Primordial Dimensions

Chapter 239 - Unwanted Visitor

Eying the Lesser Starlet Fox, he was unable to suppress his excitement completely. He had waited for such a long time and it was barely the second instance of him seeing the small fox.

How long would he have to wait if it would escape yet again?

This was something Shane didn't want to find out!

In the end, he didn't feel the desire to kill the Lesser Starlet Fox either.

As such, even without the agreement he made with the Elus-race, Shane wouldn't kill the Lesser Starlet fox!

Recalling the time when he had tried his best to save the almost extinct albino rhinoceros on earth, he couldn't help but feel that it would be too bad if he were to annihilate an entire race.

Who knew how many of them were still alive? Maybe it was already the last of its kind!

There was no way for Shane to figure this out except by seeing two Lesser Starlet Foxes at once.

However, even the Elus-race had yet to see two of them at a time. It was a fact that told Shane that those foxes were either reluctant to form groups or that the number of members in their race was minuscule!

Being reminded about his past life, Shane couldn't help but recall how peaceful it had been there. He had played around with wild animals and made friends in the wilderness.

This was something unthinkable on Igra or the Primordial Dimensions.

He might have killed several hundred if not a thousand innocent beasts since his childhood, but he had also seen an equal or slightly greater number of beasts killing innocent humans.

This was not only shocking for the young Shane who had never seen something like that on earth, but it would have been a frightening sight for every child at the tender age of 4.

How could he have ever imagined that his innocent mindset would change to that of a rational thinker who saw money and profits instead of blood and bones by looking at living beings?

When Shane thought about this for the first time, he was truly shocked. After that, he didn't want to enter the Primordial Dimensions or become stronger by killing innocent beasts that had never done something to others.

Yet, after witnessing and experiencing the dangers of the true, cruel world, he was forced to accept reality, even if it might have caused him to do something he would have never done in his past life.

If he didn't do everything possible to become stronger, other beasts might as well kill him!

Right now, there was an unknown foreign race in the adjacent stellar system of humanity which meant that they might have to fight them soon.

A war would be unavoidable if there would be no other way to solve everything in a peaceful manner.

As such, Shane could only strive to improve himself and do everything in his power to become stronger so as to not be killed and make someone else stronger.

There were many ways to mould and twist the facts, but the cruel truth was that the planet, or rather the universe Shane had been transmigrated to, was messed up and completely different from earth.

However, when he gave it a second thought, he realised that the situation on earth was not that different. Maybe it was even more messed up because it was a single race i.e, mankind that was after each other's throats for the most absurd reasons, one could think of.

They envied each other for resources that other countries found on their lands or waged war because of religions some countries were affiliated with.

Such events tainted the earth's history but even after millennia's passed, war was still present, while the innocent died because they were too weak to fight back.

When Shane told himself this, he couldn't help but think that his new life was several times more intense in those factors than it was the case on earth.

Yet, this didn't mean that everything was cruel or that his path was the right one.

Shane was aware that his mindset had been manipulated by his father, uncles, and families. At the same time, he had yet to establish a mindset where both his first and current life were taken into account.

It was not about accepting who he was but comparing the different situations with each other and using the differences between earth's life to now.

Both his lives had been a stark contrast to each other, however, the most important one was the difference in his mindset that was created by the surrounding environment he lived in.

In his former life, he had never encountered war and the only unjust and bad memory he had was that he was bullied.

The only desire he had was to live a peaceful and stress-free life while taking care of all wild animals around him.

However, in his current life, he faced death and the pain one would feel for being a weakling, almost on a constant basis.

At the age of 4, he had to face reality which was a terrifying difference from his former life! As such, with time, earth's life and his love for wild animals took a backseat because he had yet to come across something that was similar to the wild animals on earth.

Even herbivores that looked like cute, playful beasts could turn into ferocious beasts without giving a warning!

[Artemis' Blessing] was something Shane had already been bestowed with when he was still alive on earth. At least, that was what he thought, because it wouldn't make any sense why wild animals would be drawn to him, however, within the Primordial Dimensions, his blessing seemed to have lost its charm.

At most, mana and a few particular beasts would be attracted to him.

Shane assumed that the Lesser Starlet fox was one of those beasts because it was actively searching for him and using Shane as a toy.

This was annoying, but at the same time, it was also a great loophole to exploit.

Maybe he could finish his [Mythic] mission faster due to the blessing he received!

It was worth a try and after he had evaded the Lesser Starlet Fox's attacks for two hours, Shane noticed that it had lowered its guards compared to a few weeks before!

The Lesser Starlet fox became too confident in its speed and spatial affinity and its playfulness caused it to be more daring.

However, it hadn't expected its toy to play with him as well. As it geared up for another round of trickery, the fox jumped not realising that the space around it got sealed, the moment it jumped through the spatial portal. The fox landed straight on Shane's face where it wanted to create another spatial portal!

When it noticed that the surrounding space had been sealed, the Lesser Starlet Fox panicked for a quarter of a second, before it regained its composure the moment Shane lifted his arms to catch it.

He had activated his [Berserk Hunter] title's skill, which increased his strength and other characteristics by 10%, immediately after sealing the space around him by utilising the space sealing parchment.

After the [Berserk] skill was utilized, his speed was faster than that of the Lesser Starlet Fox. He was about to grasp it when the Lesser Starlet Fox twisted its body at an uncomfortable angle which allowed it to use its legs to push itself away from one of Shane's hands.

Utilizing a large amount of force while circulating a majority of mana into its legs, the Lesser Starlet Fox's speed increased by at least 30% as it escaped Shane's grasp while shooting past him.

"F*ck!" was the only thing Shane could shout as he jumped off the tree branch, following the Lesser Starlet Fox that ran straight to the area that had the most reinforced taratector nets set up.

However, Shane had a premonition even if he couldn't put a finger on it.

His situation was not quite bad and the Lesser Starlet Fox had used a large margin of its mana which meant that he was at an advantage.

Furthermore, he knew the exact location of all reinforced taratector nets which gave him the advantage of knowing the surrounding area much better than the Lesser Starlet Fox that was forced to change the direction in which it ran multiple times.

With this, Shane was able to catch up to the Lesser Starlet Fox, whose spatial affinity was almost completely sealed.

The most it could do was creating a spatial portal five meters in front of it.

Yet instead of doing this, the Lesser Starlet Fox waited until Shane had almost caught up to it before creating a spatial portal right in front of it and five meters behind them.

It didn't even have to stop running as it emerged out of the spatial portal it had barely manifested behind Shane, who was astonished that the spatial affinity still worked so precisely.

He expected the Lesser Starlet Fox to be able to use its affinity, but not to that degree, and he had to look around for two seconds before he was able to see where his target ran to.

The distance between him and the Lesser Starlet fox had increased to more than 20 meters.

This was a huge distance, considering that the small fox could disappear within a bush at any moment.

When Shane saw this, he stopped using the concealment skill, instead, he used half of his remaining mana to circulate it through his body, increasing his speed by more than 10%.

With that, he was faster than the Lesser Starlet fox once again and he was slowly closing in on the fox. However, his happiness didn't last long when Shane perceived the mana fluctuations of the powerful beast right next to the Lesser Starlet fox. The fox was unable to perceive anything around it because it had been too engrossed in running away from Shane.

Suddenly a four-meter-long and one-meter-tall green-furred panther with feathered legs shot out of the nearby bush with a terrifying velocity, not issuing a single noise.

'Sh*t! Did we attract too much attention??'
