Chapter 27.2 - The Dark Shadow in the Woods (2/3)

Qin Fuhai and his teammates went to send Jin Yang off. Despite Jin Yang’s repeated refusals, they still helped him remove the roots and branches that were deeply entangled with the SUV’s tires.

The middle-aged man who had previously handed Yin Yiliu rice crackers wiped his sweat and smiled, “This is no big deal. There’s still a long way to go in your journey. If you can use your car then at least you can cut down on some walking time. That’s all we can do after what you’ve done for us.”

Qin Fuhai leaned against the tree trunk with his arms crossed. He did not stop his teammates from helping. He saw that middle-aged man with a naive smile on his face looked at the rabbit in Jin Yang’s arms nostalgically while scratching his head. “Looking at Little Liu is like looking at my own daug-“

Yin Yiliu, who was previously still sleepy in Jin Yang’s arms, immediately sprung up and plopped directly onto the man’s face as if there was a spring on her little butt. Her thick fur almost suffocated the man so he couldn’t speak anymore.

Qin Fuhai arched his eyebrows slightly. He thought he had caught onto something.

Yin Yiliu’s body was covered in fur, but she felt chills on her back at that moment. Before she knew it, her body already moved by itself to cover the man’s mouth.

She could feel Jin Yang’s burning gaze on her back, as if it was about to pierce through the fur on her back. Her round tail shook unconsciously.

That was close!

She knew that she had revealed a lot of unexplainable things in front of Jin Yang, including her ability to understand human speech and even owning two spaces. So even if this final layer of sockpuppet were to be revealed, it wouldn’t be a big deal.

She just felt that she was unable to untangle the knot in her heart.

As long as she looked at Jin Yang in her human form, she would remember how Big Golden Thigh stroked her until she almost fainted when she was still a rabbit. No way no way, she just couldn’t, it was too humiliating.

Even though her little sockpuppet was already tattered and fluttering in the wind, Yin Yiliu still refused to take it off.

As long as I continued to act dumb, Big Golden Thighs would not find out!

But Jin Yang had already noticed the strange reactions of Qin Fuhai and his teammates, as well as the guilty expression on Yin Yiliu’s face. He pondered while watching the little rabbit frantically trying to cover up for something.

Fine. If the little rabbit didn’t want to let him know, he would pretend not to understand anything.

He would wait for the day when it was ready to tell him the truth.

On the other side of the jungle, a half-burned man struggled to move towards an abandoned building.

There was a deep wound on his face. The gaping wound was already terrifying enough, but now the skin around the wound had been burned dry by the fire from the cannon blast. The dried-out skin attached to his cheekbones was horrifying.

In his arms was a little girl whose half of her body was drenched in blood. Her condition did not look optimistic. Her eyes were tightly shut, and the color of her blood blended into her dress.

These two people were Qiu Qiong and the young lady from the Liu family who had been shot down by the cannon.

The little girl was too young, and she was not even an evolved person. After suffering such a big impact and falling from the sky, she was already hanging on her last breath.

On the contrary, Qiu Qiong took on most of the damage. He had been severely injured to the point where half of the bones on his wings were visible. The scent from his burnt flesh attracted small animals to gnaw on his back.

But even so, he was still very much alive, which showed how powerful his evolution was.

As the flesh on his body was torn off, Qiu Qiong roared in pain. His wings were too badly injured. He might be able to fly on his own, but he would risk permanently deforming his wings, not to mention the fact that he had to bring along another person.

What should he do? If those people caught them, he and the young lady would undoubtedly die.

Qiu Qiong’s mind was racing as he tried to come up with a plan. Liu Qianshan had detained his family in the military. If the young lady died, they would definitely be killed.

The white bones on his back seemed to be infected by some powerful bacteria, causing pain and itching. Qiu Qiong could feel his wings gradually eroding, and there was nothing but green in front of him. The hopeless situation made him terrified for the first time in his life.

When he noticed a nearby building surrounded by layers of thick branches, he breathed a sigh of relief and decided to seek shelter inside.

Buildings could give a greater sense of security to people than the endless greenery.

Just as he was dragging the little girl towards the direction of the building while enduring the extreme pain on his body, he heard faint sounds of heavy breathing behind the tall grass.

He stopped at once and looked around vigilantly, but there was nothing.

Something must be hidden here.

He stood completely still, hoping that the creature behind the grass would lose interest in him. But when he saw a half-meter tall pure black figure emerge slowly from the grass, he knew it was impossible.

