Forty-eight day (1)

Liang Yan practiced every day after she accepted the task of singing for the special episode of Benevolence. After shooting the drama, she rushed to practice. Others practiced openly, while she sneaked away, hiding from people, only Jiang Mu was present.

Liang Yan met the producer a few times while on the set, and the producer was very concerned about her progress, showing her a smile and a confident attitude toward her. Many actresses and actors in the industry sang their own theme songs, and they weren’t required to have the proficiency of a professional singer.

Moreover, the production would provide the actors with songs that are simple in melody and tone so that it would be easily recorded. The actress would sing a few times, and they could tune it later with the autotune.

Liang Yan had the urge to dig a hole on the spot and bury herself.

It was better to bury herself, so she didn’t have to sing.

In the studio lounge, Liang Yan listened to a short recording of her song. Her head hung low, emitting a low aura.

Jiang Mu gave her a glass of water as he comforted her, “Don’t be discouraged. Although you can’t sing, you can trust the autotune’s skill.”

Liang Yan bowed her head lower while clenching her hands. She said, “No matter how they refined it, it will still sound ugly. If the autotune is that amazing, why do we still have singers?”

“It’s not that bad… not really that bad…” Jiang Mu swore. “You’re not in tune, but it’s not that hard to listen to.”

To be honest, whenever Liang Yan opened her mouth widely to sing, you would think she sang well if you didn’t listen to her voice. But if you hear her voice, you would realize that her voice was clear, sweet and soft. It was very good but the drawback was, every single word was out of tune like a kindergarten kid learning to sing for the first time. She was so cute when she ran out of tune.

The out-of-tune voice coupled with the severe expression made people happy and had a sense of being cute. Jiang Mu was taken aback when he realized that he found Liang Yan cute and humorous, making him think his fan filter was too thick.

Liang Yan checked out Jiang Mu from head to foot. She stared at Jiang Mu all over, making him feel weird, so he covered his collar. “You… what do you want?!”

Liang Yan thought that she had never heard Jiang Mu sing. “How about you sing a few lines?”

Jiang Mu heaved a sigh of relief, grabbed the lyrics sheet from Liang Yan’s hands, and tried singing a few lines.

“How is it?” he asked expectantly after singing.

After listening to him, Liang Yan realized how much torture Jiang Mu had to endure whenever he listened to her sing every day. She sighed long and said, “Just forget it.”

–.

Liang Yan believed that no one noticed her sneaking away to a small corner to practice her singing in between shoots in the set, until, one day, a secretly filmed video of her singing went viral.

In the video, Liang Yan sat on a pony, headphones in her ears. She held a lyric sheet in her hand, her foot tapping on the ground, following the beat of the music.

She was listening to the music, her fingers on the sheet, then, she suddenly opened her mouth and started to sing.

A marketing account posted this video of Liang Yan with the caption, “The soulful singing of a popular female star, everyone come and experiences it (remember to turn down the volume). Pick your nose.jpg.”

This was an obviously mocking video. The “Song of the Dead” mocks all the small actresses who always tried hard to portray perfection. This had become a topic of interest in countless jokes such as “The patient was dying, but when he heard XXX song playing on the television, he moved and turned off the TV.”

At the video’s intro, the beautiful Liang Yan was holding a lyric sheet. Her head was bobbing up and down, following the rhythm of the music.

Then, as she listened, her fingers moved on the lyric sheet, and she opened her mouth, singing along.

“When I met you, my world suddenly took on color. Your smile is so bright, embellishing my dark night. I found out what it means to fall in love, at the moment of meeting, oh~~~”

The video was thirty seconds long, and the actress’s song lasted twenty-five seconds.

It sounded like rap, at the same time, like she was shouting. Obviously, the sincerity and feelings were evident, but the tone was like an intangible floating cloud. From the first word, it began to drift farther and farther, from the North Pole to the South Pole, then it flew to Sahara. It was like traveling around the world for the past twenty-five seconds.

At the end of the video, the actress seemed to realize that she was out of tune, so she cleared her throat, coughing. When she was about to speak, the video stopped abruptly.

The comment section wailed:

[Ooooooohhhhhhh, mom! I finally came to life…]

[Oh my God, what did I just hear… I can’t breathe!]

[Ah, my ears!]

Then, as if planned, several marketing accounts released sneak peek videos of Liang Yan one after another with a variety of Weibo captions only to remind everyone at the end to turn down the volume before opening the video.

Soon, the hottest phrase was: #Liang Yan’s singing brings back the dead to life. It hit the hot search list.

This was the first negative hot search after Liang Yan became popular.

Liang Yan was at home now, memorizing the lines for tomorrow’s shooting. She wasn’t aware of the hot search when Jiang Mu called her.

“My God, someone secretly took a video of you!”

Liang Yan cursed when she saw the video.

Who was the shameless person who did this to her?!
