Reincarnated to Bonk in Another World

Chapter 6: Entering the Town

After considering many things, Albert finally took the step to the front of the town.

The two middle-aged guards furrowed their eyebrows as he didn't recognize the guy.

"Who are you?" One of them stepped forward and stopped him. He had short blonde hair and a beard. Although his body wasn't that muscular, the scar running from his cheek to his eyebrows managed to replace his gentle aura.

"I…" Albert paused for a moment. "I am Albert Gran."

"Albert Gran?" The guard furrowed his eyebrows and said, "You're not from here, aren't you?"

"Y-yes." Albert nodded.

"I need your identification then."

"…" Albert scratched the back of his head and looked down.

Seeing his flustered expression, the guard pressed him for more. "You don't have an identification card?"

He started becoming suspicious.

"Yes." Albert nodded. "I ran away from my abusive parents and just wandered around. Then I arrived here by chance."

The guard squinted his eyes before sighing. "I understand your circumstances now. In that case, I will give you a temporary permit. You can go to the guild to issue you another identification."

Albert raised his eyebrows, staring at him in surprise. He thought, 'He believes me?'

The guard simply stated, "Anyway, follow me."

He led Albert inside and took him to the small building behind the wall.

The building only had a table, chairs, and a shelf filled with yellow-colored papers.

The guard pulled a piece of paper and put it on the table while waving his hand to Albert. "Come sit."

Albert looked at the paper and confirmed that he could read it. The system had told him that he would translate their language so that it wouldn't be a problem living here.

The guard asked, "What's your name again?"

"Albert Gran."

"Albert Gran from Demon Dog Race." The guard nodded and started writing. "Anyway, this city doesn't really have many people, so it's easy for us to know each other's names. Even if we don't know your name, we will still recognize your face.

"Seeing that you didn't lie about your origin, I can only say my condolences and hope you can start a new life here."

After he finished, the guard rolled the paper and handed it to him. "This is your temporary permit. Just follow the path outside and you will find a building with a big "PUB" sign. You can get your identification there."

"Thank you." Albert politely thanked him, realizing that the people in this place seemed to be good.

"It's fine. If anyone asks about you, just tell them that Aran let you in." The guard, whose name was Aran, assured him.

"I understand. Thank you so much." Albert hurriedly rose from his seat, trying to shake his hand.

Aran shook his hand with a smile. "Anyway, you should start searching for a job soon or you may need to sleep on the street. There are still six hours before the night comes, so you have plenty of time to make quick money to stay in the inn. Just go to the guild to know how."

"Yes." Albert nodded a few times, assuring him he would follow his advice.

"You're good to go. Have a nice day." Aran extended his hand, pointing at the door.

Albert walked with a little smile on his face, knowing that the other world wasn't that bad.

After seeing him off, Aran returned to his place where his friend couldn't help but ask, "Why did you trust him easily?"

"Hmm?" Aran pointed at the ground and whispered right in his ear while covering it with his hands to avoid Albert from hearing their conversation. "There is a truth crystal underneath this place. If he lied, the truth crystal would shine. You're a new guard here, so you don't know this yet."

"Really?" The guard opened his mouth in surprise, never expecting to hear such a revelation. "You should put it inside the building instead of burying it underground…"

"Well, if you were aware there is a truth crystal near you, it wouldn't be possible to lie, right?"

"Obviously."

"But the truth crystal won't react even if you're not telling the truth either. For example, you killed a person and brought a bucket of water. That person told me you just drew some water from the well… The truth crystal wouldn't pick up.

"So, we're here to lower their guard and chat with them normally. Without them knowing, we can see whether they're telling us the truth or not. After all, a harmless exchange is what we need to interrogate them."

"So that's how it is…" The guard nodded furiously, understanding what he meant.

Little did he know, Albert indeed didn't lie, but the truth came from his previous life, not this one.

After getting out of the building, Albert continued his way toward the so-called guild. Still, he felt a bit uncomfortable due to his enhanced hearing.

He now could listen to their conversation after all. Even the system kept disturbing him.

'What the heck with this town?' Albert cursed. 'Did they do it during the day? Like, seriously?'

Unfortunately, he controlled himself to not say anything and just kept walking.

The other thing his ears picked up was them getting suspicious of him. Just like Aran said, it was a relatively small town. Even if they didn't know each other, knowing their faces wouldn't be a problem.

Seeing that someone came in, they would become suspicious.

Albert simply ignored them as if he couldn't hear them. At the same time, he also secretly glimpsed at their appearances.

As he expected from this place, there were many races. In fact, he could only find two humans out of fifty people in the street.

The other races also varied. Some walked with two feet, some with four. Some had hands, some had paws, talons, or other names.

It was a unique experience because this was the first time he walked around other races.

After five minutes, he stopped in front of a building. It was a two-story building made of brown wood. It had a slanted roof but no glass windows.

He rechecked the "PUB" sign in front of the building and finally entered. "It's time."
