Chapter 38.2

When their father died, Xu Xingyuan was still young, and after having been ignored and bullied by the Xu family all those years since, he had become a bit eccentric. Now that such a warm person was with him, Xu Xingxing felt happy for him.

After Xu Xingyuan wiped down the tea table, he got ready to start the TV, plugging it into the socket. Zhou Tongtong saw this and said, “Yes, let’s try out the TV. If it doesn’t work, we’ll ask my dad to change it.”

“Okay.” Xu Xingyuan responded as he turned it on. As soon as it was turned on, a piece of news from the entertainment industry started playing.

“Actress Lin Weiyu was arrested by the police at 14:36 today. She got caught taking drugs at a party. A large amount of drugs were also recovered from her home. Lin Weiyu was arrested by the police on the same day. Lin Weiyu made her debut through a talent show and is still active in the entertainment industry. This arrest will have a certain impact on her promotional activities. The most influential one is the IO group. It is reported that because Lin Weiyu is the spokesperson for the latest jewellery cooperation between the IO Group and the German TIE Group, this scandal will cause huge losses to the IO Group, and may even affect the Huai Group.”

Xu Xingxing paused in her actions, staring at the TV screen without moving. After hearing this, Xu Xingyuan looked back at her and asked a question carefully, “Sister, isn’t that your company?”

“Yeah.” Xu Xingxing glanced at him before turning her gaze back to the TV.

                                                                                                                                          ……………………

The board meeting of the Huai Group was being held in the conference room of the building belonging to the Huai group.

Huai Jing’s grandmother, Mrs. Huai was seated at the head of the long table, with Huai Changchao on her left, and Huai Yangping next to him. She looked at the report in her hand, pressed her lips slightly, looked up at Huai Jing at the other end of the conference table, and said in a cold voice, “The board meeting being held today is because of the charges of drug use filed against the IO spokesperson. In front of all these directors, please give everyone an explanation.”

Hearing Mrs. Huai’s words, Huai Jing’s expression remained unchanged as he looked at the report in his hand. Putting it down, he raised his eyes slightly. He then stood up, put his hands on the second button of his suit, and slowly buttoned it up. Standing at the conference table, Huai Jing glanced at the people present and said in a deep voice, “All the directors here are colleagues who have worked with my father for many years. My father is no longer here. I ask everyone to help me seek justice through your love for my father.”

The board of directors looked at each other in blank dismay. Huai Changchao’s expression didn’t change while Huai Yangping’s eyes moved slightly as he glanced at Mrs. Huai.

After hearing Huai Jing’s words, Old Madam Huai’s eyes darkened, and she said coldly, “Huai Jing…”

Huai Jing’s cold gaze silenced his grandmother’s words. “If it causes losses to the group in normal times, I, as the person in charge of IO, cannot escape the responsibility. But this incident was, in fact, a frame-up executed by people inside the group,” he said with a serious expression.

Huai Changchao raised his eyes to look at Huai Jing, sighed and commented, “Huai Jing, your reasoning is too lame. How could people within the group harm IO or even the Huai group’s interests? The people on the board of directors all advance and retreat together.”

Hearing these words, Huai Jing let out a snort and raised his eyes to meet Huai Changchao’s gaze, before finally passing him and landing on Huai Yangping, where he asked, “Yeah, why bro?”

“What’s going on?” The eyes of the people at the scene followed Huai Jing and they all cast their eyes on Huai Yangping.

Surrounded by everyone’s scrutiny, Huai Yangping’s expression tightened, he glanced once at Huai Changchao before calming down and replying, “Huai Jing, don’t talk nonsense.”

“Lin Weiyu was recommended to me by you in the first place.” With light brown eyes staring at Huai Yangping, Huai Jing’s tone was heavy.

After hearing this, the members of the board of directors were in an uproar again.

Huai Yangping raised his eyes to look at Huai Jing, and a hint of ferocity flashed across his originally gentle eyes as he clenched his teeth, tamped down on his anger, and admitted. “Yes, she and my wife are members of the same golf club, and it was my wife who recommended her to me. My relationship with her is just to that extent, I didn’t know that she took drugs.”

Huai Yangping’s answer was impeccable, at which Huai Jing raised his brows slightly and raised his final question, “Then why did you report to the police that she was taking drugs?”

Knowing that Lin Weiyu took drugs and recommending her to Huai Jing as the spokesperson, and then reporting Lin Weiyu’s drug use afterwards, thereby dealing a huge blow to IO…That was really well planned.

When the members of the board of directors heard this, they all understood Huai Jing’s meaning and looked at Huai Yangping, who was now about to stand up in a hurry, but was suppressed by Huai Changchao seated next to him.

Huai Changchao looked at Huai Jing and said, “If it’s true, then I won’t let him go. But you can’t just say anything. Is there any evidence for what you said?”

Huai Jing blinked, looked at Huai Changchao, and called out, “Leo!”

Leo, who was standing outside the door, heard Huai Jing’s voice, and walked in with a black document bag. Standing beside Huai Jing, he first bowed to all the directors present, then opened the file package, took out the information inside and distributed it.

When Mrs. Huai finally got the document, Leo paused, looked at Huai Yangping and said, “This is all the evidence we gathered of Miss Lin’s relationship with Huai Yangping…Ms. Lin and Mr. Huai met at Fayin Bar. A friend of Ms. Lin’s took this photo of Ms. Lin smoking and taking drugs, and Mr. Huai was also in the photo. And that night, the two got a room together at the Fayin Bar. That is to say, even after knowing that Ms. Lin was a drug addict, he recommended her to be the spokesperson for the jewellery collaboration between IO and the TIE Group.

“The house where Ms. Lin was arrested for taking drugs was also given to Ms. Lin by Mr. Huai. This is the place where Ms. Lin and her friends gathered to smoke and take drugs. Mr. Huai has also been in and out of this place. As for whether Mr. Huai has touched drugs, we don’t know. According to Ms. Lin’s assistant, Mr. Huai was supposed to go to that house that night, but for some reason he changed his mind temporarily. But after he changed his mind, the police were dispatched and arrested the inhabitants of the house.

“In addition, when the police took action, reporters were already surrounding the outside completely. Ms. Lin’s house is relatively hidden, and there are no reporters staying in the vicinity. However, when the incident happened, the reporters were present immediately. It is very likely that someone notified them in advance. The whole process of Ms. Lin’s arrest was also broadcast on the Internet and has now spread wildly.” After Leo finished speaking, he put away the materials and stood beside Huai Jing.

While Leo was speaking, Huai Jing had gone back to sitting in his seat, and he now leaned slightly on the back of the chair, his posture lazy as he looked at the directors indifferently and said, “Huai Yangping took advantage of Lin Weiyu’s smoking and drug use to make friends with her, and later recommended her to IO as a spokesperson, while at the same time reporting her drug use right after the launch of IO’s new model. These behaviours indicate that it’s aimed at IO, or it can be said that he wanted to frame me. But whether he came for me, or there is someone else behind him, there are too many things left to conjecture…”
