“Glory to the Eastern Lands.” Count Freya politely greeted Kalix on sight with a bow. On the other hand, Kalix simply responded with an emotionless face and nod. As he finished his greeting to the Duke, Count Greya turned towards Amber. “It is an honor to meet you, Duchess.” Count Freya greeted Amber cautiously.

But Amber’s gaze wasn’t directed to him at all. No, she didn’t have any interest towards Count Freya.

Amber’s complete focus was directed towards the esteemed daughter of Count Freya, who was currently hiding behind the Count.

“I am glad to meet you, Count Freya. And your daughter as well.”

“My name is Lariatte Freya.”

The esteemed daughter of Count Freya, Lariatte, slowly came forward and cutrised slightly while holding the hem of her skirt. ‘So this is Lariatte. This is the child who will find the crucial clue to solving the food crisis and starvation that plagues this land in 8 years.’ The Lariatte of the past had gone to study at the mage’s tower, where she discovered the solution to the food crisis. Because of that, it was the first time Amber actually met her.

Lariatte was quite different than what Amber expected. ‘To achieve such an amazing feat, I thought she would be the cold and level-headed type.’

The Lariatte standing in front of Amber’s eyes was extremely shy and easily frightened. It seemed like she was much more timid than usual, as her face became as red as an apple when she met Amber’s gaze.

‘Whatever, that’s fine. In any case, she is an extremely important individual.’

Even if it wasn’t for Amber’s request, Lariat had been the first citizen of the Eastern Lands to be accepted into the mage’s tower. Her very existence was rare and valuable.

Amber gave Lariatte a bright smile.

Lariatte grew surprised at Amber’s clean smile with little makeup. It was like she never thought that Amber would acknowledge or greet her directly.

“Though the invitation was sent with the Duke’s name on it, it was actually my intention to invite the two of you here.”

Count Freya didn’t seem surprised at Amber’s confession, though neither did he seem relieved.

“If it isn’t too rude, may I ask for the reason behind this invitation? My daughter has not yet debuted in high society. She’s quite shy and timid as well, she wouldn’t be of much use as a lady-in-waiting.”

Amber tilted her head in confusion at Count Freya’s words.

‘Hm? High society? What’s with the topic of maids?’

Though she did need a personal lady-in-waiting, she couldn’t understand why he had suddenly brought the topic up now.

Amber studied the Count Freya who was exhibiting extreme vigilance towards Amber as his hands trembled tightly together.

‘Aha.’

A moment later, a realization struck Amber’s mind.

‘He’s cautious of me since he’s comparing me to Bella.’ Though Amber didn’t know every single thing about the goings on of the Eastern people, she still knew enough. She had lived there for 10 years in her previous life after all.

But right now, the people of the Eastern lands didn’t know about Amber at all. They would naturally come to the conclusion of comparing Amber and Bella. The overall mood of the land was drastically depending on the true lady of the castle.

Count Freya’s mind was running a mile a minute as he carefully studied Amber as much as she could. Whether she was someone who could win against Bella, whether he should just reject her now, whether he should just run.

Though Kalix was also there to take care of the land, Kalix was known for not caring for anything outside the army. The people of the castle would more often than not go to the queen consort for therapy.

Furthermore, the invitation felt unnatural and sudden.

There was more than enough reason for Count Freya to be cautious of Amber.
