Being Different From The Rest (1)

Each person took turns to take an origami from Schoolmaster Ren’s hands.

In each of the origami was the name of a department.

Xie Wanying thought that the best outcome for her was if she got into the Cardiothoracic Surgery Department, but she was intrigued when she saw what she picked, ‘Ah, it’s neurosurgery.’

When all the boys had finished opening theirs, they laughed when they saw what was written on Yue Wentong’s paper, “Class monitor, you’re going to cardiothoracic surgery.”

Coincidentally, both Yue Wentong and Xie Wanying thought of the same thing at that exact moment: ‘It’d be great if we could switch departments.’

“No switching departments,” Ren Chongda stated after he noticed what his interns were thinking.

No one knew what game this counselor was playing.

Most everyone else, with the exception of the two of them, either went to general surgery or to orthopedics. Guoxie Hospital has nine surgical departments, most of which are branches of either general surgery or orthopedics. Unfortunately, one of the boys had managed to land into gynecology. That young man suddenly sobbed and begged, “Xie Wanying, please trade with me!”

“Didn’t I just say no switching?!” Ren Chongda emphasized again, “If I find anyone secretly doing so, they’ll be dealing with me!”

Thus, because of the no-switching rule, she ended up in neurosurgery.

To be honest, Xie Wanying had mixed feelings about this.

The Neurosurgery Department was one of the top surgical specialities of the hospital, together with cardiothoracic surgery. And the two specialties were considered by many as the pinnacle of surgery, though neurosurgeons were hailed as the best of the best.

It was actually a great opportunity for Xie Wanying to be able to study in the neurosurgery department, but because she was primarily concerned about her grandpa’s health in the near future, she had always been partial to specializing in cardiothoracic surgery.

She needed to call Teacher Zhuang to inform him that she couldn’t accompany him at the Spring Festival and maybe try to reschedule for another time. She went back to dormitory and surfed the Internet for some internship materials.

Suddenly, the QQ group, which had mostly been quiet, had someone making a ruckus.

<HowDoITakeYourCerebralPons?>: Class 9, who’s going to neurosurgery?

‘Isn’t she asking for me? But who is asking?’

‘I can’t tell from the avatar, but it’s definitely a senior.’

“It’s me,” Xie Wanying typed a response.

<HowDoITakeYourCerebralPons?>: Name?

<Blank>: [Xie Wanying.]

<HowDoITakeYourCerebralPons?>: [Seems to be a girl’s name.]

<1stRateAnastomosis>: [Could a boy actually be named like that?]

<HowDoITakeYourCerebralPons?>: [Well, the avatar’s blank so we can’t really be sure.]

<Blank>: [……]

The only member of the group with a blank profile pic was also named <Blank>.

<1stRateAnastomosis>: [I wasn’t aware that nicknames could be blank! The avatar is blank too!]

Instantaneously, the entire QQ group exploded with, [Blank, how did you create a blank avatar?]

[I, too, wish to make mine blank!!!]

[Blank looks great!!!]

[Isn’t it just an empty avatar? So it’s blank?]

[Will <Blank> be going to neurosurgery?]

[There’s a lot of work to do in neurosurgery, so we better treat <Blank>’s disease ASAP.]

[Isn’t <Blank> exactly what neurosurgery needs?]

<HowDoITakeYourCerebralPons?>: [Xie Wanying, is that really your name?]

<Blank>: [Yes.]

<HowDoITakeYourCerebralPons?>: [Tell me why it’s blank?]

<Blank>: [I’m usually never online on QQ. I find it extremely bothersome.]

<1stRateAnastomosis>: [See! She’s definitely a no-nonsense girl!]

<StentComesToContendForFavor>: [Isn’t she the only girl in class 9 then? The one who is said to dominate the other 49 boys?]

The group boiled over again, [WOW!]

Some of the 49 boys also swarmed out, [Isn’t, Isn’t!]

<StentComesToContendForFavor>: [It isn’t?]
