If it was said that the Niu family had the best area in City Z for themselves, Li Zhenjiang’s residence would appear rather monotonous and simple.

In the vast military base, only a big room in the innermost part of the first floor belonged to Li Zhenjiang. When Wu Xianling knocked on the door, General Li was not the only one in the room. Several pairs of eyes turned their gazes towards Jin Yang and the others with undisguised scrutiny.

The man sitting in the main seat was over fifty years old. His face showed traces of aging, but he was unexpectedly elegant. He was wearing military boots and a jacket, with a half-burnt cigarette between his fingers.

Wu Xianling stood straight and said to the man in the main seat, “General, I have brought them.”

Yin Yiliu, who was quietly observing them, was a little surprised. She had thought that Li Zhenjiang would appear stern and grave like a judge, but he, unexpectedly, gave her a good first impression.

Li Zhenjiang flicked away the ash on his fingertips and motioned for Jin Yang to sit beside him.

Jin Yang raised his eyes, scanning the room, before he wheeled his wheelchair inside.

“I’ve heard about Team Morning Sun several times in the past two days. You’re remarkable. This is Mr. Bai Qiguang, commonly known as Old Man Bai. He is the head of our base’s research institute. He had expressed his desire to meet you.”

Bai Qiguang pushed up the frame of his glasses, reached out his hand to shake Jin Yang’s, and then immediately asked Jin Yang for the exact time and location they had encountered the mutated monkey, as well as for information on the surrounding environment.

Apart from saying a few words at the beginning, Li Zhenjiang silently leaned on the sofa and smoked, while observing Jin Yang with his sharp eyes from time to time.

Yin Yiliu seemed to have caught the general’s attention. He crushed his cigarette butt in the ashtray, placed his hands on his knees, and looked at the rabbit in Jin Yang’s arms with interest.

Whoever the eyes of this general fell on, there seemed to be an invisible pressure on the person, as if their secrets were gradually being uncovered. After casting a few glances at him, Yin Yiliu turned around and faced Li Zhenjiang with her furry back.

“I’m telling you, our research institute has dispatched so many people every day, but none of them have ever encountered a level five mutated animal. The mutated monkey you had sent this time is very valuable for our research! Old Li, you have to reward them.”

When Bai Qiguang was almost done with his questions, he patted his thigh exclaiming about his bad luck, Li Zhenjiang looked at Jin Yang again.

“Naturally.”

His gaze was like a torch, and his elegant temperament instantly became a little thorny. “Mr. Jin Yang, you should know why we called you here.”

The cheerful atmosphere tensed up instantly. Zhao Sihui’s clenched fists slightly tightened. These soldiers and academicians in front of them were all famous people from before the apocalypse, and thus their auras were naturally stronger than the average man.

When such a person met with Jin Yang, it was like a fight between immortals, and the ones who would suffer would only be mortals like them.

The squinty smiling fox eyed man on the side suddenly leaned close to her ear and whispered, “Don’t be nervous. Our general is an easy-going man.”

Wu Xianling’s voice acted like a momentary electric shock; stimulating Zhao Sihui’s nerves. She rolled her eyes at Squinty Eyes, and then silently distanced herself from the man beside her.

Yin Yiliu, who was nestled in Jin Yang’s arms, was also very nervous, and her rabbit paw couldn’t help but clutch at the sleeves of the man under her. She was afraid that her Big Golden Thigh would say something cool and arrogant that would slap Li Zhenjiang in the face and enrage the people around the general.

They were in someone else’s territory, so naturally, it was better for them to keep a low profile.

Jin Yang raised his gaze slightly, his thin and long fingers resting on the leather cover of the wheelchair’s armrest, not at all subdued by Li Zhenjiang’s vague coercion.

When the two pairs of eyes met, it was a silent contest. One was aggressive and fierce, while the other was emotionless but not at a disadvantage in the slightest.

After a long stalemate, an admiring smile suddenly appeared on Li Zhenjiang’s face, which became wider and wider. He applauded and said with a smile to Old Man Bai beside him,

“This kid has guts! Not bad!”

He had led soldiers to the battlefield and fought in combat many times with real knives and guns, so it could be said that he was a dangerous man. When he really wanted to put on a stern face and exert authority on someone, only a very few people could face him.

Because of this, Jin Yang who was not the least bit intimidated and still had the courage to fight against him immediately made Li Zhenjiang cherish his talent and even wanted to recruit him to his side.

How could Bai Qiguang not know his old buddy’s usual tricks? He rolled his eyes and said to Jin Yang, “Ignore him. This is how he usually  is.”

The old man was like an ancient tree that had grown for many years. It seemed that because he had been dealing with smaller plants for so long, his temperament was gentle and restrained, which would not make people feel uncomfortable at all.

“But Little Jin, this old man sincerely hopes that you can consider Old Li. Although we can’t give you any privileges, and we don’t have the right to keep capable people like you, when I think of the current situation, I still want to shamelessly ask for you to stay.”

Yin Yiliu was a little moved. Just from the outside rumors, Li Zhenjiang gave the impression of being strict and not amenable to reason.

He had introduced policies that benefited the ordinary people, but no one was happy about it. He was the enemy of 70% of the evolved people in the entire base.

However, after meeting the man in person, she could feel the indelible righteousness in the older generation.

Order had collapsed in the face of the apocalypse and natural disaster. They could have thrown their restraints into the ocean, those who persisted were worthy of admiration.

However, although those were Yin Yiliu’s thoughts, she did not interfere with Jin Yang’s decision. She knew that Jin Yang did not like being controlled by others, and it was unlikely that he would be willing to be a subordinate under someone else.

No matter what choice Jin Yang made, whether to stay or leave, she only needed to support and follow him.
