“You’ll go back once you find that fish, right?”

“Meow~”

Ugh. . . He’s getting more and more spoiled.
Lin Yuzu helplessly stroked the big cat that was rubbing around and activated the best zombie mutant bio-sensor, “Xiao Xiao, can you find it?”

Xiao Xiao turned her head thought for a while as if she searching in her brain, “. . . here, many mutant creatures.”

“No way. . . just treat it as post-meal exercise. Look for it properly.”

Successive shadows gently swayed in the warm breeze that was hard to make out of.

Lin Yuzu and Xiao Xiao walked onto the narrow trestle bridge covered by emerald colors. Zhaocai followed them and when his thick claws stepped on it, the aged trestle bridge swayed a little, emitting a fragile creaking sound.

The cat immediately stopped.

Lin Yuzu was also taken aback and pondered for a moment, “Zhaocai, have you gotten fatter?”

“Meow?” Zhaocai tilted his head and looked at her as if he was innocent.

But Lin Yuzu looked at him from top to bottom and she could see his fat belly protruding from both sides.

It’s definitely because we’ve been feeding him too many snacks. . . compared to his athletic and light body when we first met, this is definitely more than just a little fat!

Lin Yuzu reflected.

Xiao Xiao reassured her, “It’s okay, won’t collapse for now.”

They walked to the place near the center of the lotus pond, near the mutant fish Xiao Xiao gathered together and the water churned with colorful splashes.

Lin Yuzu saw a golden tail with her sharp eye, “Is it that one?!”

Zhaocai came over and hung his head in disappointment, “Muu. . .”

“No? The fish all look alike, can’t this one make do?”

“Me ooww~ Miuu. . .”

Xiao Xiao glanced at it and saw the cats moving on the trestle bridge to calm down and translated to Lin Yuzu who was surprised upon hearing it, “It said this one, color not pure enough.”

“. . . His requirements are quite high.”

There are still some that were far away that hadn’t gathered yet. Waiting for them, Lin Yuzu folded two lotus leaves as cushions and offered Xiao Xiao to sit down and dipped her legs in the water. . . icy cold and almost immediately erased the heat from the sun.

Lin Yuzu breathed a long sigh of relief.

Xiao Xiao looked at her worriedly, “Very hot? Yuzu uncomfortable?”

“Not so much. . .” Lin Yuzu sat a little bit towards her.

Xiao Xiao’s body temperature is relatively low and the two of them will be very comfortable together.

But if her body temperature is too low, she will soon be warmed by Lin Yuzu who’s next to her. Even so, Lin Yuzu felt that it would be less hot with one one person. . . Actually, it had nothing to do with body temperature, it’s because her mind is at ease with her.

The school of fish that no one supported quickly dispersed and only some of them stayed, wandering nearby.

Lin Yuzu found lotus in the crowded lotus leaves pile, pealed out the lotus seeds and fed it to Xiao Xiao. One accidentally fell into the water and was swallowed by a fish.

The new fish had a round forehead and a bulging stomach, with beautiful golden-red scaled and a tail fin that spread out like a gauze.

“Ah,” Lin Yuzu pointed at it, “Goldfish, is that it?”

Zhaocai, who was lying on his back and putting his face close to the water, wiggled is tail and stretched out his paws to pick it up in disgust.

Xiao Xiao, “Looks like, no.”

The stunned fish swung its tailfin frantically and escaped the paws of the cat who was doing nothing good.

It hid behind a lotus leaf not far away, seemingly spitting out bubbles angrily. It suddenly exposed its head, opened its mouth towards Zhaocai, who had lost interest and licking his paws, before spitting out a shower of water.

Zhaocai, “. . . !”

The water expanded mid-air and turned into a transparent orb, covering the dumbfounded Zhaocai.

“Eh?!” Lin Yuzu watched in amazement as the orb slowly floated up the big cat, just like the bubble water she used to play with before, reflecting colored light under the dazzling sunlight.

Zhaocai reacted sluggishly and meowed inside.

But the transparent waterball was unexpectedly tougher than it looks. Depending on how the cat scratched it, after deforming wobbly, it would return to its original shape.

