Lei Ruduo and Lin Jia were in despair as they listened to these men discussing their fate in front of them. Despite the fact that the gags in their mouths had already been removed, they were too scared to make a sound.

The supermarket had been ‘visited’ by too many people. There was almost nothing edible left on the shelves. Instead there was rotten vegetables and meat on the floor that had been trampled on; the entire place stank.

Rotten meat had a strong odour and was a favorite of both large creatures and small insects.

Many finger-sized maggots were squirming in the blackish-red meat. The maggots were stepped on by the disgusted men, making puff sounds as they were squashed.

After dinner, they came to the decision to stay for the night and leave the next day.

In the middle of the supermarket, there was a hammock hanging between two shelves, which seemed to have been left by the people who were there before.

Lin Jia saw that the few men did not plan on doing anything to them for the night. They just stood guard at the entrance. She breathed a sigh of relief, then cast a glance at Lei Ruduo, who was crying beside her. Terrified.

It was obvious what lay ahead for them, but she tried to make the best out of the depressing situation. She touched Lei Ruduo’s shoulder and motioned for her to sit on the hammock, where it would be more comfortable.

Nobody made a bed for them. It was better to stay on the hammock than to sleep on the cold floor.

Now they could only pray that Lei Hongyi found that they were missing, and comes to their rescue.

The two girls huddled together, shoulder to shoulder, in the hammock. After the men finished making their beds at the entrance, they noticed the two girls nestling in the hammock and snorted,

“They sure know how to pick a place to sleep.”

“Let them be for today, when tomorrow comes…”

As night fell, there was a faint, continuous rustling sound, but the weird noises were completely inaudible under the thunder-like snoring of the few men.

Suddenly, a sharp scream pierced through the silence in the supermarket. Lei Ruduo jerked awake from her sleep and opened her eyes in a daze.

She shivered and looked back. Lin Jia had also awoken. She had the same terrified expression on her face, but she bit her lip firmly to prevent herself from making a sound.

The two girls leaned on each other. They could feel the tremors of each other’s bodies.

Under their hanging hammock, the floor was full of black beetles crawling towards fresh flesh and blood, like a huge black net. Those rustling sounds were the sounds of marching of countless beetle feet.
