The Young Lady of the General’s House

Rui-wangfei’s face changed as she saw that blood was seeping out from under Shen Zi’s skirt, she asked in dark voice, “Is there a doctor?”

“Yes.” Marchioness Yongle saw it too, felt bad in her heart, hurriedly said, “Quick go fetch the doctor.”

Doctor Qian didn’t dare to treat Rui-wang’s Fifth Miss but he was still around, he ran over when he heard the maid calling, “Carry her to the room quick.”

Rui-wangfei looked at Marchioness Yongle who said, “Come this way.” A few sturdy pozi’s carried Shen Zi inside following Marchioness Yongle.

Rui-wangfei’s eyes flashed when she saw the palm marks on Shen Zi’s face, she turned to Shen Xuan who looked remorseful. He didn’t know that Shen Zi was pregnant. Actually Shen Zi’s condition didn’t have much to do with Shen Xuan, but if she bit him as the cause of the miscarriage then it would be really bad.

Rui-wangfei asked in low voice, “Who was there that time?” Shen Xuan told her who saw him, Rui-wangfei nodded.

That time Anning returned with the ointment, she bowed at Rui-wangfei and Shen Xuan. Rui-wangfei gently asked, “What are you doing rushing?”

“There is a box of imperial snow lotus ointment, Furen let This Slave pick it up for Fifth Miss.” Anning respectfully said.

Rui-wangfei’s eyes flashed, “This is really….. let me have a look.” An Ning offered it with both hands, and Rui-wangfei opened the lid and lightly scraped a little to smell it. She closed the lid and handed the box to Anning, “Quickly send it in, tell your Furen to wait for the imperial doctor.”

“Understood.” Shen Xuan spoke.

Rui-wangfei waved her hand then entered the room, Shen Rong called out as she saw her, “Mother Consort.”

“Poor thing.” Rui-wangfei walked over quickly, took a closer look at Shen Rong’s face. The blood had dried up a bit, the wound still oozed some but not much, the areas away from the wound had been wiped clean.

A maid coming in a hurry with news about Shen Zi, she said the child in Shen Zi’s belly likely couldn’t be saved. Doctor Qian was asking for a decision whether to give her the medicine to let the tissues flow out.

Everyone looked at Rui-wangfei who only said, “Second Girl was our Rui Wangfu’s Junzhu but as she is now married into Zheng family, please ask Doctor Qian to try as much as he can to save the baby, and for anything else please wait for Zheng family to decide.”

Zhao-momo saw that Rui-wangfei had really been disgusted with Shen Zi. For Shen Zi’s sake the Doctor should really get the debris in Shen Zi’s belly cleaned out as soon as possible, abortion was never good for the body but with some recuperation it was not a big deal. But  now Rui-wangfei told the doctor to keep on trying to preserve the baby while waiting for Zheng family. This delay could possibly harm Shen Zi’s body.

But was Rui-wangfei wrong? Not exactly, the baby in Shen Zi’s belly was Zheng family’s child, noone could say she was wrong not willing to interfere, moreover if she did interfere and something happened there would be a grudge.

Shen Jin had been married but she was still unclear of these things. Pursing her lips, she asked in low voice, “How come Second Sister didn’t know she was pregnant?”

Zhao-momo replied in the same low voice, “Her mind is on other things.”

Shen Jin ‘oh’, then “What a pity.” She didn’t like Shen Zi but the child was innocent. Touching her belly, she thought when would she have Fujun’s child?

Zhao-momo saw her, comforted her, “Wait Furen is a little older, it is more secure.”

“En.” Shen Jin said no more.

Rui-wangfei sighed, “I will go see Second Girl.”

Shen Qi spoke, “Mother, shall I accompany you?”

“No need.” Rui-wangfei said, “Stay here with Fifth Girl.” After saying this she left with the maid.

Shen Zi was lying on the bed with Doctor Qian applying needles on her, his face was extremely serious and his forehead was sweaty. The slap marks on Shen Zi’s face had disappeared. Cuixi was standing on the side, slightly nodded at Rui-wangfei.

The imperial doctors arrived with Marquis Yongle and Count Yongning, and even Rui-wang as well. The Empress received a report that someone came with Yongle Mansion badge requesting an imperial doctor, she passed the news to the Emperor. Marquis Yongle, Count Yongning and Rui-wang were all at Imperial Study that time, along with other officials discussing coastal invasion.

Rui-wang stood up and respectfully said, “Yes.”

“Oh?” Emperor Cheng always masked his expression, but some still shown on his eyes, “In that case, all three of you could go together with the imperial doctor, they said a woman was injured.”

Rui-wang’s and Marquis Yongle’s faces changed, Chu Xiuming stood up and thanked the Emperor, he then turned and walked out first. Rui-wang and Marquis Yongle also thanked the Emperor and followed him.

Emperor Cheng sighed, “Cultivate oneself, manage household, govern the country, achieve world peace.” He shook his head as if he felt sorry for them.

T/N – 修身齐家治国平天下 = Those who want to be aboveboard and honorable have to first govern their own country. To govern their own country, they have to first manage their own household well. To manage their household, they have to first cultivate their character.

