Chapter 5: Purple and gold

Qi Yan took out a piece of paper and a pen from his pocket and gave them to Yang Tao, “Write a word here.”

Yang Tao did not care that the paper was wrinkled and wrote the character “Bai”. Even though the way he wrote looked cool, his handwriting was ugly.

“‘Bai’ has the meaning of longevity, it’s a good word. In addition, it consists of the words ‘white’ and ‘wood’ which mean brightness and support. This implies that you will be successful because you will meet a noble person.” Qi Yan gave the paper back to Yang Tao, “Congratulations, you will get what you wish for.”

“Really?” Qi Yan looked at Qi Yan in disbelief. It was the Cen family who was approached by many people. Would his family really get their attention?

“It’s up to you whether you believe it or not. I can only tell you that.” Qi Yan put his hands behind his back and smiled calmly. It seemed like Yang Tao was convinced and no longer doubted what Qi Yan said.

“Master, then can I ask something else?” Yang Tao said in a low voice, “Do you think that I will face any disaster in my life?”
Qi Yan looked at him from top to bottom and shook his head, “Life is both sweet and bitter, but your life is good. You don’t have to worry about some minor adversity in the future. What’s the point of knowing every single thing in the future?”

Most people might think that Qi Yan was just making an excuse because he didn’t know, but in Yang Tao’s eyes, they were profound advice from the master. So he thanked him profusely, “Thank you master, I understand.”

Qi Yan had a good impression of him after hearing that. His gaze fell on his shoulder as though he had brushed something off his shoulder. If someone who had the knowledge was there, they’d be able to see the black mist disappear between Qi Yan’s fingers.

Yang Tao only felt that his tight shoulders felt more relaxed and knew nothing else.

“Master, can you leave me your contact?” Yang Tao rubbed his hands together and suppressed the emotions in his heart, “I heard that an expert like you Master also knows feng shui. We could discuss the price…”

It was so natural for him to change to a formal tone.

He realized that his words were too crude and had tarnished the nobleness of the master, so Yang Tao immediately corrected himself, “If Master could come, it would fill our humble house
with glory and energy.”

It was the first time he was so directly flattered, Qi Yan felt that he was well-adapted. All these years of living with his master, he’d learned nothing but to be thick-skinned, had a steady state of mind and good acting skills. He was even better than his master.

“We should let fate decide this.” Qi Yan shook his head, “I see that the weather is not so good today, it might rain soon. It’s better if you go home early.”

Yang Tao raised his head and glanced at the sky. He didn’t understand how a sky like this showed any sign of rain, but he still smiled and said, “Master, how much did it cost…”

“Anything is fine.” Qi Yan smiled and it seemed like he didn’t care about money at all.

Look, this was indeed a grand master! He was transcendent and detached from the worldly things. All the scammers on the streets were scums! Even though the master didn’t care about money, he couldn’t let him make a loss.

Yang Tao took out his wallet and gave all his cash to Qi Yan, “Master, I hope you don’t mind. Please accept this.”

Qi Yan took two notes and returned them to Yang Tao, “You still have use for this money, take this back.”

Even though he didn’t understand why he gave him two notes back, Yang Tao took them back happily and succeeded in getting the master’s contact number.

“Master, safe trip back.” Yang Tao looked on as the master left. He only stopped looking when he could no longer see him.

“Young master, the towing company called and said that there’s a problem in the middle of the journey. It will take ten minutes or so to arrive.” The driver said as he took off his ashened gloves. His expression was hard to read.

He’d seen his young master getting scammed, so his face did not look good. But he was aware of his young master’s temperament. He was stubborn. So as a driver, he could only watch as he threw away his money.

“What…” Yang Tao frowned and was about to ask his friends to pick him up when he heard thunder over his head. Dark clouds instantly covered the sun as the sky darkened.

Both the driver and Yang Tao looked at the sky and were dumbfounded when they saw the clouded sky.

Was it really going to rain?

The two of them had heard what the fortune-teller said and looked at each other in shock.

