C91: What I can do before the teams are divided

In my room in the dormitory, which is of a higher quality than my home, I started to cry as I reflected on what had happened.

I was really going to have to beat Claire and turn her favor to someone else.

It was a good thing that I forced Claire to participate, but beating her is not easy. To be honest, there was no way I could beat her in a head-to-head fight, since I’d already gotten lucky in the entrance exam. I don’t even know Claire’s exact strength.

The only thing I can say is that there is no way to win a head-to-head battle without making it Claire versus the masses.

Claire will definitely be chosen as the general due to her family status, so I have to create a situation where I can outnumber her in her main base.

I would have to know the strength of my team and Claire’s team. Or, to begin with, can I be in the enemy team during division?

Huh? Wait a minute. Maybe it would be better for me to be on the same team as Claire?

If I’m on the same team as Claire and I’m beaten to a pulp, won’t she naturally turn to other guys? Wouldn’t it be better if I fought and lost in the first place?

No, no, no. I have to keep making her believe that I’m capable. I can’t just lose in vain for Claire’s sake.

There’s no point in worrying about something that hasn’t been decided. In the meantime, I have to get to know Claire better.

Whether I’m on the same team or on the enemy’s team, I have to get to know Claire and find out what she is all about.

If you know your enemy and know yourself, you will be able to win a hundred battles.

It was only yesterday that I decided to go to bed at night with that thought. So now I asked again to make sure that the good fortune that had befallen me was real.

“Claire? What did you say?”

The back of the school building meanly hid the sun that would have been blazing brilliantly. In such darkness, Claire, smiling like the sun, opened her mouth.

“Chris, would you like to go into town with me this weekend?”

“Really?”

“Yeah!”

I was in the middle of being summoned to the back of the school building by Claire and asked out on a date. That’s why I’m so happy.

It was not that I was happy that Claire had asked me out on a date. On the contrary, I never want to go on a date with her. What makes me so happy is that just yesterday I had been thinking that I should get to know Claire, so I was delighted to have the perfect opportunity to do so.

“Oh……? Maybe it’s……Chris. If you don’t answer, does that mean you don’t want to go……?”

I had been so lucky to be able to investigate Claire without stalking her that I had gotten carried away and created a misunderstanding.

I opened my mouth in a panic.

“No, of course not! I’m just having too much fun imagining what we’re going to do!”

“Chris.”

Claire looked just as flustered as she did yesterday.

It’s so easy! It’s really so easy! I even feel like everything is going to be fine with this repetition!

No, it’s not so easy. I’ll keep a low profile so that I can use it when the time comes. I was about to take my hat off to my cleverness, but Claire’s words brought me back to reality.

“Well, then, can I just let Chris decide where to go?”

Claire looked up at me expectantly. Wait. I don’t want to do that.

I had thought about knowing what Claire liked and using that to irritate her, but I couldn’t use it anymore. Instead, I had to make a plan based on my own predictions of what Claire might like.

“If you’re shaking your head, does that mean you can’?”

“No! I’ve been thinking too much about this and that to make Claire happy!”

“Chris!”

Once again, Claire melted like hot cheese. I really have to be careful not to overdo it. Anyway, perhaps it was the effect of shaking my head earlier, but a new idea came to me.

This is not a date. If that’s the case, I can incorporate things into the plan that Claire might not like, and see how she reacts to them to determine her weaknesses.

Besides, if she’s disappointed with me here, she’ll lose her fondness for me. Even if I lose her favor, she’s not going to judge me as incompetent just because my date plan is garbage.

When I think about it, I realize how delicious it is to have the power of decision delegated to me, and my cheeks relax on their own.

“What’s up, Chris?”

“No, I’m just having a lot of fun thinking about what I’m going to do with Claire.”

“Oh, Chris.”

Seriously, I have to make sure I don’t overdo it.
