[Nurse]

It has been 3 days since the little girl had been brought into the town.

Upon her arrival, the boss had been mad like hell. Screaming and frantic she ordered us to do everything we can. Apparently, they met the girl while moving to the forest.

The Guardians said she knows the girl somehow. They also said that the girl was originally ok.

But on their way back she got a fever and it became worse.

I was assigned to her, alongside 4 other nurses. We checked her blood for any signs or poison, any kind of virus, bacteria or whatever else we might find.

We found nothing. It became worse and worse. Her body thinned extremely fast and her bones were showing.

After just 2 hours her body looked like she starved for weeks.

Her skin dried and she looked almost like a mummy.

The boss was...angry is too weak to describe it.

I have never seen her like that before and I never want to see that again.

She is normally kind and a lovely lady.

But...she just went nuts. As I said: I have never seen her like that before.

We were scared and did everything to save her.

And I am lucky to have found the reason by accident!

All those doctors checking her searched for poison and a disease but hell it was so much easier.

When I changed her clothes I accidentally soaked her shoulder with some water. I bumped the stupid glass of the table!

And the water "trickled" into her skin!

I called the boss and when I showed her what happened she ordered me to prepare a medicinal bath. The treasures and herbs she dropped into that bath are enough for the whole staff to live in luxury for at least 5 years!

But when I saw her act like that I knew that the girl was much more important than everything.

But why? We all know that she has no family and no relatives or any friends she has regular contact with.

The closest people to her is Mr. Daniel's group and us, the staff.

Anyway. After we put her into that bath she rapidly absorbed the nutrients and she regenerated fast. Crazy fast! No 3 hours later she had her muscled body back. And I must admit she's a beautiful child.

Her cute face! And she's not only cute but also so beautiful. And her body is perfect!

Muscle proportion that allows for perfect agility and strength utilization!

I have tried to do this myself but I'm just not able to get the muscle mass...which is why I ended as a nurse and not as an adventurer. No talent for being a magician and not enough strength to start training as a warrior.

Ok now: As I woke up for my second shift I went to the bath, showered, brushed my teeth and made sure to wear my best clothes. The boss was real frantic for us to be presentable in front of the girl.

It's almost as if she fears the girl. Or at least what she represents.

The others don't think much of it since the boss doesn't talk about it and she tries to hide it but I can see it. She is clearly concerned about something.

As I said. When I left my room and went to bring another portion of the liquid nutrition, I meet the boss. She knew I was on shift and wanted to know how the little girl is doing.

I told her how she was recovering perfectly and her body was becoming stronger due to the herbs and natural treasures she used.

She was happy and told me to make sure to be careful when the girl wakes up. I have to be polite and graceful. No treating her like a little child.

It sounded weird but I'll make sure to keep it in mind.

After I bid the boss goodbye I hurried to arrive at the girl's room in time. I saw how Elice left the room even though I was not even there yet!

"Elice!", I tried to keep my voice low to not attract attention, "What do you think you're doing?!"

"What's the matter?", Elice was as unconcerned as ever.

"You're supposed to stay with the girl till I come and tell you to go!", I don't understand her problem!

The boss looked like she wanted to murder someone when the girl was suffering from that weird deficit and now this girl is disobeying her order like this. If she wants to get fired please do so by yourself!

"Who cares? It's not like she'll wake up anytime soon. And what am I?! A babysitter?! I'm one of the best nurses and will soon be a doctor! And here I am taking care of some useless girl."

She was as bitchy as always. Normally you read about such characters in those cheesy romance stories but here she is. The real-life version of "Please kill me"-Mob 1.

"I cannot understand how you're still working here. The boss is treating this girl better than she would treat anyone else and you think it's ok to just leave her alone. What do you think the boss would do if she sees this?!", I just can't understand how she can be so unconcerned.

She's not even some High-Nobel. Just the daughter of some local noble with a small territory.

Her father has to bow to the boss and she thinks she can just overlook her orders.

But who cares. It's her ass that's gonna be burned.

I ignore her attempt at flaunting her (not) high status and move into the room.

I see that the water has not been changed during Elice shift and I hurry to take care of it.

That girl! Why did she even become a nurse if she doesn't care about patients?

"How are we doing little sunshine?", looking over at the girl, I can see that she is still completely without movement. She has not woken up yet and her body is full of residual herbs.

Taking a small hose I gently remove the dirt and whatever else clings to her skin and can only marvel at her muscles.

I repeated this quite a few times now but I am so envious of muscular women. Not those women who have mountains of muscles. More this type. Lean but full of explosive strength.

After cleaning her body I use the cream my mother gave me to massage her legs and arms. My mother is an experienced nurse and told me that this treatment helps the patients who are unconscious and cannot use their muscles by themselves. Something about the body weakening.

Having taken care of that I wash her hair with some soap and dry it. I gently brush her hair and tie it into a beautiful knot at the back of her head.

