(T/N on Chapter 47)

Well, a concubine is still a servant despite a high level one. Yun-niang wanted to pick and choose concubine/cousin badges to her benefits.

Yun-niang wanted to flaunt her pregnancy because she thought it would humiliate Shen Qi in front of Shen Jin. She thought Shen Jin would cooperate because shu and di sisters typically had conflicts, she didn’t expect Shen Jin visited with a mission to help Shen Qi.

Shen Jin said since Yun-niang’s hobby was doing a maid’s work, so she must be a low class person. Shen Jin then wanted to cause trouble for Yun-niang, but she lacked experience (well, actually she had natural talent in that matter haha…)

Shen Jin’s awkward attempt to start ‘attacking’ by asking about Yun-niang’s husband was met with a happy surprise as Yun-niang herself was so out of touch that she tried to call Shen Jin ‘sister’.

So here’s the list of Yun-niang’s transgressions that day:

(1) Concubines had no business meeting guests (moreover this is a Countess).

(2) Concubines had no right to act familiar with the family’s relative. Once she became a concubine, she was no longer a cousin, she had been lowered to servant class, so she shouldn’t have tried to address a family’s relative as ‘sister’ (especially as that’s Shen Qi’s relative…. remember the sisters were a prince’s daughters)

(3) Concubines were quite some glorified servants, so it’s an insult that a servant-class from Yongle Mansion dared to call Countess Yongning  a ‘sister’. That’s why Marchioness Yongle turned pale, Yun-niang’s encroachment was an offense to Count Yongning.

The slaps are on Chapter 49. Literally.
