Chapter 4: Moving

When Wen Nuan woke up again, it was almost dark, and all the things that could be moved at home had been moved. Only the wooden bed where she slept was left, the original cabinets and tables were removed, and the wood hut became empty.

Wen Ran saw Wen Nuan wake up, she immediately went to bring her the medicine warming on the stove to drink.

Wen Nuan took the medicine, took a sip, and knew what medicine was in it. The prescription was quite effective, but it was not good enough. She drank it all in one breathe.

"Third Sister, we can move." Wen Ran said after she saw Wen Nuan drink up the medicine. Looking around at the wood hut, she felt a little bit reluctant.

I won’t even be able to live in this wood hut in the future!

"Third Sister will definitely let you live in a big house in the future. A big blue brick house, warm in the winter and cool in the summer." Wen Nuan felt her reluctance and comforted.

Wen Ran laughed after hearing this: "Okay, a big house like First Branch's big house."

Wen Nuan smiled, and said nothing.

First Branch's house? The house she builds is naturally better than that house.

"Sister Nuan has taken the medicine? Grandma will help you dress." Madam Wang walked in at this time and did not wait for Wen Nuan's consent, she directly wrapped Wen Nuan's body with a worn quilt. A cloth towel was wrapped around her head, only a pair of eyes were exposed.

Wen Jiarui walked in at this time, directly picked up Wen Nuan, put her on the pallet parked outside the courtyard, and then went to remove the wooden bed Wen Nuan slept on and put it on the side of the pallet: "Sister Nuan, Sister Ran, let’s go, let’s live in a new house!"

“Okay!" Wen Ran said happily.

"Mother, you get in the cart too, I will push you over."

"I don't need it, I'll just walk over." Madam Wang waved her hand and strode forward, walking a little eagerly without turning her head back.

Wen Jiarui pushed up the cart and walked towards the end of the village.

Out of the corner of her eye,Wen Nuan saw Madam Wang raise her hand and wipe tears from her eyes, and her heart suddenly felt as heavy as if it were crushed by a stone.

Wen Nuan turned her head and glanced at the big blue brick house.

This is the big blue brick house built by Madam Wang's dowry shop, but because the original owner needed money to see a doctor, they sold it to Madam Zhu's branch.

Not only the house, but also the shop and fields were sold to Madam Zhu's branch.

How can Madam Wang not be sad?

In the future, she will build a bigger and better house for Madam Wang to live in.

When they left, the door to the upper room was closed. Madam Zhu thought she was unlucky. That was just fine!

It's better to have nothing to do with each other in the future, Wen Nuan thought.

The straw hut is at the end of the village, and it took about a quarter of an hour to arrive.

The straw hut has been turned into a bamboo house by Wen Jiarui and his brothers in the same village.

The wall is made of green bamboo, which has just been cut down. The roof is paved with thatch, and the ground is yellow mud that has just been weeded. The air is still filled with the fragrance of bamboo and the fragrance of mud.

In such a hurry to move, for this house they only built a large room on the frame of the original straw hut.

At this time, there are several men about the same age as Wen Jiarui, and the two boys, Wen Chun and Wen Hou, using bamboo to surround the yard.

It is close to the back of the mountain. They are worried that if they don’t enclose a yard, wild boars and the like will break into the house at night.

Wen Ran saw them and greeted loudly: "Uncle Guang, Uncle Quan, Uncle Rong!"

The uncles heard her sweet calls.

Wen Nuan also greeted.

They got a few people's smiles and praise, and then they continued to work.

They are all farmers, a good hand at work. Wen Nuan could see that one of them is responsible for cutting bamboo, one is responsible for making bamboo doors, two are responsible for making bamboo fences, and three are responsible for putting up fences. Each of them is very skilled and moves quickly.

Sister Ran conscientiously ran to find work.

Wen Jiarui carried Wen Nuan into the house and put her on the wooden bed over moved from the wood hut: "Sister Nuan, sit down, and Dad will make your bed right away."

Wen Jiarui went out, moved two benches in, placed them in another corner of the house, and then moved two slats and put them on the benches. One bed frame was set up.

He tied a piece of bamboo to the legs of the four stools, hung the patched mosquito net, and laid out the worn-out mattress. The whole process took less than half an hour.

Wen Jiarui carried Wen Nuan: "Sister Nuan, you can lie down again, and you will have food in awhile."

Wen Nuan nodded.

Wen Jiarui strode out to help enclose the courtyard wall.

It was completely dark that night, and everyone was busy.