I rest her head onto the designated surface near the top of the bathtub.

I take the nutritional solution and carefully pour it into the foot end of the bathtub. A small dent catches all the liquid and I let the warm water flow into the tub.

Activating the runes in the small dent, the nutritional liquid is stirred and mixed into the warm water.

I quickly check everything. I might have forgotten something.

It doesn't seem like I forgot something so I relax and take a chair from under the window.

Looking out into the small garden I can see Miss Emma sitting on one of the benches.

She has been very concerned about the little girl. Almost as much as the boss.

She is accompanied by Mr. Lar'ge.

He is as tall as ever. He he he.

Not many know but the boss has the hots for him. Quite sad for her as Lar'ge doesn't seem like he's interested in her. I don't know why but he'll surely has his reason.

And he too is very concerned about the little girl. But in his case, it is nothing to be surprised about.

Ever since he came to the city the orphanage has received giant sums or money to take care of the children.

We all spend something from time to time but most people ignore the orphanage.

Since Lar'ge came the number of children who can be taken care of has tripled and the former church has even been renovated. I was surprised when they started working on it.

I knew that Mr. Daniel's group makes a lot of money but on that day we all found out that they make MUCH more than expected.

They do get designated quests from the various guilds.

Anyway. I take the chair and si next to the bathtub. I rummage in my small bag for a second and find the book I packed.

Lately, I try to read more and when I come to the little girl I take a book with me and read her something. My mother said that often times patients can "feel" their surroundings despite being unconscious. she also said that that is mostly due to their superior soul and energy but I think the girl would be happy to have someone read for her, perhaps.

The book I took today is a story written by a very well-known author. George Amber.

He is known for traveling all over the kingdoms and continents. He's a weird man. He's clearly super rich but doesn't care. He only cares about traveling to dangerous locations.

I guess everyone got his hobbies.

"Day 1-13

My expedition and I arrived at the Darahri Desert. I was told that some old ruins of an ancient civilization have been found here. They are said to be guarded by still functioning golems and old traps block the path into the cities.

The peculiar about the cities is the entrance. The cities are built into the desert! The nomads living her say that they are descendants of an old race they call the [Ras'kha].

Whenever they talk about them they bow towards the sun. It seems like this race has been the dominant ruler of the desert. The other races were servants but not slaves. They were below the Ras'kha but they say that they had been treated well.

The Ras'kha seem to have been very strong users of Earth and Water magic as well as Qi.

The water part was surprising since the desert should not offer a good affinity with water.

I can understand that Lizardmen, Fairies, and some other races have high affinity with water but a race living in a desert?!

I was soon proven wrong. They showed me old books and engravings depicting on how the Ras'kha called upon the rain and moved massive amounts of sand to build their cities.

I was not entirely convinced but the story was the same wherever I went.

By now I am sure that they told the truth.

I am currently standing above one of their cities. And it's magnificent!

A steep slope leads straight downwards and a towering wall of at least 20 meters in hight awaits all visitors and aggressors. A city gate, damaged by the passing of time, is proudly embedded into the intimidating wall.

The wall itself is engraved with runes. I can feel the magic oozing off them. They seem to draw Mana and Qi from the surrounding air and keep the sand in place.

Now I am really curious! I have seen a dwarven Mastersmith engrave runes onto a sword and while the runes on the city walls are certainly not as good as the dwarven runes but they are above everything humans could think of.

I insisted to enter the city but we were denied entry. The golems were stationed right behind the gates and sentries were placed on the walls. They were damaged but still worked. I guess they too draw their energy from the surroundings.

Looking closer at them I can see that their design is similar to those made by the former [Maltreian].

It seems like these races have traded with each other. Not surprising since both races seem to have been very peaceful and friendly.

Proven by the fact that neither of the races ever started a known war or large-scale battle.

The descendants of the Ras'kha told me that their ancestors were focused on living with nature. The desert gave birth to them and in the desert, they will live.

A legend that seems to keep the nomads in the desert. Their legends speak of a time at which the Ras'kha will return from something they call the "Slumber" and reinhabit the cities. The nomads will once again live their prosperous life as the servants of the Ras'kha.

I can only say that I would love to meet a living Ras'kha. The things we could learn! Historical facts from hundreds of years ago!

Ah yes, the nomads told me that the Ras'kha live forever as long as they aren't killed or they voluntarily return into the "Embrace of the Desert". They say that a dead Ras'kha turns into sand and will nourish the desert.

Are they elementals? But elementals normally don't build cities!

Argh! Questions only raise more questions!"

-------------

Well, it has become late. I guess I will visit the girl once more, tomorrow.

"Now little sunshine you have to wake up soon otherwise the boss will go crazy and that ain't good in the least."

Emptying the bathtub I carry the girl onto the bed near the window. I dress her with a thick nightgown and gently cover her with a white blanket.

"Good night and sweet dreams. I'll return tomorrow and read some more."
