Chapter 35.3 - Wen Renjing Who Came From a Family of Hunters (3/4)

Jin Yang wasn’t very skilled at cooking, but he had good eyesight. Once any part of the meat had turned brown and started dripping oil, he would slice them off and place them in a bowl of seasonings, which looked surprisingly good, and the air was filled with the smell of meat.

After Zhao Sihui finished treating her younger brother’s wound, the swelling on Zhao Qiyang’s pig trotter-like hand gradually reduced as it was wrapped in layers of gauze.

He scratched his nose and muttered, “It’s not that big of a deal. Why did you wrap it up like a rice dumpling?”1 He waved his bandaged palm, sat beside the fire, and snuffled.

“Big Bro Jin, your cooking smells delicious!”

Following the apocalypse, the world had changed drastically. Aside from running for their lives all the time, the only thing that could give a person a sense of happiness was perhaps only when they ate, especially when they were gorging on meat.

The wolf had finished eating the two pieces of raw meat at the time. When it smelled the aroma in the air, it couldn’t stop swallowing its saliva. After a while, it howled and dived into the nearby woods, having decided to catch some prey to eat.

Zhao Qiyang almost swallowed his own tongue while eating, while Jin Yang fed the Yin Yiliu in his arms first. The little rabbit had a small appetite and ate fast. When she was almost full, she stuck out her fluffy belly and patted Jin Yang’s arm, motioning to him that she wanted to go down and walk around to aid in digestion.

Jin Yang believed that taking a walk after a meal was beneficial to a child’s health. He told her not to run too far and kept a close watch at the little fella as it ran through the woods.

Zhao Qiyang wiped away the oil stains on the corners of his mouth with his hand. “Hehe, I haven’t asked you about this before,” he said while eating meat, “but Big Bro Jin, why is your rabbit so smart, smart like it had turned into a fairy? Has it been raised by you all the while?”

Jin Yang made a faint “mhm” sound, thinking that the bunny was precisely a little fairy, so it was no surprise that it was smarter than others.

He rarely showed any expressions on his face other than indifference, so it was surprising for the Zhao siblings.

It seemed that the only thing that could move this man’s heart and soul was a rabbit. His joy, anger, sorrow, and gaze could all be influenced by an animal, which sounded unbelievable.

Zhao Sihui recognized this look. Jin Yang’s expression at that moment was eerily similar to her father’s when he attended her younger brother’s parent-teacher conference and came home to brag about her brother placing in the top ten in his grade once again. For a while, she was at a loss for words.

Fortunately, there was no awkward silence whenever Zhao Qiyang was present. While eating, he broke the silence and continued to ask, “Then will we live in City Z? I thought Big Bro Jin said your sister was studying in City B? Should we go to City B to pick up Lil Sis Jin?”

Jin Yang finally spared Zhao Qiyang a glance and said, “She’s a few years older than you.”

Zhao Qiyang didn’t feel the slightest bit embarrassed. “I’ll have to call her Big Sis Jin, then.”

The Zhao siblings had no other family members left. Although they never said it, besides each other, Jin Yang and Yin Yiliu had become their most important buddies in their lives. The little wolf didn’t count though. The scene of the wolf wanting to bite Zhao Qiyang’s throat was still vivid in memory. Zhao Qiyang liked to hold grudges.

They would follow Jin Yang wherever he went.

In the Zhao siblings’ opinions, family was one’s closest ties after the apocalypse. Jin Yang must have wanted to go to City B to search for his sister.

Unexpectedly, Jin Yang merely shook his head and said, “Let’s settle down in City Z first. I’m not in a hurry to get to City B.” There wasn’t much excitement or longing on his face.

The Zhao siblings looked at each other feeling a little surprised, but they didn’t say anything.

Every family had their own issues, not to mention the super powerful Jin family. Perhaps there was something they didn’t know that caused the Jin siblings to be less close with each other.

Jin Yang wasn’t too worried about his only living family member.

She had been clever since she was a child and had more tricks up her sleeves than anyone else. Rather than worrying about others hurting her, she was more likely to harm others. Moreover, City B was the military and political center of the country, with the strongest defense and military forces.

They also had a few uncles in the military in City B who had close ties with the Jin family. It was much safer to be in City B than anywhere else.

In fact, his desire to find Jin Rumeng wasn’t really strong. These few years, both of them had been deliberately ignoring the past and had seemingly returned to being a pair of loving siblings, but Jin Yang knew in his heart that some things could never be fixed.I swear every Chinese food is translated as dumplings lol. But this one (粽子) looks like this (Err I can’t seem to attach photos at the moment)
