Popular Store for Dried Meat

I put Sora in my bag and head for the woods.

“Good morning.”

“Good morning.”

The Gate Keeper-san and the others seemed to know my face, as we had done this every day.

They not only greeted me, but also gave me some information.

I really appreciate it, especially when they told me about the movements of animals and monsters in the forest.

“Are you hunting today?”

“Yes.”

“I see. Oh, that’s right. I have received information about intermediate level monsters in the forest towards the cave, so please be careful.”

“Thank you very much.”

If it was an intermediate level monster, it wasn’t Ciel.

I didn’t know what kind of monster it was, but I’d better be careful.

I continued through the forest for a while, making sure there were no signs of people, before taking Sora out of the bag.

“Pupuu~”

She bounced around me and then went straight to the depths of the forest.

“Sora, not that way.”

“…Puu~”

I recently realized that Sora had no sense of direction.

I didn’t notice it because she stayed by my side most of the time during our trip so that I could hide her in my bag right away.

Should I let her walk freely? She would probably end up in the wrong direction.

Sora didn’t seem to notice this herself, and when I warned her about it, she would make an unhappy sound.

It was cute, but I had to be careful not to tell her that, because it would make her sound even more unhappy.

As I started walking in the direction where I had set the trap, I felt Ciel’s presence.

I stopped and waited for a while, and then Ciel came down from a tree.

“Good morning, Ciel. It seems like you’ve caught a lot again today.”

Ciel was so proud of herself while holding a slightly larger basket in her mouth.

The basket was one I had given her, as I knew it would be hard for her to bring the prey in her mouth.

There were quite a few wild rabbits and field mice in it.

Since yesterday, we decided to divide the hunting and trapping between me and Ciel, and she seemed to have done a pretty good job.

“That’s great. Let’s hurry up and go look at the traps.”

Ciel walked towards the place where the traps were set, with the basket in his mouth.

It was kind of funny to see her, if you didn’t think about what was in the basket.

“Well, what did I get?”

I set 16 traps.

I wondered if I captured some, at least a little.

I checked the traps one by one.

Ah, I caught something.

I put the prey caught in the traps into a basket that I brought with me.

Twelve out of sixteen traps had caught prey.

That was strange…

How did this many traps catch so much prey?

Normally, if half of the traps caught prey, that would be considered a large number.

And yet, today, 12 of the traps caught a prey.

This was the same as when Ciel threatened them.

I wondered if Ciel was helping me again with the traps?

“Ciel, did you threaten them?”

“Meow!”

This meow means “Yes, I did”.

…Huh?

I asked her yesterday to leave it as is, right?

There was no need for her to threaten your prey into the traps.

I thought so as I looked at Ciel, she looked satisfied, but I guess she didn’t understand my intention?

I wondered, how many more would there be when combined with the ones Ciel hunted?

…I have to hurry and dismantle them.

We hurried to the riverside with one basket each containing our prey.

Ciel took the other basket from me, holding it in her mouth.

“Thank you.”

I counted and found that Ciel had 4 wild hares and 7 field mice.

How could she hunt that many?

That was amazing.

I had 8 wild rabbits and 4 field mice.

And a wild pigeon.

For some reason, a wild pigeon was caught in the trap.

I wonder how unlucky they would be to be caught in a trap set on the ground.

“Okay, let’s dismantle them!”

Twelve wild rabbits and eleven field mice.

As expected, there were too many to dismantle, even though I was used to doing this.

And there’s even a wild pigeon that I was dismantling for the second time.

I should work hard.

“Hah~, I’m so tired!”

In front of me was a large amount of meat wrapped in bana leaves.

The wild pigeons were also neatly dismantled today with no waste…supposedly.

I got the bones as well.

I stretched out my arms and heard a cracking sound as I relaxed my body.

It was a sound I made from inside my own body, but it was amazing.

“Now, let’s go back to town and sell the meat!”

Ciel and Sora were lying down by a nearby tree.

Sora was sound asleep again.

I envy her.

The freshness was going to be lost if we don’t hurry.
