Time passed, and it was 5 PM. Professor Lee announced their dismissal, and Qin Ze left the classroom idly, with his bag slung on one shoulder.

“Qin Ze, see you at the usual place.”

“We’ll go ahead first, just hurry over when you’re done.”

His roommates left him a message in their group chat.

It was 5 PM so it was still early. He could afford to play a few rounds of games before he went home, and it wouldn’t interfere with model building. At this thought, Qin Ze hurried towards the internet cafe happily.

It was tough to convince one to work hard, but all it took was a single reason to convince one to play.

Massacring in the virtual world as he surrounded himself with smoke, Qin Ze only realized that the sky was a little dark at 6:30 PM.

“Again, again, I refuse to believe that we’ll lose three times in a row.” Li Liang grumbled as he held the cigarette between his teeth.

Other than the first round, the group of four lost all the rounds they played. This made the competitive Li Liang very frustrated.

Looking at the time and remembering his sister’s tantrum from yesterday, Qin Ze rejected his friends’ proposal. He quit the game and paid the bill. “You guys, go ahead. I have a lot to get down today so I’ll head back first. Let’s do this another time.”

If I don’t make her her mushroom and chicken stew tonight, will Qin Baobao cut off familial ties with me?

“Urgh, can we have fun properly or what?” Li Liang rolled his eyes.

Qin Ze patted him on the shoulders. “Bye.”

He took the elevator downstairs and lit a cigarette at the door of the internet cafe. At this point, he saw several gangster-looking teens heading toward him. He was wearing a black t-shirt and jeans. His hair covered one eye.

Qin Ze had always distanced himself from these kinds of people. He held his lighter and back away. However, the leader of the group—with a silver earring—ran into him as if provoking him. He did not manage to knock Qin Ze but stumbled himself. Thankfully, his friends caught him.

“D*mn you.” The teen cried out and kicked towards Qin Ze’s calves.

Qin Ze stepped back and avoided the hit. He was about to say something, but the teen was relentless. “Hit him.” He shouted.

The few people rushed over. In the confusion, Qin Ze had no idea how many hits he had taken. If this were in the past, he would have fallen to the group and let them do that they please. However, he was different now. He was stronger and could handle the hits better.

While the group surrounded him and struck, Qin Ze fought back for this. He kicked someone out of the way, and the person curled up and gagged as he held his stomach, unable to stand.

Qin Ze gritted his teeth and took the hits. He kicked and kicked, and suddenly… where was everyone?

He glanced around, and everyone was on the floor.

I’m not like I was before, and I just jump one meter tall. How strong are my legs? He felt pride rise in him.

It was peak hour now so there were many pedestrians on the streets. They were watching, and some took their phones out to take photos or videos.

As the adrenaline from the fight subsided, he felt his body ache everywhere, especially his face and eyes.

They were definitely lying when they said that the leads on novels could fight ten alone. In a real fight, they all come at once. It’s chaos, and there’s only so much one can handle. What do they mean ‘take it as they come’?

“D*mn you, just wait to get arrested.” Qin Ze spit out a mouthful of blood at the leader of the group and got his phone out to call the police.

In this day and age, people would be arrested for assault.

Perhaps because he heard that Qin Ze was going to call the police, the teenager panicked and got a foldable knife out. As he stumbled towards Qin Ze, he pushed the knife into the latter’s abdomen.

There was a cool sensation, and it was not as bad as he thought it would be. Qin Ze felt a coolness climb up his spine, and his heart palpitated.

His superficial knowledge of the medicine told him that pain was a result of muscle contraction and blood flow coming into contact with the nerves. A lot of times, pain and death were not linked. The lack of pain did not mean that one was fine.

I’ve been stabbed! I might die!

Fear enveloped him as his adrenaline levels soared. His instincts took over, and he fought back as hard as he could.

A punch to the teenager’s face broke his nose.

“Murder! Murder!”

“Hurry up and call the police!”

“Someone, call the ambulance first.”

“Hurry up and take photos for the Weibo.”

The surrounding people exploded into a commotion. Some were terrified, others were anxious, some stunned, and others were excited. The number of people increased.

In the internet cafe, Li Liang’s fingers flew across the keyboard as did his mouse, fighting for his survival in the game.

He heard the faint cries of ‘murder’ from downstairs.

The words caught his attention as his heart palpitated. He tossed the game and mouse aside as he dashed to the window and looked down.