“This. . .” Lin Yuzu touched the outer wall. It felt similar to touching water, cool and silky.

The water ball didn’t float very high. When Lin Yuzu pressed it down, it was light but had elasticity. If it enters the water, it could separate the water.

She and Xiao Xiao played with the cat-trapped ball, “. . . Isn’t this fun!” She remembered the kind of spaceball they played in the water park before.

Zhaocai being played with, “. . . meow?”

“Mhm!” Xiao Xiao happily expressed the same opinion, “Want to play?”

“Eh?”

Xiao Xiao took Lin Yuzu’s hand.

The transparent barrier poured out an arc from above, enveloping the two.

Lin Yuzu floated on the bottom of her feet, the point of impact became soft and the water ball suddenly moved. She wasn’t prepared at the uneven floor and unsteady fell forward into the slightly cool embrace.

“Ah. . .!”

Her nose hit something. . . Lin Yuzu hissed in pain.

Xiao Xiao reacted quickly and held her by the shoulders and the two fell down smoothly, their bodies overlapped and the soft ball of water swayed twice before regaining its calm.

Lin Yuzu blinked because o the physical pain that tears fell from her eyes. The afterglow of the blazing sunlight gradually faded.

The surroundings darkened. . . ?

Xiao Xiao asked her in a panic, “Is anything wrong?”

“Nothing, it’s just a bump. . .” Lin Yuzu rubbed her nose. The impact wasn;t very hard and she raised her face and met Xiao Xiao’s eyes, “Ah. . . um, it’s okay. It doesn’t hurt anymore.”

So close. . .

It’s not that they’ve never been so close, but somehow, the usual intimacy and this felt different.

Lin Yuzu’s hand propped up on the water ball softly sank down, so they were very close to each other. . . She looked down at Xiao Xiao.

In her dark vision, snow-colored hair scattered around her cheeks, the pupils of those eyes reflected the sparkling light, showing a bewildering dark blue.

Xiao Xiao’s expression was almost dazed and her snow-white eyelashes slightly fluttered, “. . .Mmm, it’s good, you’re okay.”

“. . .”

She and Lin Yuzu looked at each other for a moment and Lin Yuzu smiled before sitting up, “Oh, I was really surprised.”

They were now underwater and the sunlight sank into the water through the gaps in the lotus leaves. The ball of water wrapped around them squeezed through the dense lotus leaf stalks. The startled fish swam back after regaining their composure, their colorful scales catching Lin Yuzu’s eye.

Her eyes turned away.

Xiao Xiao “. . .”

The school of fish in front of her suddenly scattered, posing a simplified cat head.

Lin Yuzu let out a soft cry and laughed.

Another group of fish swam over and the shape of a flower appeared by the cat head and he swallowed it in one bite. The mixed group of fish turned into an oval and spread their light fins from both sides and created two slender birds, swimming with their ‘wings’ in the water.

Lin Yuzu turned her head to Xiao Xiao, who was watching her, her eyes bright as she smiled.

They rode the water ball and played around under the water. Lin Yuzu also let Xiao Xiao direct the fish to dig two lotus roots. Until the light that reflected slowly dimmed, she finally remembered their original purpose. . . and the forgotten cat.

The water surface was filled with the evening glow with the sun setting.

Xiao Xiao went back to rescue the sleeping Zhaocai in the water ball. The big cat whimpered aggrievedly and Lin Yuzu hugged his head to comfort him for a long time as she wanted to reason with it.

“You’ve seen all the fish here, but the one you want isn’t here.” Lin Yuzu was a little tired from all the playing, “Maybe it’s no longer here. Let’s go back first and visit next time, okay?”

“Meow~ Meeooow~”

It meant “not good”. . . Lin Yuzu could also hear his reluctance even without Xiao Xiao’s translation.

She wondered whether to forcibly drag the cat away or to persuade it again. She then suddenly caught a glimpse of a very thing, but very dazzling gold leaping out of the lotus leaves far away.

“. . . Ah.”

