With this thought weighing his heart, Yuan Shaozhou looked at Xia Yang and directly asked, “This Zhu Tong, I heard you know him?”

Xia Yang gaffed, then replied, “His family has business dealings with mine. We met once at a banquet.”

Yuan Shaozhou was puzzled, “Once?”

“Yes, he’s very sickly. So Uncle Zhu seldom took him to socialize. He usually didn’t even go out, I don’t know why Uncle Zhu let him this time…”He said while showing a worried and puzzled look.

Yuan Shaozhou laughed immediately, thinking, ‘What’s so incomprehensible about this?’

Since Zhu Tong was so sick that he had to go to hospital often, unable to lift his hands or shoulders like someone who can drop dead at any given moment. And yet, his father sent him to a county far away from A City. This meant that there’s a high probability that he’s an abandoned son who was left to fend for himself.

Definitely an unfavored child at home.

He was worried about whether he would get into trouble with someone he shouldn’t have. Now it seemed that he was worrying too much.

So many days have passed, and yet no one came to him because he caused that to Zhu Tong.

Even if someone wanted to investigate, those gangsters who were still in the police station were still counting on him to get them out. They definitely wouldn’t confess at all.

As long as he didn’t make a move to Zhu Tong for a while, there’s nothing to worry about.

Thinking about this, he looked at Xia Yang again.

Xia Yang was looking at Shao Ming who was sitting by the window with his back to him. Even if he was rejected, Xia Yang was still reluctant to part with Shao Ming.

Yuan Shaozhou’s eyes darkened, and he ground his teeth as he watched Shao Ming eating boiled fish.

‘Shao Ming, you are doomed.’

Meanwhile, the three people who were enjoying their food did not notice that there were two other people passing by outside the window.

After eating and coming out of the restaurant, Zhu Tong was in a good mood.

He looked at the progress bar on the system interface. His favorability value increased by 1%. Although he didn’t understand it, he was shocked.

It’s just a measly 1%, but no matter how small the mosquito legs are, they are still meat1!

All his emotions were shown on his face. Seeing that the man who originally was listless now obviously in a happy mood, Shao Ming was also greatly shocked.

Could it be that this person’s lack of energy before was not because he did not do well in the exam, but because he was hungry?

On the second day’s exam, Zhu Tong performed well.

Because of the change in mood, he was no longer sleepy after the exam.

After the English test, he separated the desks and went back. In the aisle next to him, there was still a group of people who were still “discussing” their answer.

They took Shao Ming’s test paper as the correct answer and estimated their English scores.

But Zhu Tong was not interested in this answer. He looked through the gap between the crowd and looked at the smiling people.

Shao Ming let his test papers fly around in the hands of different people, and he didn’t feel bad when they were crumpled and messed up. The surroundings were noisy, but he was very personable.

‘He smiles like this all day, won’t his face be stiff?’ Zhu Tong was very puzzled.

Shao Ming seemed to have the same attitude towards everyone.

System: ‘You can learn from him.’

Zhu Tong: “…”

Nope. Impossible. He can’t fake a smile like that.

He had been alone for a long time. Except when facing specific people — such as his twin sister – he didn’t know what kind of expression to maintain when facing unfamiliar people.

That’s why his face looked flat most of the time.

As if aware of his gaze, the people in the crowd suddenly looked at him.

He didn’t know if this was an illusion, but Zhu Tong felt that when Shao Ming also looked at him. And… the flat curve of his lips seemed to be… slightly up.

‘Is he greeting me?’

Feeling this way, Zhu Tong nodded then looked away.

The next day, the English test paper for the preliminary test has been graded.

In the classroom before English class, grades were discussed everywhere.

“I checked the answers, but I made a lot of mistakes in the multiple-choice questions. I’m not good at English.”

“The listening test is so difficult this time. There are so many unfamiliar vocabularies and the speaking speed is so fast that I can’t understand them at all.”

“It’s okay, it’s okay, it’s not important anyway.”

Amidst the discussion, the English teacher walked into the classroom. She wore a pleasant smile, and her cheeks were flushed a bit red.

“This test is not easy, but the grades of this class is not bad.”

The English teacher cut to the chase.

Holding a stack of answer sheets in her hand, she looked at the two people in the back row of the classroom. “In this English test, there are seven people in our class who scored above 140. One of them got a full score, one scored 149, and the other scored 1482. With your own efforts, the average English score of this class has been raised to the first place in the whole grade.”

As soon as her words fell, the whole class was in an uproar.

First place in the whole grade.

They didn’t even make it through their first semester of second year!

Who is it?

Everyone followed the English teacher’s line of sight.

The English teacher said, “Zhu Tong, come and get your answer sheet. Congratulations! You scored 149 points.”

“Huh?”

“Zhu Tong?”

“Is it really him?

“His score is that high?”

They had already acquiesced that the one with the full score must be Shao Ming.

Zhu Tong snuck a glance at his ever-calm deskmate, then walked to the podium and took his answer sheet.

The English teacher said with a smile, “Your point was deducted for your composition. Remember to use more complicated grammar in the next test. Sentence patterns are very important.”

Zhu Tong nodded and returned to his seat.

The English teacher continued to hand out other people’s answer sheets.

But no one cared about grades anymore.

As soon as Zhu Tong returned to his seat, the people sitting next to him surrounded him.

