13 – Repaired Watch

Candice, a senior maid, opened the door.

“Madam, get ready to go back to Dumfelt... Oh, did you fix that?”

As soon as she heard Candice’s voice, Scarlett proudly raised the watch in her hand.

Candice yelled, startling Scarlett:

“Polly! She repaired the watch!”

“What?.... Really?” responded Polly with her voice booming all the way from the kitchen.

She ran up to the room.

Teary-eyed, Polly checked her watch repeatedly as Candice sat Scarlett down and braided her blonde hair, pinning it into a corolla.

“Thank you! My deceased grandmother bought this watch to celebrate my birth. So, I wanted to fix it!”

“How the hell did you fix it, Madam?”

Scarlett smiled as the maids all surrounded Polly in amazement and looked at her watch.

“It took me a full week.”

“Everywhere I went, they told me it couldn’t be fixed! It’s so amazing.”

Everyone was so excited that Scarlett had a hard time telling them that she was going to hand over the divorce papers to her husband today. She felt uncomfortable hiding the truth.

After a while, the servants put her luggage in the trunk and helped her out. Candice checked Scarlett’s clothes.

“See you in a hundred days.”

Scarlett smiled at Candice’s words.

“Yeah.”

“By the way, this is upsetting,” said Candice, displeased as she examined the scar on Scarlett’s left wrist.

When she lost her memory and woke up in her hotel room, she noticed a small wound on her left wrist, which was usually hidden by her watch.

“I can cover it,” said Scarlett as she pushed the watch down on her wrist.

“This beautiful skin… How on earth was it wounded?”

“It would be nice to remember.”

Scarlett tried to remember what she had done during that week she lost her memories. She felt anxious and scared when she looked at the scar and couldn’t bear looking at it for too long.

After a while, the two of them left the small but precious villa filled with all kinds of rare items. As the sun set, night fell. The slight patter of rain gradually trickled into a downpour.

Scarlett got into her carriage.

She closed her eyes for a moment and remembered Viktor’s figure: a perfect navy coat tailored to his long limbs, shiny black hair, straight nose, and dark blue eyes that always reminded her of the sea.

In May, clovers sprouted in the fields like lush green cumulus on earth. Come to think of it, finding a four-leaf clover for him was her happiness. It was one of the ways she enjoyed the month. Even if their marriage was a lie, everything she did for Viktor brought her joy. If that hadn’t been the case, she wouldn’t have been able to continue her unrequited actions.

It was a good two years, she thought.

She was very reluctant to blame Marina Dumfelt and the Royal Family but couldn’t forgo it altogether.

The princess, revoked by the Royal Family, went mad, and rumours spread in Salantier’s Capital that her son lived to fulfil her dream while being abused by such a mother.

When it was revealed that even his closest aides and crew members were unaware of this, the Royal Family’s position was dumbfounded.

A long battle ensued. Viktor lived the way he always had, biding his time. The Irene Royal Family was terribly reluctant to incorporate Viktor, so they delayed their answers, never clearly stating the subject.

But Viktor wasn’t anxious about it. If she suffered from a lack of tenacity, it was never an issue for Viktor Dumfelt.

It had been raining for several days, and Viktor was bored this evening.

To kill time, he took a sip of wine, standing by the window on the third floor of the annexe. As he was drinking with intent to get drunk, endlessly filling and emptying his glass, he heard a carriage running through the mud.

Viktor looked out the window and saw a carriage through the dark rain.

“The devil has arrived,” Blight announced, perplexed.

“Scarlett?”

“Yes.”

Viktor must have guessed the date incorrectly, he recalculated it, but today was still the 99th day since Scarlett left.

He was reluctant to show his drunken side to others, so he slightly furrowed his brow and re-buttoned his shirt. He put on a vest over the suspenders and jacket, then went down the stairs to find Scarlett in a raincoat.

She saw Viktor coming down the central staircase and smiled cheerfully.

“Viktor, long time no see.”

“Isn’t it tomorrow?”

“Oh, right. Tomorrow is the day we agreed to meet.”

Scarlett didn’t take off her raincoat.

Viktor’s brow furrowed a little more this time as she walked into the lobby, water dripping on the floor as she went. Scarlett looked somewhat better than she did three months ago, so Viktor thought perhaps the understated lifestyle in the monastery was a fit for her.

Scarlett brightly smiled as she approached him, but her steps were a bit slow.

“How are you?”
