Chapter 72 - Defect

Perhaps Sehun wasn’t feeling conscious of this situation as he was preoccupied with adjusting his tie. After gauging for a good time to speak, Yoonshin asked, “Senior Attorney, did you chew out the lawyer who made me do research? Secretary Tak seemed stressed out.”

“Whether I tell him off or murder him, that’s none of your business. I just had a conversation with him. You just focus on doing your work properly,” Sehun said.

“Was my opinion letter bad? Was that why you criticized him…? I was bothered about it.”

Sehun sighed, then he turned to look at Yoonshin. The numbers on the elevator display continued to descend toward the basement.

“The issue here isn’t whether you did a good job or not. It’s about whether I instructed you to do that work. Don’t do anything that I didn’t tell you to do ever again,” Sehun said firmly.

“Last time, you said that I could attend meetings for the cases that you assigned, so I thought I was allowed to help,” Yoonshin replied.

“I’m looking for a decent case right now. That case isn’t the one.”

“I’m sorry. I’ll be more careful from now on.”

Sehun was bothered by the disheartened reply, so he questioned in a sharp tone, “Hey, Fourth-year. Why do you think I gave you these instructions? Because I hate you that much?”

“If you hated me, you would’ve already murdered me,” Yoonshin replied.

“You know that very well. From the moment you managed to crawl into my team, you were mine. I decide what you do and when. Everyone saw the deputy team leader getting his a*s handed to him today, so nobody would attempt it in the future, but later, if someone randomly gives you work, refuse it and tell them I said no.” Sehun’s explanation didn’t answer all of Yoonshin’s questions, but it hit the key points. Yoonshin understood that Sehun wasn’t acting this way merely to put Yoonshin in a bad position. Sehun probably thought that this case was simply not a good fit for Yoonshin.

Yoonshin felt slightly sorry for his senior who was openly shamed in front of his team just because he asked Yoonshin to do a few small favors.

Abashed, Yoonshin hugged the file bag that he was holding securely even tighter. That wasn’t the main reason for starting the conversation, so he spoke up again, “So… I’m not trying to rush you, but…”

“I’ll give you the right advisory case when the time comes. The more you pester me about it, the longer it’ll get delayed. Learn to be patient.”

“No, not that. Do I really go on my blind date? It’s this Sunday.”

Sehun, who was fastening his cufflinks meticulously, looked up. His eyes were sharper than usual. The Adam’s apple of his long neck undulated roughly. Yoonshin missed it because he happened to look up at the elevator display at that moment, and just then, the elevator door opened with a ding.

Sehun ultimately didn’t answer and walked ahead. As Yoonshin said, the driver, who was standing by, opened the backseat door. Sehun hurriedly got in the car.

Yoonshin, who was following Sehun thoughtlessly, glanced at the driver, asking him to wait, and went into the other side of the seat. Sehun laughed hollowly, not expecting this move. “Are you crazy? I have no time to lose. Get out.”

“Just this once. Since that dinner, all along, I…” Yoonshin started.

“I don’t want to hear it. You’re not getting off?” Sehun’s icy voice and chilling glare pierced through Yoonshin like sharp icicles. Feeling the pointed things stabbing at him, Yoonshin felt upset from being stabbed by the other’s pointed glare and callously threw the bag and envelopes in his arms. The items scattered carelessly on the luxurious car seat, and Yoonshin got off as if he had never entered in the first place. It was quite an impudent reaction, but instead of reproaching it, Sehun ignored it completely.
