Chapter 66 - Long time no see, let me take it in for a little longer =3=

As soon as I calmed down and let my mind relax a little, I unexpectedly drifted off to sleep.

When I woke up again, it was already noon, and I could see flowers dried up on the branches outside the window when I opened my eyes, resting on the vast sea of clouds, with not a sound to be heard anywhere. I was lying on the side of a chinese cedar bed with six golden pillars, the curtains were drawn and blocked half of the room from the sunlight, and the wounds in my body had all been carefully treated and there was only a slight twinge of pain remaining, which was probably due to the top-grade medicine.

Ye Tan sat by the end of the bed, meditating with his eyes closed.

I couldn’t help but feeling very moved: Since Ye Tan came back, my quality of life once again “whooshed” back up to the highest level.

When Ye Tan heard me, he immediately opened his eyes and moved down from the bed, respectfully kneeling in front of the bed and saying: “Master.”

…..This guy, how many times have I told him he doesn’t need to salute, it was so hard to train him properly before, why did he fall back after a few days of not seeing him.

I tried to climb up but was powerless, so I could only lie like a salted fish and ask: “When did I fall asleep….. what is this place?”

Ye Tan answered: “The Ye Residence outside of Changluo, Zhongli Court’s Eldest Young Master’s personal residence. The region between Changluo and Zhongli Court has been endlessly filled with fires and drums1 for several months, and all the large houses in the vicinity have been destroyed, only this place is still intact, so we’re borrowing it for the time being. Everyone in the home now is from One Sword Tomb, its absolutely safe, please recover in peace.”

I wondered: “You said ‘borrowing’.….. would the Eldest Young Master agree?”

“I haven’t seen the Eldest Young Master, but it won’t be too late to ask after I see him, in all likelihood he will give face to One Sword Tomb.” Ye Tan replied, boldly and confidently.

Sigh, this guy, he’s been corrupted by bad examples.

I was thinking about asking about the current situation, but Ye Tan had already opened his mouth to report: “Ye Lan’s injury has already been treated, he’s next door, there are no major issues and currently hasn’t woken up; last night, Ye Xiao went to inform the remaining Henglian people and discuss the rescue and currently hasn’t returned; there are no news about the Second Young Master’s whereabouts, this subordinate sent out a small squad to hide out in the vicinity of Zhongli Court, and there have been no unusual movements for the time being.”

Ye Tan finished speaking in one breath, the paused and spoke again: “As for the matter of helping Yang Qingzhou, this subordinate will do all that I can, but I will absolutely not leave Master and put you in danger….. are there any other questions? Please rest if there is nothing else.”

“En, there’s something.” I shifted to the side of the bed, lifting open a corner of the quilt and reaching for his hand. Upon seeing this, Ye Tan obediently squeezed back. I held his palm, and only then asked, “Weren’t you in seclusion? How did you come out so quickly? Is your body….. alright?”

Ye Tan seemed to be lost in thought, he only answered after a long time: “This subordinate had a dream.”

“A dream?”

Ye Tan slightly lowered his head: “This subordinate dreamt about you.”

I lightly exhaled: “Ai~”

“This subordinate dreamt about the sword washing pond in Tianshan. You were sitting by the side of the lake, wearing black clothes, and invited this subordinate to accompany you for a drink. The snowfall was especially heavy, and you were wearing very thin clothes, but you didn’t seem to be cold at all. You never turned your head, and you never looked at this subordinate, just drank alone, quietly, for the whole night, and spoke once dawn broke: ‘Thank you, my long-cherished wish has been fulfilled. You should go back.’ This subordinate suddenly woke up afterwards.”

The northern wind rolled by outside the window, the withered white grass snapped, and cold clouds froze over the path surrounded by cedars. It seemed like Ye Tan was also somewhat cold, he unconsciously stroked my knuckles and spoke to himself: “The you in my dream….. was really different from normal. This subordinate didn’t like that kind of appearance, fortunately it was just a dream, nothing more.”

That wasn’t really what I thought, so I lightly frowned: “It sounds like the dream was a little sad.”

Ye Tan continued speaking: “After I woke up from the dream, my strength had suddenly increased greatly….. maybe the One Sword Tomb’s methods have really reached perfection, and I achieved double the result with half the effort. On that day, someone delivered a message carrying a bloody fingernail saying you had been trapped in Zhongli Court. The three-month seclusion could only be postponed, and this subordinate broke the sword array to complete it. The only thing is, up until know, I still don’t know who sent the news.”

Ye Tan didn’t say much after finishing his report, returning to his usual silence.

I waved at him: “Come a little closer.”

Hearing this, Ye Tan knelt a little closer, but he was still somewhat far away, and I motioned for him to come closer again and again. I didn’t have the strength to get up, so I could only drag him into my arms by hugging his waist. Ye Tan leaned over, afraid of pressing me down and not daring to exert his force, so he lightly propped himself over me.

I spoke a sentence without heads or tails: “A-Tan, I can use chopsticks.”

Hearing this, Ye Tan quietly looked at me.

“When I first met you, I thought the both of us were about the same, and that sometimes you would still need me to protect you.” After these two months, my feelings had become more and more clear, and I couldn’t help but say, “I didn’t expect….. that you would grow so much faster than me, and I’m afraid that you’ll leave me behind. A-Tan, I’m also improving, you, you need to wait for me…..”

“What are you thinking about.” Ye Tan couldn’t help but laugh.