Madam Wu borrowed some rice noodles from a neighbor’s house, cooked porridge, steamed buns, and went to the vegetable garden to pick some vegetables.

Old Man Wen brought a portion of meat in the evening and said that he had bought too much and could not finish eating it.

He dropped the portion of meat and left without giving anyone a chance to speak.

Madam Wang knew that he was secretly subsidizing her family, and brought it to give the people in the village they had asked to help, so that they would not look too shabby.

She really hates and loves this man!

Madam Wang gave the meat to Madam Wu, and Madam Wu made a meal with these simple ingredients, to thank the villagers who helped build the bamboo house.

After serving the food, Madam Wang and Madam Wu took the children to eat in the house.

Wen Jiarui accompanied several villagers to eat in the yard.

Wen Nuan glanced at her own bowl, then glanced at other people's bowls.

Thick meat porridge filled her bowl, there is some minced meat in the porridge, and it smells very sweet.

Other people’s bowls are all porridge water, real porridge water, very clear, and not a grain of rice can be seen.

Madam Wang happily said: "It's dinner!"

Everyone held up the bowl and drank a sip of hot porridge water contentedly.

There were three steamed buns on the plate. Madam Wang picked up one and handed it to Wen Nuan: "Sister Nuan, you eat a steamed bun. Brother Luo and Sister Ran each have half of one, and Brother Chun and Brother Hou also have half."

In her memory, their family hasn’t eaten steamed buns for a long time. If it weren’t for moving today, when it was to be a new start for the family, Madam Wang would not give up money making three steamed buns for the children.

Wen Nuan took the steamed bun, but didn’t eat it.

Wen Chun is the eldest son. He looks very similar to Wen Jiarui. He shook his head: "Grandma, I'm not hungry. You can eat my steamed bun."

Wen Hou's belly was so hungry that it screamed, and he drank the porridge water in one breathe: "Grandma, I'm not hungry, you and mother will share the buns! I'm going to sleep."

It’s late at night, and I don’t know I’m hungry when I'm asleep. Why do I eat so much? It's a waste of food.

"Second Brother, wait." Wen Nuan split the steamed bun into two, put them in Wen Chun and Wen Hou's bowls respectively, and then used a spoon to add a spoonful of thick meat porridge to each of Madam Wang and Madam Wu's bowls.

When she was about to add to the bowls of the other four children, the faces of several people changed!

Madam Wang reacted and quickly grabbed her hand: "Sister Nuan, what are you doing?"

Wen Nuan said: "Meat porridge, let's eat together."

From the memory of the original owner, the family hasn’t eaten meat for half a year.

Don’t talk about eating meat, don’t even know how long they have not eaten a full meal.

"No, Sister Nuan, you are not in good health. Eating some meat is just to nourish your body. We don't need to eat it. Grandma has eaten outside before, and now she is thirsty. I will just drink some porridge and water."

Madam Wu also nodded hurriedly: "Mother has already eaten a bowl of meat porridge when she was cooking just now. We are not hungry. Sister Nuan, be good, you eat it yourself!"

The two said that they should spoon the meat porridge in the bowl that has not been dissolved by porridge water back into Wen Nuan's bowl.

Wen Chun put half of the steamed bun back on the plate: "Sister Nuan, brother is not hungry, I have eaten at the master’s house, you eat!"

Third Sister is in poor health, so she should eat more. If she keeps her body well, everything will be fine.

Wen Hou also put the steamed bun back on the plate: "Sister Nuan, Second Brother also ate at the master’s house. Second Brother is so full that he has a throat problem, and will vomit when eating. You can eat it yourself, eat a little bit more, and be full. After you have eaten well, your health will be good. When your health is good, Second Brother will take you up the mountain to dig out bird eggs!"

After speaking, he pretended to have a full hiccup!

Wen Ran and Wen Luo are also busy expressing that they are not hungry.

If Third Sister is hungry, then her health will be bad, they will have to spend money to see a doctor, and she could even die. It doesn't matter if they eat less as long as their sister is in good health.

With a calm and resolute face, Wen Nuan put down the bowl: "If you don't eat, then I won't eat either."

She just sat there with a firm expression, as if she would not eat before they ate.

Wen Family: "..."

Why did Sister Nuan seem to change after she fell into the water?

Not so strong before!

No matter how many people persuaded, Wen Nuan would not eat. In the end, everyone couldn't help it. Under her eyes, the family grudgingly ate half a steamed bun with a spoonful of meat porridge.

It’s enough food to make a whole other meal for them!

Wen Nuan watched them until they finished eating, only then she ate the remaining half bowl of thick meat porridge.