Noone spoke but they all understood. Rui-wangfei and Marquis Yongle had titles without real power, Zheng family had only fame, so only Count Yongning was left. Most there were old officials, they felt Emperor Cheng was a bit mean. The others who were newly promoted understood the meaning and the attitude Emperor Cheng had to Count Yongning. Everyone had their own calculations.

Chu Xiuming didn’t hear the last part of what the Emperor said but he had guessed the intention when it was said in front of everyone, he just didn’t care. Although the possibility that Shen Jin was injured was very low with Zhao-momo, Anping and Anning around, he still wouldn’t feel at ease before he saw her himself.

The people from Rui-wang Mansion and Yongle Mansion were at the palace gate, they brought the imperial doctors to Yongle Mansion together. Rui-wang was furious that Shen Zi could hurt her own sister, at that moment he didn’t know about Shen Zi’s miscarriage yet.

Yongle Shizi went out to meet them, he was relieved to see the two imperial doctors, “Good, who is better at treating external injuries?”

Rui-wang was so angry that he was speechless. When Zheng family arrived, he didn’t give them good face, directly questioned Zheng Furen, “Where is Zheng Jiaqu? His wife had problem and he is not here?”

Zheng Furen wasn’t angry at Rui-wang’s words, after greetings she said, “Jiaqu is not feeling well, he can’t get out of the house. I will let him make amends with Wangye another day.”

“Snow lotus ointment could make it lighter.” The doctor respectfully said, the implication was it would still leave a scar.

Shen Rong could no longer held her tears, “I am dead….”

Shen Qi said, “Imperial Doctor please do your best.”

The Doctor nodded, Shen Jin gave him the snow lotus ointment. Shen Qi ordered the maid to watch carefully on how to apply it, then pulled Shen Jin out of the room.

They saw Rui-wang and others sitting in the hall in an extraordinarily awkward atmosphere. Seeing Chu Xiuming, Shen Jin’s eyes lit up, Chu Xiuming saw her all fine and nodded slightly, but the anger in his heart did not lessen.

Rui-wang asked, “How is the wound on your sister’s face?”

Chu Xiuming glanced at her, “Alright.” He went out but instead of looking for Yongle Shizi, he found Zhao-momo and the others who were guarding outside.

Rui-wangfei stroked her forehead, she’s not going to explain too much, lest it spoiled Shen Jin’s mood.

Shen Qi also said, “In a few days, I will be visit Sister’s place.”

“Good.” Shen Jin replied directly, and as Rui-wangfei didn’t say anything else, she took her leave.

Outside the door, she saw Chu Xiuming in his full Count attire waiting, Zhao-momo and the rest were beside him. As he saw her, he stretched out his right hand with palm facing upwards. Shen Jin gave him a smile, moved up and put her hand on his, “Let’s go home.”

“En.” Chu Xiuming helped her fix her hair.

Zhao-momo had told him everything, Shen Jin shook his hand lightly, “Don’t be angry.”

Chu Xiuming looked calm but Shen Jin knew he was in a very bad mood. Chu Xiuming slightly lowered his eyes to look at his little wife, “What if it was you who got hurt?”

Shen Jin felt the skin on her face was much thicker now, not only she wasn’t embarrassed, she felt extraordinarily happy and protected.

Seeing her happy, Chu Xiuming tossed her up and down to make her even happier. He was trying to coax her because he felt there must be some griefs inside even if she didn’t show it, after all they were her family. He wished laughters for her every day.

Shen Jin wasn’t afraid at all. She laughed, the sound of the jade bracelets on her wrist clashing with each other was clear and crisp.

Zhao-momo’s eyes finally softened a little, Anping and Anning also looked at the General and Furen with smiles.

“Shameless.” A grim and harsh woman’s voice was suddenly heard from behind, breaking their mood. Chu Xiuming stopped and turned to look.

They saw Shen Zi wrapped in a cloak with two sturdy pozi’s holding her on both sides, in front of them was a middle-aged woman with a stern face, the one who talked just now was her.

“Do I know you?” Shen Jin asked as she lightly sized her up.

The middle-aged woman didn’t feel she was in the wrong, “Fooling around in public’s eyes, do you know how to write the word ‘shame’?”

“Are you going to teach us?” Chu Xiuming spoke up, his eyes were cold and mocking, the eyes that swept over Shen Zi made her swayed.

Another middle-aged woman came over, seeing everyone was standing there blocking the gate she asked, “What is going on?” This was Zheng Jiaqu’s mother, Shen Zi’s mother-in-law. She was beautiful and looked much gentler than the woman who spoke first.

Shen Jin saw Shen Zi’s situation, “You better send Second Sister back quickly.”

Zheng Furen had heard from the maids of what happened today, she felt headache at the sight of her daughter-in-law, one wave not yet subsided, the next wave had come rushing. She breathed in some cold air, hurriedly said, “It was a misunderstanding.”

“Zheng Furen?” Chu Xiuming’s eyes on that woman, “You better remember my words today. If any of your Zheng family hurts my wife, I will break one limb of your son’s. Go home and count how many sons you have, see how many chances you got.”

By now the first woman of Zheng family had found out who Chu Xiuming was, she was furious of Chu Xiuming’s brash words, “This is the Capital, not the place for you to be insolent.”

Rui-wangfei had also came out, behind her a was group of pozi’s surrounding a woman in veiled hat. They had also heard Chu Xiuming’s words.