Lin Yuzu thought, she probably knew which fish Zhaocai was looking for.

Zhaocai seemed to have sensed something and looked at the direction.

It was indeed extremely radiant and dazzling golden, but. . . it was too small.

Lin Yuzu watched the golden scales that kept leaping out of the water, each time higher than the last. . . It might be an illusion but it seemed to be getting bigger and bigger in this repetitive behavior.

Getting bigger and bigger. . .

Then, when it jumped for the last time, its golden body stretched out and flew into the air—

The sky seemed to have been set on fire, the haze was full of light like the fiery red sunset falling on the sky.

Thunder rose and lightning flashed down in the distance.

Its slender and graceful body was covered with golden scales with gorgeous luster. It’s translucent fins flared like wings and its tails fins were wide and soft, reflecting the color of the beautiful sunset glow in the sky.

“. . .”

Lin Yuzu didn’t know what to say.

The fish is in the sky. . . flying fish? It lowered its head and looked their way curiously.

It flew over.

It circled twice in the sky.

It landed here. . . Huh? It became smaller?

The flying fish had returned to its original size when it landed to them, a slum one, only a little thicker than a chopstick.

In Zhaocai’s expectant eyes, it paused on the cat’s head, like a transient stream of light leaping into Lin Yuzu’s hands that were subconsciously raised.

Lin Yuzu froze for a moment. Only Xiao Xiao could command the mutant creature. She looked at the person beside her.

Xiao Xiao had been looking at her, the warm light of the sunset, melting those ice-blue yes that contained nothing but a warm and soft smile.

“Want to raise?”

“. . . no.”

Xiao Xiao glanced over as if she was complaining about her ruining the atmosphere.

She stared at Lin Yuzu, her smile gentle and warm, “Koi, symbol of good luck, right? Although not very special, I hoped it landed in your hands.”

“I thought Xiao Xiao went into a Science school. . .” Lin Yuzu said so but couldn’t help but raise the corner of her lips.

“But even if it’s good luck, it has to be used in the right place. I hope. . .” She held Xiao Xiao’s hand, her palms were empty and the feeling of the slender fish’s beating heart seemed to have conveyed through their hands to their hearts, “Xiao Xiao can always be by my side.”

Her words fell and the sky suddenly resounded with thunder.

“Huh?” Lin Yuzu was stunned, and asked sincerely, “Isn’t the under just now a special effect of this fish’s transformation?”

“. . .?”

Xiao Xiao questioned her question with a puzzled look.

Lin Yuzu pushed Zhaocai’s head away and placed the fish back into the water amidst his eager gaze, “But it’s really strange that there’s thunder and lighting on a sunny day. . .”

Xiao Xiao didn’t say anything.

Lin Yuzu looked up and saw her looking in the direction of the lightning strike and pursed her lips slightly.

“Not thunder. Ability.” Xiao Xiao’s voice sank, “Raccoon fighting with that person.”

Huh?

“She’s strong. . . Raccoon will die.”

“. . .”

Lin Yuzu stood up.

The place wasn’t far away. They rushed over with Xiao Xiao being faster as she led Lin Yuzu.

When they arrived, they found a mutant creature already lying ont he ground. The field arced with electricity and the raccoon let out a howl of pain. It looked like it wasn’t much of a fighter since it only knew how to hide everywhere, but its abdomen looked like it was cut by a sharp object as it dripped with blood.

Lin Yuzu’s heart thumped.

The woman with her back towards them, was wearing a gray combat uniform, shoulder-length hair with a tinge of purple, holding a long knife in one hand and biting a bandage in her mouth as she moved sharply to wrap her other hand, hoping to stop the bleeding. . . That back looks inexplicably familiar.

The lightning that fell for the third time blocked the raccoon’s excape.

The woman leaned back slightly and raised her long knife in a throwing position.

“Wait. . .!”

The woman suddenly snapped her head and took an offensive stance, her cyan-gold eyes stained with blood, bright and sharp.

Lin Yuzu was stunned and the dagger she was about to throw also stopped, “. . . Senior sister?”

The author has something to say:
