young age was doing.

Lu Zhou glanced at him and the group of curious people following him, and plainly said: “I’m looking to see whether it is darkness or sunlight that causes the insects to sleep…

“During the experiment, we’ve placed this insect in different environments…

“In areas with sunlight, even indoors and blocked of all visible light, it is still asleep…

“And in areas without sunlight, even with the most radiant and brightest lights shining, it is still very active…

“So, what does that mean?”

The deputy director was flabbergasted: “It means that the insect is afraid of sunlight?”

Lu Zhou shook his head slightly and said: “Yes and no!”

He explained: “We know dark matter exists, but can’t be observed by any human instruments. The reason why we know dark matter exists is because a large number of astronomical observations that violate Newton’s law of universal gravitation can be explained very well under the assumption that dark matter exists.

“And now, dark matter has appeared and directly affected our world…”

After speaking for a while, Lu Zhou found himself off-topic. After coughing, he returned to the main topic: “Since dark matter exists, could there be a light matter? Or what about Yang matter?

“I’ve done the experiments here. Basically, the preliminary judgment is that in the air, there exists a kind of solar matter that cannot be observed by the human eye nor detected by instruments…

“Now let me explain to you in full. We assume that a kind of Yang matter film has always existed in our solar system and is used to isolate dark matter and protect the ecology within the solar system…

“But one day, the creatures within the solar system, while exploring the universe, accidentally broke that film and caused the dark matter that originally filled the universe to infiltrate the solar system at once…

“When sunlight disappears from Earth, these insects, which need to breathe in dark matter, become active, and when the sun rises, the Yang matter drives away the dark matter under the sunlight, causing the insects to fall into deep sleep…”

The deputy director frowned and shook his head. “That’s impossible. How do you explain the spatial channels then?”

His knowledge didn’t allow him to believe that this was true, though he couldn’t find a good way to refute it.

“I can’t explain the spatial channels right now, but I can make a hypothesis. Suppose our universe is double-layered, where one layer is the visible universe where we live and the other layer is the dark universe where the insects live. The dark matter has opened the spatial channels between the two worlds!”

At that moment, the vehicle once again drove into a place where no sunlight shone. The insect in the back of the vehicle once again awoke, twisting and turning its body that was trapped in a pile of ropes.

“Of course, you can also assume that those insects have higher intelligence. They have insects that can open the spatial channels, and this is their operation to invade Earth!”

Lu Zhou paused and the corners of his mouth suddenly raised into a smile. “I think I found one of the insects’ weaknesses!”

He said and shouted to stop the vehicle, before walking to the insect with a large pair of scissors.

“What weakness?” This time, not only were the deputy director and researchers listening carefully, but the guards also followed him closely.

The smile on Lu Zhou’s face suddenly widened as he said: “These insects, identified as dark matter creatures, are as blind as us in darkness in the absence of dark matter!”

Soon after, he used the large scissors and cut the tentacles on the insect’s head.

Snip!

Snip!

After two loud snips, the two tentacles on the side of this insect’s head were cut off by him, and they dropped to the ground.

“These two tentacles are the ‘eyes’ they use to sense the world. Without them, they are blind!”

Sure enough, the insect that was struggling before became motionless after its tentacles were snipped.

After seeing this miraculous scene, everyone subconsciously raised their heads and looked at the sky.

After making sure there was no presence of the sun, everyone got excited.

“This is amazing. Does this mean that if we cut off their tentacles, they’re dead?”

“No, they just can’t see and hear anymore as they think that its nighttime. But once you touch it, it will still put up a fight!”

Saying that, Lu Zhou kicked the insect and as he explained, it struggled again.

Nan Yuan City.

“Damn these insects!”

A police officer stood in front of a sleeping insect and kicked it with his foot as a way to vent his anger.

He lost a few colleagues to the ferocious mouths of these insects the day before.

Chu Zixuan glanced at him and reminded: “I think, you’d better not do that. The insects aren’t dead yet. They are just asleep…”

No one at this side of the world knew what Director Lu Zhou had concluded yet. However, Chu Zixuan knew that every time he sliced the insect’s skull to retrieve the crystal, the insect always awoke!

Sure enough, as soon as he warned, the dormant insect suddenly struggled and lunged at the police officer.

“Watch out!”

The crowd cried out in shock.

Seeing this situation, Chu Zixuan hurriedly focused his spiritual power on the knife and made it fly out quickly.

The moment his spiritual power diffused, he grasped the information of the whole scene in his mind.

However, what surprised him was that Du Gang didn’t have a single reaction.

He didn’t seem to have any intention to transform!

Chu Zixuan had even witnessed the pretense in Du Gang’s panicky expression…

This guy’s too cold-blooded!

At this thought, the knife he controlled with his psychokinesis had just flown into the air and was still some distance away from the insect.

But all of a sudden, a glow lit up. The insect that pounced on the police officer suddenly slowed down.

The police officer saw the opportunity and hurriedly sat down on his buttocks, quickly wriggling to the rear to escape the insect’s attack.

The crowd looked toward the light source and saw the young and beautiful police officer, Su Qi, who had lifted a single finger to the sky. On the tip of her finger was an unusually dazzling brilliance.

The brilliance shone on them and instantly made them feel as if they were comfortably sunbathing.

It was Su Qi who used her supernatural power to save the police officer!