He saw Qin Ze who was on the floor, with his abdomen bloodied and surrounded by a few teenagers.

Li Liang’s eyes widened as chills rose in him. “Qin Ze’s been stabbed!” he yelled.

Zhao Baliang and Liu Ziqiang lunged after they felt heaviness rise in them. There was an explosion in their brains as fear rose in them—alongside anger, panic…

“Call an ambulance.”

“Hurry up and call the police!”

“Hello, Professor Qin… Qin Ze’s been stabbed, at, at Xiyu internet cafe near school.”

In the thirty-square-meter room with white walls, there were a couch, TV, and a single bed. There was the faint smell of alcohol swabs and disinfectant in the air.

Qin Ze lay palely on the single bed, having been changed into the striped uniform for patients. He had an IV drip on his right hand, and he was making a statement for the police.

His father sat on the couch with a gloomy expression. Not long ago, he was on his way home in his car when his students called and told him that his son had been stabbed. He instantly spun his steering wheel, turned his car around, and headed straight for the school without regard for the traffic rules. He had been a stickler of the traffic rules, but for the first time, he pressed hard on his gas pedal and sped through the city. He got to the place in five minutes and saw his son in a pool of blood.

The ambulance arrived at this time. There were two hospitals near the university, and it was just a few kilometers away.

Qin Ze was sent to the ER, and his father paced anxiously outside the room. He interrogated the trio for information, but they were clueless. They were gaming when they heard the cries of murder from downstairs and saw that Qin Ze had been stabbed when they went to take a look.

Half an hour later, a doctor came out of the room. The old man was scared… scared that the doctor would say that he had tried his best.

That would mean the end of the Qin family’s line.

Thankfully, things were not over for Qin Ze yet. The doctor had said that the knife was small so the wound was small. It did not rupture any organs or arteries so his life was not in danger. He had just lost quite a bit of blood and needed to rest.

The old man almost broke out into tears of joy. His son had been nothing but ordinary since young, and ordinary people like him were fated to live a long life.

He arranged for a single ward for his son. After the nurse was done with Qin Ze’s tetanus shot, he sent the boys home and thanked them, promising them a treat next time.

The police arrived after a while.

“Do you know them?” The person taking his statement was a middle-aged police officer.

“No.” Qin Ze’s voice was weak, mostly from the pain. The anesthetic had worn off, and the pain was setting in. Even breathing hurt.

“How did you come into conflict?” the police officer asked seriously.

“I don’t know either. They just bumped into me; I avoided it, but he kicked me and asked his companions to beat me up.”

“And then?”

“I defended myself. I can’t just stand there and just be beaten up, right? They were no match for me and fell to the floor. I was about to call the police, and that dumb*ss—that guy stabbed me. I thought I was going to die so I punched him. Oh right, officer, how are they…?”

The statement was completed after 10 minutes.

“The assailants have been detained at the station. The person who stabbed you is in this hospital, too. You broke his nose, and he is being investigated, too. We’ll get the surveillance tapes from the internet cafe. If the injury counts beyond a minor injury according to the report, we’ll sue him.”

The old man returned to war with a gloomy expression after sending the officer off.

“Dad, where’s my sis?”

“I asked her to pick your mom up so she can take care of you tonight.” The old man got a cigarette out, only to realize that it was a ward so he put it back.

“Dad, smoke if you want. Close the doors and open the windows. Light one for me, too.” He laughed.

“You smoke? You’re in this state, and you’re still thinking of smoking.” The old man had a strong addiction to smoking, and on his son’s encouragement, he closed the doors, opened the windows, and stood by the window to smoke.

He took a few puffs to calm himself but was still terrified. He then began to lecture Qin Ze angrily. “You got lucky this time; be more careful on the next one. Don’t go around making trouble. If you can’t fight them, run—why stay? Fighting is the most irrational. If you win, you go to jail. If you lose, you go to the hospital.”

Qin Ze kept silent. He wanted to swear. He did not do anything.

The way the father and son interacted was essentially the lecturer and the other being lectured.

“And school…”

“I’ll let them know. Just stay a few days in the hospital, and go home to recuperate when you’re better. Don’t worry about exams and whatnot. You can make up for them next semester.”

“Okay.”

Qin Ze had always been afraid of his father.

At this time, the door of the ward opened; and Qin Baobao rushed in with her mother.

The old man’s hand trembled, and he almost dropped his cigarette on the floor.