I hadn’t been able to feel his warmth for two months, and at this moment I could only feel both sour and sweet as I revived the feeling, the corners of my eyes became moist, and I couldn’t help but tighten my hold.

Ye Tan closely spoke next to my ear: “You are what this subordinate has been looking for in life. Whether this subordinate is a shadow guard or a Sect Leader, it has nothing to do with it.”

“Reporting to Sect Leader, shadow guard Ye Xiao asks to see you.” An unfamiliar voice made a report from outside.

Ye Tan didn’t directly answer, looking at me to ask for my opinion.

I nodded, and only then did Ye Tan say: “Come in.”

Ye Xiao hadn’t even come in when he began to cry: “Boo hoo even if Henglian won’t let me in that’s fine, but now I can’t even see Boss without other people having to report it! Why are my days getting worse and worse! I’m so sad are you guys trying to push me out?!”

I laughed: “Hey it really is troublesome. A-Tan you go and tell them, in the future they don’t need to make a report when Ye Xiao wants to come in or out.”

“Boss you still really are the best to me wuh wuh wuh wuh.” Ye Xiao took of his cloak as he came in and shook out the snowflakes from it, when he raised his head to look at us, his expression became stunned.

“Wow, I say, with Boss’ injuries being so serious, aren’t you being a little too impatient, boss2 ?”

Ye Tan and I were both at a loss.

Ye Tan maintained his position of propping himself up over my body, without event he slightest intention of getting up.

Ye Xiao asked me, bewildered: “Boss, won’t your waist hurt?”

I was puzzled: “Why would my waist hurt?”

Ye Xiao hissed as he sucked in a breath: “I wouldn’t have been able to tell you were so strong, ah, Boss, I admire you, I admire you.”

I: “???”

Ye Tan remembered his business, and sat upright as he said: “Speak, what’s the situation.”

He separated himself from my embrace, and I felt a slight sense of loss. Ye Tan looked at me and held the corner of my bandaged hand.

Ye Xiao held his fox fur coat which was humid from being covered in rain and snow, and twisted the hem between his fingers as he aired out his grievances: “It took me a lot of effort to find the place where Henglian’s troops were garrisoned, and when I got there the person at the door blocked me and asked where I was from and what I was there to do. I said I was from Moling’s Sword Pavilion, and they said they’d never heard of it and wouldn’t let me in. Then I thought about boss, and said I was from One Sword Tomb, and wow after that they got really exited! They jumped out just to beat me up! This group of noobs made me furious, bullying me just because there was a lot of them.”

I hurriedly asked: “Weren’t you hurt?”

Ye Xiao shook his head: “I immediately slipped away when I saw things were turning bad.”

“That’s good then.” I felt relieved, and asked again, “Then, Henglian doesn’t know the news that Yi Qiao and the rest need help?”

Ye Xiao answered: “I yelled really loudly, they must have heard it, but I’m afraid that they didn’t believe me.”

Ye Tan looked pensive: “Henglian is currently treating everyone as an enemy, it’s reasonable that they are guarded.”

“Only we can go save them.” I spoke, then gazed at Ye Tan again, “I know you don’t want to trouble One Sword Tomb with personal matters, you don’t need to force yourself, A-Tan, we’ll think of another way.”

Ye Tan shook his head, firmly saying: “I’ll do as Master instructs.”

Ye Tan went out to send for Qiu Wujiu to accompany Ye Xiao in infiltrating into Zhongli Court. They only had to bring Yi Qiao out and stuff him in front of Henglian’s eyes, when that time came, they would surely believe that our words weren’t empty and we would discuss the arrangements to save the rest.

I didn’t know when we would be able to rescue Yang Qingzhou, and I was very anxious, but unfortunately I was also powerless.

When Ye Xiao and Qiu Wujiu left, we didn’t hear any news for half a day. I sat on pins an needles until sunset when Ye Tan, who was quietly meditating, suddenly opened his eyes and put his hand on his sword hilt.

Ye Tan listened for a short time, and was astonished as he spoke: “Why him?”

We waited for a long time, and there was a knock at the door. There wasn’t any notification from the subordinates outside, and I was afraid they had already been knocked down.

After knocking politely, the person pushed open the door. He was wearing plain black clothes, but he had the disposition of pines and cranes3 . It was Ye Jun.

“Time is limited, so this humble one has acted discourteously, please forgive me, Young Master Jun, I come to deliver news.” Ye Jun’s smile was gentle, and his voice as light as a feather, “Yang Qingzhou, Ye Xiao, and Qiu Wujiu have been captured, and are temporarily being cared for in my residence. The way in which Zhongli Court takes care of people has already been experienced by Young Master Jun, so I shouldn’t need to go into too much detail. However, we will immediately send someone to bring the three of them back, please don’t worry.”

I was just doubting why the Second Young Master would be so kind, when Ye Tan bluntly asked: “Conditions.”

“My Second Young Master was hoping you would exchange them for one person.” Ye Jun watched Ye Tan attentively, and I couldn’t understand the dangerous smile that played underneath his eyes.

I asked: “Who?”

Ye Jun lowered his voice as he answered: “Yaksha.”

1 Referring to war. Top.

2 Just to clarify, ‘Boss’ with capital B is Jun Xuanheng, ‘boss’ with lowercase b is Ye Tan. I try to make the distinction by just writing out “boss Ye Tan” when it would otherwise be ambiguous, but since he’s speaking directly to them here adding the name would be a little awkward. Top.

3 A metaphor for something outstanding. Top.