Finally, they managed to hail a taxi and got back home. The cost of the ride was 182 yuan. He took the 18 yuan change from the taxi driver and stood in front of his house, stunned.

The master was magical, he’d purposely left him two hundred yuan because he knew that’s how much he needed!

“Son, it’s raining heavily outside, what are you doing standing by the door? The weather forecast is never accurate, they said that it’s a sunny day today, but it ended up raining so heavily,” Mother Yang saw her son holding the wrinkled notes in his hands and was in a daze, so she walked to his side and looked around, “Did something happen?”

“Mom,” Yang Tao looked at his mom excitedly, “I met an expert!”

“What do you mean?” Mother Yang was shocked by her son’s sudden excitement. Her native accent was revealed subconsciously.

Yang Tao told his mom about the incident. Even though Mother Yang thought it was strange, she thought it was just a coincidence. When Father Yang came back, she mentioned it to him.

“When has this kid ever met a reliable person? Father Yang had no faith in his son’s intelligence. So after listening to what his wife said, he said disapprovingly, “And how old is the master, twenty something? All the real experts in Capital City were all in their sixties. Even their known disciples would be thirty to forty years old. Would this twenty-something year old kid be more capable than them?”

“Besides, if you can bump into an expert so easily on the street, is he still an expert?” Father Yang waved his hand, “This person must be a scammer.”

“During dinner, Tao Tao also told me that he wanted to invite this young master to look at the feng shui in our house. Should I tell him to forget about it?” Mother Yang was a little hesitant. It was rare that their son willingly contributed to the family. Even though the master was not reliable, the thought was still good. Perhaps it was not so nice to tell him directly that they didn’t want him to invite the master.

“No, not only are we inviting him, we should welcome him warmly,” Father Yang snorted, “I want him to know what kind of scammer he’d invited, so that he won’t be easily scammed in the future.”

It’s fine if someone had taken the initiative to scam him, but his son had basically asked to be scammed. As a father, how could he be happy?

“He’ll learn from his mistakes. He’ll only learn when he’s slapped by the truth,” Father Yang resented himself for spoiling his son and made him into a person who couldn’t think for himself. He had achieved nothing in his twenties.

“Is that appropriate?” Mother Yang was hesitant for her son to be confronted with the truth like that.

“A loving mother will produce a failure of a son!”

“What are you saying?” Mother Yang raised her eyebrows and slapped Father Yang’s arm, “Is it only my responsibility to educate our son? When our son has a flaw, is it my fault? How could you?!”

Father Yang held his sore arm and shrank his head silently. He didn’t dare speak nonsense again.

When Qi Yan received Yang Tao’s call, he was playing a game. His two teammates had caused an attack from the boss, causing half of the team to die.

He couldn’t help but curse and left the team. He went back to the main server and noticed that there were two missed calls on his phone. It was an unknown number so he didn’t return the call.

But soon, the person called again. When Qi Yan picked up, he realized that it’s the young man from a few days ago.

“Sure, I’ll be there.” Qi Yan hung up and tossed the phone on the sofa, “Business is delivered to the door.”

He majored in Financial Management in university, but he was not interested in this field. He preferred to tell fortunes and study feng shui. Before his master passed away, he made him promise not to advise or change the feng shui of others before he’s eighteen.

Now that he’s an adult and developed an inexplicable ability to know others’ fortune from their appearance, he’s destined to work as a fortune-teller.

Besides…

He knew that in his master’s heart, he still wished he would continue his work. Even though he didn’t understand why his master stayed in a small rural town with his ability, it’s not important at this point.

As his master’s disciple and adopted son, he would not let his work be lost.

Walking to the front of his master’s photo, he put a stick of incense for him and smiled, “Old master, you can watch without worries from heaven.”

The old man in the photo was wearing a blue cap. The pair of gentle eyes on his thin face watched him silently.

Qi Yan smiled and opened the curtains. The moonlight immediately shone into the room, making his face crystal clear.

In other people’s eyes, it was a beautiful night scene outside of the window, but in Qi Yan’s eyes, it was a prosperous city with purple and gold mist.
