Cars or fuels are absolutely scarce in this post-apocalyptic world.

The only ones who can still get fuel to consume now would be those from large survivor bases. In Lin Yuzu’s opinion, it specifically refers to the remaining southern base nearby.

Lin Yuzu measured the tracks left in the mud with her hands, it was about as wide as two palms and thick, probably two trucks loaded with a lot of heavy things.

Earlier, she guessed that the base might not be able to sustain itself, if it was really from there, their resources would be surprisingly rich, otherwise, they wouldn’t have driven two vehicles out.

But, what are they doing here?

The first thing Lin Yuzu thought was Du Yan and his wife. She smiled bitterly and immediately denied it.

Assuming that they arrived at the base to cure Du Anan and look for her, there’s no need for a car, let alone two. What’s more, she arrived long ago, it wouldn’t make sense for them to come now after all this time.

In short, no matter where it came from, these two vehicles either contain a lot of supplies. . . or a lot of people.

Lin Yuzu’s faintly felt a sense of foreboding in her heart.

Her uneasiness became more apparent when she followed the tracks for a while and found that it was in the same direction as her home.

The slender-necked bird hovered beside her, ‘quacking’ with a rough voice with a sense of urgency. It seems to be puzzled upon looking at her walking and stopping.

Lin Yuzu looked back, she didn’t go very far. After breaking away from the protection of the giant tree, the oppressive feeling belonging to mutant creatures were more apparent as she continued to close the distance.

She could also clearly see the small white flowers scattered among the dense branches and leaves.

Xiao Xiao is there.

This fact was almost brushed away by the heavy shadow in her heart, yet the tracks on the ground were a cold reminder that the world isn’t a paradise.

Lin Yuzu knew that the safest option was to avoid the direction where the tracks were heading and return immediately to find Xiao Xiao so that she could direct the mutant creatures to determine the danger of the invaders.

But. . .

Lin Yuzu was a little worried about the remaining members of her family.

As long as these people pass by their home, they will definitely find traces of inhabitants There is a big difference between barren ruins and inhabited houses. What’s more, Xiao Xiao discovered wild rice a while ago and even tried to make two fields in front of the house, waiting to harvest the seeds and plant them.

In case they collide with the two mutant creatures in the house. . .

Zhao Cai isn’t necessarily at home, and that big and agile cat will immediately run away when the situation turns for the worse, but Xiao Hong’s combat ability, excluding her aesthetic effect, is only about 0.5%. Among the mutant creatures, it belongs to the type that even Lin Yuzu can easily deal with. If she runs away, when they go back, there will probably only be leftover leaves and broken branches waiting for them.

Lin Yuzu hesitated for a moment and decided to go home first and scout the situation.

She’s human and most people living right now don’t kill each other.

Lin Yuzu was now feeling fortunate that she left Xiao Xiao in the giant tree, otherwise, she’s afraid she won’t be able to handle the carnage if the two sides were to collide.

Xiao Xiao. . . is clearly more human than most people.

Lin Yuzu quickened her pace. She traveled light and alone, much faster than when she walked at a leisurely pace during her outing with Xiao Xiao and returned home shortly after dark.

There are no traces of vehicles driving nearby.

Zhao Cai wasn’t some and only Xiao Hong was trapped in the yard because of its movement restrictions. Its huge body dropped petals as if melted and paralyzed in the corner. Sensing Lin Yuzu’s return, it immediately stood up excitedly and beat its leaves for a while.

They probably didn’t come to this place. Lin Yuzu stroked Xiao Hong and fed it some snacks.

The two slender birds didn’t seem to have any plans of leaving after sending Lin Yuzu home, instead found a place nearby to rest. Lin Yuzu originally intended to use them to send a message to Xiao Xiao, but after half a day of unsuccessful attempts, she could only give up.

It’s good that they didn’t come over and it’s even better if they just passed by.

Lin Yuzu used to travel around and would always be happy to see living people whom she could talk to, but now, she only hopes that they will leave town as soon as possible and won’t stay much longer.

But the second she thought about it, she heard the roar of a car’s engine from far away.

In the silence of the night, the noise from the engine was abrupt and ear-splitting, and it was getting closer and closer.

Lin Yuzu exhaled gently and checked her weapons.

She was now suddenly aware of how lax she had spent this time. With Xiao Xiao by her side, her vigilance had dropped. She had prepared herself for going out in the past two days, but because she’s usually at home, her guns and daggers were usually kept in her room.

Xiao Hong was probing its head in the yard as it looked for the direction of the sound.

Lin Yuzu found the tarpaulin that had been laid on the roof during heavy rain and covered Xiao Hong. It was stunned for a while, not seemingly happy being covered as it twisted under the carp.

Lin Yuzu patted it gently, “Be quiet.”

Probably because of her comfort or because of the approaching strange scent, Xiao Hong obediently quieted down.

The two cars circled around and eventually stopped nearby.

Lin Yuzu held her breath for a while as she heard the car door open and three pairs of footsteps came down. The one at the front is heavy and powerful, the one behind is slightly in a distance away from him and its movements were so light that she could barely hear it. The last one is led by him, its footsteps were light but seemed a little flimsy.

There are only three of them.

They stopped not far from the door and after a breath, the last one stepped forward and knocked on the gate.

