"What in Sylvia's fucking name?"

Gray felt something nudging at his cheeks as he awoke from his peaceful slumber in a bed inside a small room after the horrifying pain of the ritual.

Instead of feeling the toll of the ritual's after effects, the Elf seemed to be perfectly fine with no lingering issues whatsoever much to his pleasant surprise, as if the painful process of the ritual did not even happen in the first place.

As a matter of fact, he felt absolutely rejuvenated, his entire faculties functioning well in normally good health.

Perhaps he has been out for quite some time and managed to recover during the period.

With his vision turning clear, Gray's eyes widen in surprise at seeing now being face to face at slightly close proximity with the stoic expression of a violet-haired child, her small delicate hand touching the bridge of the Elf's nose.

It was the same child, the Sentinel who Gray himself has given a portion of his soul during the Soul Transfusion ceremony that was conducted by Rarsu.

Taking a closer observation at the Sentinel, the first thing that he notices is her pair of little eyes, a clear absence of the irises and pupils, and constantly glowing in a violet light.

Indeed, she would have look like a normal human in the presence of the general public, if not for those unnatural eyes that makes her all too different and out of place.

Gray also took notice of her attire, a simple long-sleeved blue dress with a gray knee-length skirt and brown shoes.

Finally recovered and fully awake, Gray smiles friendlily as he greets the child-like Sentinel in a welcoming gesture. "Hello."

The Sentinel, upon seeing the recuperated state of the Elf, distance itself away to give some space for him to get up, still exhibiting an emotionless expression despite the Elf's kind motion.

As he continues his inspection at the Sentinel girl, Gray could not help but be impressed at seeing that this once lifeless body that has been laying inside a coffin for Divines knows how long has turned into a sentient being that's resonating with the gift of life.

As a result, Gray could not help but feel the utmost excitement, the endless possibilities of Magic truly are intriguing in this fantasy world that he is part of.

'Wow, this sure is remarkable.' Gray thought as he marveled at the Sentinel in deep awe. 'Magic surely is amazing no doubt. The power within your fingertips to shape reality, bending the fabrics of the world to seek whatever knowledge and power fitting in the pursuit of one's interest. I must learn more about this.'

With nothing else better to do, for now, Gray decided to have a little chat with the Sentinel as he peered on her status bar.

Arcane Sentinel

Lvl 13

Health: 1159 / 1159

Mana: 2132 / 2132

'Wait, no Stamina?' Gray thought with utmost curiosity at seeing the lack of that particular stat. 'Does this mean that they practically don't get tired? Wow, that's definitely Overpowered as they can keep on going without any consequences whatsoever.'

"So…" Gray said as he initiated the conversation with the human-looking magical construct. "Do you have a name?"

The Sentinel girl merely shook her head in acknowledgment, retaining her apathetic look at the same time as she stares the Elf in a reserved manner.

"Can't speak?" Gray questions her again, receiving another shaking of the head from the Sentinel. "But it appears that you understand me, correct?"

This time, the Sentinel nods in response, causing a simper to appear on Gray's face.

"That's pretty neat." Gray compliments her. "To think that you were technically born just recently but clearly possess the cognitive ability to understand my speech. Awesome indeed."

As Gray was about to continue his chat with the Sentinel, he then heard the door open as he saw Rarsu entering the room and carrying a bowl filled with cold water and a towel drape on his left shoulder.

Upon seeing the Elf seemingly recovered and well, the slit reptilian eyes of the Lizardling widen in disbelief as he instantly drops the bowl on the floor, causing a watery mess.

"By Almighty Arkanos," Rarsu uttered the Divine's name with utmost perplexity on his every tone. "Y-you're awake?"

The Lizardling's bewildered reaction was not gone unnoticed by Gray as the latter was baffled by why the former is reacting this way.

"What, you were expecting me to be dead or something?" The Elf sarcastically asks out of confusion.

"Not dead, simply passed out for a very long time," Rarsu answers him seriously as he approaches Gray. "Tell me, are you feeling alright already?"

"Yeah, I'm fine." Gray simply responds.

"Be more specific," Rarsu tells him in an insisting tone. "Are there any lingering effects from the ritual? Persisting pain? Residual burning sensations?"

"Uh, no, I'm fine, really." The Arcanist shook his head in answer.

Rarsu suddenly touches the Elf's forehead in an attempt to feel his body heat. The latter felt weirded out by the former's action.

