Fiftieth day: Divorce (1)

Lu Lincheng’s phone notification rang, informing him that he received money to his Alipay account.

Jiang Mu informed him that it was the lesson fee for Liang Yan’s singing lesson.

He stared at the cold, remittance figure as if she couldn’t wait to distance herself from him. His heart grew cold all of a sudden.

The shooting for “Benevolence” went smoothly, the only exception was when Lu Lincheng visited the set. Liang Yan continued to give full play to her role as “Liang Yi,” and her acting became increasingly refined. Even Zhong Zi who acted with her the most, also improved. His acting in this drama was a level higher than his previous idol dramas.

The director’s birthday happened to coincide with the team’s shooting period. After so many days of filming, the crew was tired, so, the young actors in the crew received a pleasant surprise. The crew decided to celebrate the director’s birthday and only shot for half a day. They planned to have dinner tonight.

The venue for the dinner celebration was a star-rated hotel in the city. With the exception of Tong Lei who wasn’t able to join them, all the leading actors and directors in the crew attended and were already waiting in the private room. Because everyone had been together for a while now, the atmosphere was lively as they chatted and ate happily.

The director loved to drink wine, so everyone at the table accompanied him to toast and drank two glasses of wine.

Liang Yan learned her lesson when she auditioned at Gudong City last time. She wasn’t a drinker, so she fooled everyone with a glass of juice in her hand. But when they had the last toast, they found out she was drinking juice.

“Sister Yan, you don’t drink?” Zhong Ze, who sat beside Liang Yan asked first.

“Uh, oh… I’m not good at drinking,” she said, glancing at the others with embarrassment.

“It’s okay, I won’t force you to drink. Go and just drink juice,” the director said. Except when filming, the director wasn’t as strict and he was easy to talk to.

Usually, female stars in the circle put a lot of effort to rise in the ranks. No matter how cold the person was, they couldn’t avoid drinking with investors when they accompanied them to dinner no matter how famous they were. Basically, most stars had a good alcohol tolerance. Everyone in the crew knew each other, so Liang Yan was embarrassed. Also, the director found out and didn’t even force her to drink. Even Wang Yili, who was the heroine of the drama, toasted with the director for several rounds. Because of this, Liang Yan poured herself two glasses of wine and toasted with the director.

The director laughed. “You flatter me.”

Liang Yan raised her glass and blushed.

When Jiang Mu went to pick up Liang Yan after dinner, she was still very active.

With a look of satisfaction, Liang Yan entered the car and languidly lay on the leather seat of the car.

This was the best production crew she had ever joined.

In the past, 18th-tier actors in the crew had no rights. Every time something went wrong, it was them who was scolded first regardless of who was at fault. They would never retort, and they would bear all the anger and frustrations.  They always feared this line uttered by the director, “You at the back, if you can’t do it, let’s change actors!”

The entertainment industry was a very competitive industry, especially in the film and television base. Even if it was an inconspicuous character, people eyed it. As long as you couldn’t perform properly, people would jump at the chance to rise to the top. Everyone was at risk.

Liang Yan stared at the car window, watching the street lamps as they passed by. Suddenly, the phone on her lap rang.

Liang Yan checked who was calling, then frowned at the caller ID.

Jiang Mu asked, “Who is calling?”

Liang Yan replied, “Ex-husband.”

Liang Yan still picked up the phone. “Hello.”

Lu Lincheng seemed to breathe a sigh of relief upon hearing her voice. Then, his cold voice echoed through the receiver. “Liang Yan, where are you? It’s already late, and you’re not at home.”

Liang Yan: “Huh?”

——

In the underground garage of her building, Liang Yan stared at the man who appeared inexplicably in front of her.

Jiang Mu left already per Liang Yan’s instructions because she thought Lu Lincheng had already left.

Lu Lincheng stared at Liang Yan. He came tonight to her for singing lessons. If she practiced more, the recording of the song wouldn’t be a problem. Tong Lei informed him that the crew took a half-day holiday today, so he came to teach her.

Unfortunately, she wasn’t at home, so he waited until late at night for her.