“Is anyone there?” The person knocking on the gate raised their voice. A soft female voice that sounded a little anxious and non-aggressive, “Is anyone home, please?”

Lin Yuzu said nothing. After waiting for a while to see whether they were going to leave, she realized that they weren’t so she opened and closed the door of her house, pretending that she had just heard their call, and walked towards the courtyard gate.

She still didn’t open the door and instead asked in a cold tone through the wall, “Who are you?”

There was silence outside for a moment and the woman’s voice softened even more, “Little girl, we’re from the nearby Pujiang base. My companion is injured, can we borrow your place to rest?”

Rest?

Lin Yuzu could understand their behavior of coming up and knocking on the door once they noticed the traces of people, after all, she was like this too, but it was still strange to go and rest in a stranger’s territory after being injured.

She bluntly refused, “It’s not very convenient. You guys find another place.”

This answer seemed to be expected by the visitor that the woman immediately asked, “Then, can I ask for some hot water? As you know, the river isn’t necessarily safe and we have an injured person. . . just a little bit.”

Lin Yuzu didn’t refuse this time. She went back to boil some hot water she hadn’t used. She asked the woman to wait outside for a while and ook out the remaining half pot to carry the water out.

The woman outside the door had a gentle face and is wearing a gray combat suit with the word “Pu” logo printed on the shoulder. Her two companions were standing not too far away, dressed the same way as her.

Their leader is a tall man who had thick gray-brown hair color.

When Lin Yuzu opened the door, she saw a clear expression of surprise on his face. The other man was tall and slender who stood a little behind him. His messy hair reached up to his neck and his eyes were light blue, shimmering in the night.

Lin yuzu could smell the strong scent of blood from them, it seems that they are indeed wounded.

The woman at the door took the kettle from her and asked with a bit of surprise, “Little sister, are you alone?”

Little sister. . .

Lin Yuzu had no intention to correct her, a young girl who survives in the post-apocalyptic world but was clean and tidy is obviously an object of envy to them. She responded with a light ‘En’ and shut them out.

The tall man stared at her until she closed the door.

Under the cover of the night, his eyes were very blunt. Lin Yuzu was familiar with these kinds of stares, one with a hot evaluation that’s as sticky as mucus left behind by a mollusk’s trail, and some familiar ones that make people sick.

It couldn’t have been more right to not choose to go to their base in the first place.

Lin Yuzu heard them tossing and turning for a while and seemed to be resting temporarily in the abandoned house next to hers. She remembered the man’s disgusting eyes that although she was lying on the bed, she was fully armed and didn’t close her eyes.

A thin slit was left open in the window and there was only silence in the second half of the night. The sound of someone entering the courtyard could be heard clearly.

Lin Yuzu turned over gently from the bed, leaving the stacked pillows on the bed that formed a human’s silhouette, before hiding in the shadow between the desk and the bookshelf. Whether the visitor comes in from the door or the window, it would still remain as a blind spot.

Along with the gradually thickening aroma, the sound of a low-toned conversation could barely be heard.

“only. . .one?”

“. . . she. . . not easy to deal with. . .”

The rough male voice sneered. As he approached, his voice also became clear, “Nevermind how powerful the people living with her are, we get her and leave immediately. The sky is vast and in a different era, where can they find us?”

Lin Yuzu held her breath.

The other person didn’t speak. The next second, a large shadow covered the window, blocking the moonlight. The plant Xiao Xiao planted in a small, colorful round porcelain pot on the windowsill was stepped on by someone, and the sound of the porcelain cracking was particularly crisp in the dead of the night.

The tall man leaped into the house and turned his gray-brown colored head to look at his surroundings.

Lin Yuzu raised her gun. Her eyes glowed a pale lake blue and her clear pupils sank into the shadows under the light, condensing into a deeper color as if one were looking into the ocean floor while snorkeling, reflecting the scene in the room.

At this moment–

The moment the man’s eyes landed on the bed, Lin Yuzu pulled the trigger!

Everything happened in just a split second. The man turned his head haughtily as the gunshot rang out, but the bullet had already arrived and hit the target with precision – that should be what happened.

Yes, the shot did connect. As expected, the bullet his temple without the slightest deviation.

But there was no splattering of blood and the man standing in the center of the room didn’t even budge as he slowly turned his head to look at her.

“. . .”

A cold premonition.

At that glance, Lin Yuzu decisively jumped away from her original spot – from where she was originally standing to the direction she was dodging, thin and sharp ground spikes broke through the wooden floor and snaked through the surface. Lin Yuzu was just one step away from being skewered from below.

Failed.

Her only one chance of surprise attack failed and the situation immediately leaned towards her opponent. To Lin Yuzu, it wasn’t surprising, people who could survive until now always live close to death.

The people outside knocked on the window, “Big brother?”

“You don’t need to worry.” The man with grayish-brown hair in the room craned his neck. The flesh near his temple squired and the embedded bullet was squeezed out and fell on the ground, “Sure enough, I was right. You don’t have any offensive powers, do you.”

No, the writhing mass that came off his head was. . . probably dirt, mud, or something like that.

Was he an earth awakened person?

Lin Yuzu’s afterimage swept over the raised earth spikes on the ground and locked eyes with the man, “. . . you know me.”

“I’ve read your profile.” The man confessed with a grin, “The ‘Venus’ of Linshan base. . . right?”
