Chapter 33.3 - Distribution of the Mutated Cat (3/4)

Suddenly, in the empty city, waves of sharp screams came from a distance, like sandpaper scraping against glass. Yin Yiliu couldn’t help covering her ears with her small paws, but her gaze was fixed at the direction of the source of the sound.

Zhao Qiyang drew his gun and raised it. In the next second, a huge mutated cat leaped out from between two buildings. Its huge body slammed into the standing signs on the roadside, sweeping the signboards and hanging lights to the ground and erupting bursts of noises.

Jin Yang and the others ran to a corner to hide.

Yin Yiliu’s favorite animals in her previous life were cats and dogs, and she had two in her house, so she couldn’t help but look at the frenzied mutated cat with the eyes of a poop-scooping officer1.

This cat was most likely not domesticated prior to its mutation. It had black and white spots on its body, with a dirty face and body. Its height grew to nearly two meters, a little taller than Jin Yang. It was undoubtedly a dangerous beast.

This large animal was agitated by whatever was chasing behind it. The fur on its entire body was standing on its back, its thin pupils almost stretched into a thin line, the sounds it made were unusually sharp, roaring to scare away the people who were approaching it.

A group of people was chasing behind the cat. There were only four people, but they were all young and strong men. From their clothes and equipment, one could tell that they fared pretty well during the apocalypse.

The reason they chased the mutated cat all the way out here was to hunt it down. They became wary when Jin Yang and his teammates entered their line of sight.

They didn’t have many firearms. Only one of the men with slightly graying sideburns had a gun on his waist. Everyone, including the man with the gun, was armed with machetes and axes. It was probably because bullets were difficult to get.

“Hey! You people in the front! Would you guys mind helping us block the cat? We can give each of you a quarter-kilogram of meat afterwards.”

The middle-aged man with the graying sideburns had a bell-like deep voice. As soon as his words fell, the young man next to him furrowed his brow and sized up Jin Yang and his teammates with contempt, especially Jin Yang.

“Uncle Zhou, his legs are already like this. Don’t trouble the poor man.”

Everyone could hear the sarcasm in the young man’s words. Yin Yiliu hated the most when other people talked about Jin Yang’s crippled legs. When she looked at the person’s lips that were curled into a sneer, she had the dying urge to pounce and claw on him. Unfortunately, Jin Yang was firmly holding her back.

Although the mutated cat was large and aggressive, it had sustained multiple injuries under the siege of so many evolved people. Blood gurgled from its wounds, staining its fur red.

The stimulation of the smell of blood caused the cat’s pupils to constrict, but it was afraid of the sharp, pointed objects in the hands of the humans in front of it. Due to its keen sense of smell, it had noticed the Jin Yang and others early on. After its huge eyes rotated, it turned around and snarled at them.

The cry of the mutated cat was shrill and harsh, like the cries of a baby. Yin Yiliu didn’t understand why the trouble had shifted towards them. Obviously, the cat saw that they were empty-handed and assumed they would be easy targets.

The sharp and long white teeth of the mutated tabby cat were exposed as it grinned, and its sharp claws, which had been hidden in its paws, scratched the ground. The black wolf, who had been walking leisurely behind, suddenly charged in front of Jin Yang and the others and howled at the cat, which gave the cat a shock due to its animalistic nature.

The eyes of the young man who sneered at them just now lit up when he saw the pup.

Yin Yiliu could hear the little wolf fiercely threatening the mutated cat with its young voice. Unfortunately, the animal in front of them couldn’t understand what the wolf was saying as it had not gained sentience. After the howling of the wolf caused its fur to stand up, it squeezed out an even sharper cry from its throat.

In an instant, the mutated cat screamed and hurled itself at Jin Yang and the others, only to have its front paw bitten by the angrily howling wolf.

The pup was half the size of the mutated cat, so it was moving more nimbly. It used its extremely sharp teeth to tear off the most developed muscles on the cat’s chest, and at that moment, the air was sprinkled with droplets of blood.

The middle-aged man was a little chagrined, thinking that it was their mistake that had put the ‘ordinary people’ in danger. He wanted to step forward, but the cat and their wolf were already wrestling together. They would only be shredded into pieces if they stepped in recklessly.

The suppression of the species caused the cat to tremble, and at the same time, it became even more frenzied. Even though its claws were not as sharp as the wolf’s, blood still splattered as it clawed the wolf.

The little wolf had a good aim. It bit the softest parts of the cat’s body every time. Even the mere sight of the fight left Yin Yiliu with a bitter taste in her mouth. She didn’t dare to look at them any longer.

Zhao Qiyang was holding the gun in his hand as if it was a prop. The two animals in front of him were tearing at each other, but he was just a noob gunner. He was afraid of hurting his teammate by mistake if he missed.

In the end, Jin Yang drew the gun from his waist, aimed at the mutated cat’s widened eyes, and fired, leaving a bloody hole in the cat’s head. As the mutated cat jolted and screamed in agony, the little wolf took advantage of the timing to bite its throat and end it all.