Much to Rarsu's utmost surprise, he did not feel any feverish warmth coming from the Elf. In fact, Gray's body temperature is remarkably normal, feeling perfectly fine in fact…

As it should surely must not be.

The Arcane Sentinel simply remain still and as emotionless as ever, only watching the preceding that currently unfolds between the two Mages.

"Woah, calm down Rarsu." Gray fails to understand why Rarsu seems to be overreacting. "What's up with you all of a sudden? As you can see, I'm perfectly in good shape, so I don't get why you are acting all strange."

"You are the strange one!!" Rarsu releases his hand from the Elf and instantly retaliates loudly. Rarsu then points his finger at Gray accusingly, resulting in the latter being even more confused. "A Soul Transfusion obviously is an extremely detrimental affair to the one whose soul is being pulled out. A full transfusion will result in the person's certain death while a partial one, although not life-threatening, can still be extremely harmful to your body. As such, after the ritual, one will experience a condition known as Soul Fever. Its symptoms include lingering burning pain and an increase in body temperature. Not to mention being bed-ridden for weeks while experiencing the said symptoms. And now you're telling me that you're in perfectly good shape after merely asleep for about twenty minutes!?"

'Woah, just twenty minutes?' The Elf thought as he blinks in surprise. 'No wonder the guy is freaking out. If what Rarsu says about this Soul Fever is true, then his reaction is indeed justifiable. But wait, I'm supposed to be bed-ridden here for weeks?!'

"Soul Fever?" Gray says questioningly, although he is now seen to be frowning due to the information being given to him and attempts to shift the nature of the topic. "And you did not tell me about that before the ritual, why?"

"Because I don't want any risk of you refusing, but that's not the point." Rarsu instantly brings the essence of the conversation back into place. "This is really out of the ordinary. I can only conclude that your very soul must be something unique."

'Or perhaps.' Rarsu thought deep inside his mind as he rubs his chin in contemplation. 'Could it be? Is he possibly the one?"

"To be fair." Gray raised his point. "Even I myself don't know about all this, until now."

"I see." Rarsu nods in reply. "This is quite intriguing indeed, hehe."

"Right." Gray solely responds as he heard the Lizardling's chuckle. "So, what now then?"

"Your reward of course." The Lizardling now recovers from his shock regarding the matter and beams at the Elf. "I have a proposition for you. After all, you also seem like an eager child with deep hunger for knowledge, a favorable trait that all Mages should possess."

Gray crosses his arms as he attentively listens to what Rarsu has to say.

"Your case is quite intriguing if I dare so say myself. A soul that can heal itself in a short time? It's not every day that you hear such a phenomenon. In that case, I offer you to be my Mage Apprentice as well as granting a Sentinel of your own, the child over there." Rarsu smirks as he states the reward to Gray while pointing at the said Sentinel standing at the corner of the room.

"A Mage Apprentice?" Gray could not help but wonder. "But you're a Druid and I'm an Arcanist."

"And your point?" Rarsu said with a look of deadpan. "I have some tomes about Arcane spells from my collection if that's what you want. Not to mention, I can teach you other spells that are generally available for all the Mage classes and other tricks that you as a Mage should be aware of. Things such as the proper illustration of a Magic Circle, Alchemy and Enchanting. If you've got the aptitude, perhaps I'll teach you Sentmaturgy."

Indeed, the Apprenticeship unmistakably weighs on Gray's favor as he ponders the pros and cons meticulously.

True, he will be consuming a lot of his time here in Chadena if he accepts Rarsu's proposal. But the knowledge that he will be acquiring, the knowledge that he currently lacks, will prove to be valuable and extremely beneficial in the end.

Furthermore, he's not exactly in a hurry. The world seems peaceful enough and for all he knows, he's just an average Elf trying to appreciate what this fantasy-driven world has to offer so far.

"Besides, the University does not accept just anyone. You do know that you need a letter of recommendation from an esteemed Mage before being admitted right?" Rarsu added as Gray nods. "After your apprenticeship, I'll also write you one, what do you say?"

The weight on his favor just becomes heavier at Rarsu's final statement.

"Alright, I accept." Gray smiles in agreement, causing Rarsu to grin in utmost approval at the Elf's wise decision.

And with that, a new bond of Master and Apprentice has formed to this day, marking another chapter of the Elf's path in his conquest to the intricate art of Magic.
