A Short Story, the Prince’s Speculation

A carriage on the road of the Marquis de Grandeur’s territory was running towards the royal capital. The carriage was emblazoned with the coat of arms of an eagle, the sign of the royal family.

Prince Richard was looking out the window resting his chin on his hand. He looked like he was thinking about something.

“Your Highness. How is Miss Katarina?”

When Will, the knight escort, speaks to him, Richard turns languidly to Will.

“She’s different. The appraisal said it was a derivative of earth magic, plant magic.”

Richard can use appraisal, in addition to fire and wind magic. Those who have a special eye called an appraisal eye can be a judge of the magic attribute judgment ritual.

“That’s right… However, apart from Siegfried’s room, even though she’s just a child, looking into the room of Miss Katarina was too much.”

Richard snorts. It is a breach of etiquette for someone of noble status to visit a woman’s room. With the exception of one’s parents, brothers, and sisters, or fiances…

“It’s against etiquette, even for royalty. But for some reason, I was attracted to it. I was going to give up if I was refused.”

He straightens up, crosses his arms, and looks Will in the eye. His piercing line of sight makes Will tremble. He holds a dignity belonging to a king, unlike a 9-year-old boy.

“By the way, is there any truth to your story? That there are two ladies who use light magic. I first visited Baron Campbell’s house and appraised Miss Charlotte. She was judged as non-attribute.”

“There is no doubt about it. I have gone back in time.”

The executioner, who had witnessed the execution of Katarina ten years later, was Will. Executioners were obliged to wear a white hood in order to avoid future troubles with the bereaved family of the executed person. Because his face had been hidden, Katarina had shown no particular reaction when seeing his face.

“When I heard your story, I couldn’t believe it…”

After Katarina had disappeared with lingering dew on the decapitation platform, lightning had struck the decapitation platform. Will, who had been on the decapitation platform, had been electrocuted by lightning and died like Katarina.

(*another way to translate “dew” would be tears. Basically, it’s trying to say how soon after this event occurred)

The people who had been abusive toward Katarina up till then had suddenly grown quiet until finally, murmurs had broken out saying, “This is the god of light’s punishment.”

“Was Miss Katarina falsely accused?”

This became a topic widely discussed, however, this was a historical tale to be told another time…

“But why don’t you remember the face and name of the executed lady? Now we have to appraise all the aristocratic ladies throughout the kingdom.”

Will did not remember the young lady’s face or name that had been executed due to the jolt of the electric shock. He did, however, remember Charlotte.

“I lost my life to lightning and was wrapped in a band of light. If you call it the circle of reincarnation, then so be it. But there was a distortion in the middle, and I fell into it.

He had noticed that it was the world from 10 years ago. Now 17 years old, he had become the Dauphin’s knight-in-arms and told Richard that he had gone backward in time and given details of the events that preceded in order to be trusted.

Even Richard, who had been skeptical at first, had decided to trust Will because of the events that would take place as Will described.

“As a result, there was no daughter with the attribute of light magic, but Miss Charlotte has no attribute. It’s conceivable that she could change to the light attribute in the future.”

“Then, is the fiancée candidate Miss Charlotte?”

Richard shakes his head.

“In the future, there may be someone who will change the attributes, or there may be a young lady who will be able to use light magic. I shall not decide on a fiancée until I have confirmation.”

Will didn’t remember the face and name of the executed young lady, but he did remember the rumors that she might be falsely accused. He didn’t want Richard to make the same mistake in this life, so he wilfully decided to tell him that he had reincarnated.

“By the way, Your Highness seems to have taken a liking to the brother and sister pair of the Marquis Grandeur, right?”

“That’s right. Siegfried seems to be very talented, so he has a promising future. Besides, the Marquis Grandeur has a vast territory. It has abundant resources and the highest grain yield in the country. I’m hoping that they will be able to back me up. Miss Katarina…”

Will looks quizzically at Richard, who had stopped speaking.

“Miss Katarina is cute. She looks a lot like the Marquess, who is touted as the flower of social circles. When she grows up, she will grow up beautifully.”

His cheeks were tinted a slight pink as he said this, and he returned to the face of a 9-year-old boy.

I remember when I visited the Marquis de Grandeur. Katarina greeted me like a lady while quivering. I thought she was innocent and cute when she looked down and smiled shyly.

“She said she likes roses. Would she like it if I gave her one the next time we meet?”

The carriage was about to enter the territory of the royal capital soon.