“Zhu Tong, can I have a look at your answer sheet?”

“Wow, is it really 149? Isn’t this amazing?

“I think you’ll be ranked second in our grade.”

“Dage, please help me. I will rely on you for my English dictation in the future.”

Zhu Tong: “…”

The more enthusiastic they were, the more Zhu Tong admired Shao Ming. He felt a deeper understanding of Shao Ming now.

Facing such a group of noisy classmates, he really didn’t know how to handle them.

He couldn’t even keep smiling, so he could only say in embarrassment, “It’s not… I’m not a Study God or something like that. Only my English is a little better than the rest.”

“Wuwuwu—”

Zhu Tong: “…”

He thought he didn’t express it clearly, and clarified it, “It’s not a little better, it’s a lot better. I did very poorly in the other subjects.”

“I see, your Mathematics score should be 140, right? I understand.”

“You haven’t passed 270 in science, right? It’s still amazing.”

“Yeah, true study gods are humble. Lao Lu once got 138 in a Math test, and he also said that he didn’t do well in the test.”

“…”

After a moment of silence, Zhu Tong continued, “That’s a coincidence, I should get 38 in Math.”

Others: “…”

“How is it possible? Your English score is so good, how can you get 38 in Math?”

“Boss, you are too modest.”

“The results haven’t come out yet. How do you know how many points you got? Boss, you must be joking.”

They made it clear that they didn’t believe it. The boy in front of him – Lu Zheyu – suddenly turned around, looked at Zhu Tong, and asked, “Do you see your grades yourself?”

“No.” Zhu Tong said.

But he counted.

Apparently, Lu Zheyu also thought he was joking, so he let out an “oh” indifferently, and turned his head away.

Zhu Tong: “…”

What he said was true. Why does no one believe it?

—Actually there was one believer.

When the exam was over, Shao Ming glanced at Zhu Tong’s answer sheet. He didn’t know how many questions he got right, but he must have missed more than half of the questions.

But this did not affect the spread of Zhu Tong’s excellent grades in the school.

In the office, the grade director Yang Can returned to the office after breakfast, just in time to see the English teacher sorting out the answer sheets.

Seeing Zhu Tong’s high score of 149 in English, he deeply felt that he had read the right person.

Zhu Tong was indeed a good boy who loved to learn and worked hard to make progress. He was another star of hope for their school after Shao Ming!

However, when the results of other subjects came out, Yang Can was stunned.

Zhu Tong, Chinese: 94 points.

“…”

‘It doesn’t matter, it’s normal to have one or two weaknesses.’

The Mathematics results came out, Zhu Tong: 38 points.

Yang Can continued to be flabbergasted.

Finally the last subject, Comprehensive Science’s results, came out.

Physics: 41 points.

Biology: 33 points.

Chemistry: 50 points.

Total score: 401 points.

Grade ranking: 218th.

The grade director was completely desperate.

His star of hope was gone.

In the evening, during the first period of self-study, Shi Wenshu arranged for the students in Class 3, and called Zhu Tong to the office alone.

On the not-so-spacious homeroom teacher’s desk, six answer sheets were neatly placed on the table.

This varied score really… didn’t look like a result from the same person.

On the answer sheet, except for Chinese and English, he didn’t get half of the questions right. These include the multiple choice questions.

And the hard questions in the Mathematics test that had been left empty.

Most of the questions were not done, but all the questions that were done were correct.

Shi Wenshu has been teaching for more than ten years, and has never encountered such an answer sheet. He looked at Zhu Tong with a complicated face.

“Laoshi asks you, do you dislike Mathematics and Sciences?”

Otherwise, why did he fully answer English and Chinese, but more than half of the Math and Sciences were left empty?

Zhu Tong glanced at his answer sheet and shook his head. “No.”

Although those two subjects were difficult, he didn’t dislike it.

Shi Wenshu: “…”

He looked sincere, and Shi Wen continued to ask, “Then did you make an agreement with someone? How many points did you agree to take the test? That’s why you didn’t finish answering it all?”

This was what the English teacher told him.

She (conspired) said that his student was actually a top student who could control his score!

Shi Wenshu didn’t know how the English teacher came up with this idea, but he was convinced.

Otherwise, how to explain Zhu Tong’s weird answer sheet?

But Zhu Tong shook his head again. “Not at all.”

Shi Wenshu: “…”

He was very patient, and continued to ask softly, “Then why don’t you answer these questions? Why left it empty?”

Zhu Tong said in a completely serious manner: “Because I don’t know how to do it.”

Shi Wenshu: “… “

He felt that it was a bit difficult for him to communicate with this student.

“Alright,” Shi Wenshu rubbed his forehead and said, “Laoshi didn’t mean to blame you. Even if there are questions that you can’t do, you should try to finish the multiple-choice questions, so that you may get a higher score.”

“…”

Zhu Tong was silent for a while, as if he didn’t quite agree with this notion. He thought for a while in silence, then raised his head and said, “My Grandfather told me, ‘don’t jump to conclusions easily when you are uncertain’.”

In Zhu Tong’s mind, this principle should hold steady even when doing tests.

Shi Wenshu: “…”

A small fortune is still a fortune.

2

max is 150 for a single subject. If it’s Comprehensive Science, it’s 100 each, so maximum 300. The total max score is 750 (usually).