It was a wolf, a black and shiny wolf with white fluff on the tip of his ears. It had such a beautiful appearance. No wonder the little girl in red had demanded for the wolf when she first saw it.

""

For this size, before the apocalypse, it could be regarded as the leader of its pack, but after the apocalypse, it was only a newborn pup. Without its mother’s protection, it could be easily caught and swallowed by other animals out there that had mutated in size.

The abdomen of the wolf had a shallow cut caused by another animal. It moved slowly towards Qiu Qiong. By right, Qiu Qiong would never fear a wolf pup, but he was now so seriously injured that he couldn’t even raise his hand.

This wolf was the pup of the mutated wolf mother that Qiu Qiong and his team had tortured to death. It was the ‘puppy’ that the little girl desired. But now its presence caused him to be on pins and needles.

The slender green eyes of the pup were glowing in the dark. Qiu Qiong thought that he could see deep resentment in these eyes, the kind of deep hatred that sent chills down his spine.

He comforted himself in the fact that a newborn pup wouldn’t know anything. It couldn’t have such complex emotions, but when the black wolf leaned down slightly and gnashed at him, he knew that this wolf had really remembered him. It had come to exact vengeance.

What Qiu Qiong didn’t know was that although it was a newborn pup, it was extremely intelligent. It was one of the few animals that had gained sentience during the apocalypse, and it had long remembered Qiu Qiong’s scent in its mind.

After it ran away, it didn’t run around aimlessly, but after confirming that it was safe, it turned back quietly and hid behind a banyan tree not far away, staring at Qiu Qiong and his teammates.

A wolf was an animal with a strong sense of vengeance, not to mention a wolf that had gained sentience.

After Yin Yiliu and the others left, it tore the two corpses on the ground into pieces, and then followed the scent of Qiu Qiong here.

The little wolf’s eyes were slightly twitching, seemingly excited for the upcoming bloodbath. It let out a low growl from its throat and slowly approached the man.

How could it forget how this person looked when he was torturing his mother? When it thought of the agonizing look in its mother’s eyes in her final moments, it became agitated. After a long howl, it began attacking the despicable man.

Qiu Qiong wanted to dodge, but he couldn’t because of his injuries. He could only raise his arm to block. Following a sharp pain, half of the flesh on his arm was torn off, and the air was suddenly filled with the pungent smell of blood.

The small mutated animals hiding in the dark were tempted to join in. He even saw a few mutated monkeys screaming and throwing fruits at him from above.

After the first attack, the little wolf’s eyes reddened due to the stimulation from the blood, and blood was dripping from its white teeth. It licked its teeth slowly before howling and attacking again.

Qiu Qiong needed to protect himself and the little girl in his arms. A short while later, there was no longer a single uninjured part of his body, and his body was full of bloody wounds.

When he looked at the excited black wolf, he realized that the pup was imitating them. Like what they had done to its mother, it intended to torture him to death for fun.

What should he do now? Was he really going to be bitten to death by this animal?

When the black wolf opened his bloody mouth and leaped forward again, it was aiming at Qiu Qiong’s throat.

It didn’t want to play around any longer because it didn’t gain any happiness from this game, only endless sadness. The more painful and miserable Qiu Qiong was, the more it could feel its mother’s despair at that time.

Now it just wanted to tear these two humans apart!

But just as his mouth was about to reach its prey, a crimson-colored object smacked the wolf’s face head-on. The wolf stumbled from the impact.

Taking advantage of the moment, Qiu Qiong flew in the air with great difficulty, much like a bird attempting to fly after all of its feathers had been plucked. When he flapped his wings, there was even blood flowing from his wounds.

He was still able to fly somehow, but the little girl who he had been protecting like his life depended on it was nowhere to be found.

Qiu Qiong threw the girl at the black wolf just as it was about to pounce on him. No one’s life was more important to him than his own.

The black wolf looked at the man who was flying in the sky and realized that it had been tricked. The enemy who had fallen into its hands had run away. It howled and ripped the little girl apart angrily. Her tender limbs turned into a pool of flesh and blood in an instant.

Its paws and mouth were covered with blood, and its gloomy green eyes watched as Qiu Qiong flew away.

It didn’t matter. No matter how far he went, it would eventually find him.

The black wolf was angry and upset. It continued to tear the corpse on the ground to vent its anger. After it had calmed down, it slowly licked its paws, and a very human-like expression flashed through its eyes. Its nose sniffed in the air, trying to detect the scent it was looking for.
