Chapter 36.1 - The Super City (1/2)

Once they left the city’s outskirts, everyone could see the conspicuous City Z Base.

High walls were built outside the massive city gate, and rows of withered plant roots that had been tightly tangled together were cut into sharp thorns, which covered the city walls, as if they had been encased within a huge web of spikes.

The land within a hundred meters of the city had been scorched black, and as soon as they stepped into this place, there was a faint odor of disinfectant that had yet to disperse.

As a mutated animal, when the little wolf smelled this, it wrinkled its nose, sneezed several times, and rubbed its nose with its paws while shaking its head.

This was caused by a kind of drug developed by the people in City Z. They first used drugs and fire to completely eradicate the surrounding mutated plants, and then sprinkled some powder that stimulated the repulsion of animals to ensure the safety of their surroundings.

Yin Yiliu’s nose felt prickly as well. It was so itchy that she shivered and made low whimpering sounds, and her marble-like red eyes were glistening with tears. When Jin Yang noticed this, he opened his jacket and pressed the little fella’s head against his chest.

Before the bunny could react, she had been buried in a sturdy and warm chest. She could feel Jin Yang’s warm breath and the faint pine scent from his body engulfing her, and the irritating smell at the tip of her nose was immediately washed away.

She pressed against Jin Yang’s strong and slightly bulging chest with her soft paw pads and secretly nodded in her heart. Mhm, it feels good to the touch.

Then, a big hand grabbed her mischievous little paw and squeezed the little fella’s meaty paw pad in punishment. The little bunny didn’t dare to feel around anymore and continued to bury herself in his chest.

Aside from Jin Yang and his teammates, there were some people waiting in line outside the city gate. Two men in white coats sat on either side of the gate, typing on computers placed on tables in front of them.

Zhao Qiyang couldn’t help but click his tongue at this spectacular scene. “This City Z Base is too magnificent, and it’s god knows how times larger than that Flying Dragon Base or something. My god, they’re even using computers.”

Flying Dragon Base only had one large generator, which was used to provide electricity and heat for the evolved people who held the power in the base. At night, most of the rooms were so dark that even one’s fingers couldn’t be seen. People with weak eyesight could only exchange points for candles.

Looking at the situation in City Z, the power supply for the entire city should be excellent.

Because of the black pup, a mutated animal among them, the team drew a lot of attention.

Most ordinary people were more fearful in the face of mutated animals. When Yin Yiliu looked out from Jin Yang’s arms, she could see a little boy who was attracted by the handsomeness of the black wolf was staring at it with bright eyes. His mother, on the other hand, was protecting the child in her arms with a vigilant expression, as if the little wolf was a security risk who would pounce and bite her child in the next second.

While evolved people had more aggressive stares, mostly admiring or sizing them up.

Before entering City Z, everyone had to register their place of origin and whether they were evolved people or not. There were not many people in line ahead of them, so it was soon Zhao Qiyang’s turn.

He was the first in their team to be registered. After the man in the white coat recorded his name, age, place of origin, and evolved ability, he was asked to demonstrate his ability.

Zhao Qiyang rolled up his sleeve and stretched his arm. The green hard skin instantly wrapped his entire arm, and his hand turned into short lizard claws with black and pointed nails.

The man in white coat nodded, recorded his data into the computer, and motioned for his assistant, who was standing behind him, to come forward.

Zhao Qiyang was confused. “What is the meaning of this?”

""

“We need to collect blood samples from people entering the city and run simple tests to make sure you don’t carry any mutated bacteria in your body. By the way, what’s happened to your other hand?”

Zhao Qiyang slightly lifted his palm that had been wrapped like a rice dumpling and said, “I was stung by a caterpillar outside the city just now. That should not matter, should it?”

The man in the white coat was expressionless. “Take off the bandage and let me have a look.”

So Zhao Qiyang removed the gauze that had been recently wrapped around his hand, revealing a somewhat swollen and purplish palm.

The assistant behind took a piece of test paper and a silver needle, pricked his intact finger, squeezed two drops of blood onto the paper, and placed it in an instrument.

Jin Yang had been silently observing, and when he saw them take Zhao Qiyang’s blood and place it on an unknown testing machine, he became alarmed and couldn’t help tightening his grip on the little rabbit.1

After about three minutes, Zhao Qiyang’s test results came out. The assistant read the report aloud while the man in the white coat recorded it.

“No abnormalities were found in the blood sample, and the regressive evolved ability is approximately 40%.”

The man in the white coat nodded, and when he looked at Zhao Qiyang again, the smile on his face became much more genuine.

There was only one type of ordinary people in City Z who could get special treatment, and that was scientific researchers. With the strong support of General Li Zhenjiang, the head of the base, City Z had set up a specialized research institute. The drugs used to burn plants outside, as well as the instruments used to assess the abilities of evolved people by detecting the concentration of the mutation in their blood, were invented by these people.

While the other was evolved people.

Based on the abnormal mutation molecules in the blood, the degree of mutation of each evolved person could be distinguished.

Less than 20% were low-level, and 20% to 40% were the relatively uncommon middle-level. As for more than 50%, they couldn’t find more than the number of fingers on a hand in the entire base. These people were undoubtedly exceptionally strong evolved people.

Therefore, when Zhao Qiyang’s 40% evolved level was revealed, the man in the white coat was surprised.

When Zhao Sihui’s test result of 42% was revealed, he was even more surprised.

There were already two middle-level evolved people in this group, and they even had a mutated animal. He couldn’t help but look forward to the level of the remaining man with the noble aura.
